Wrestling Open MA “Larger Than Life”

Match 1: Rain Conway vs Brando Lee
Rain is out here, to kick off the show in the spot he is definitely MAKING HIS. He wanted someone with a chip on their should because he has “that dog in him”? Sure. Brando Lee just went toe to toe with Bear Bronson. Rain has a lot of unearned confidence and Lee uses the next few minutes to show out against the BIOPro grad. “We want rain to go away” chants the crowd as Rain gets a little bit of momentum. Paul Crockett calls out Rain for seeming to emulate the amateur wrestling styles of someone like Ray Jaz…despite not having that background. Lee puts the kid away with a rolling DVD to a double stomp. Good start!
Match 2: Brett Mettro vs Jay Tunis
Jay and Mettro have been teammates the last few weeks but that has boiled over into tonight’s clash after Tunis left him to die in their last match. Mettro on the attack right away! Mettro stay on the attack but it’s clear the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree and Tunis kicks out the legs of Teal Steel, rolls him up and puts his feet high on the ropes to steal the win. Booooooo!
Match 3: Danny Miles vs “Executive Decision” Quentin Wynters
Miles is here to kill the ambitions of Wynters, who is up here from Reality of Wrestling in Texas to stake his claim at Open. My god, I know we make fun of Danny with that “5 foot 4” chant but it looks VERY EVIDENT right now compared to Quentin. He asks for a test of strength and might need a step stool to make contact. Wynters just overpowering the enforcer of the Stetson Ranch early on. Huge leaping elbow drop for two! Miles takes out the leg of the big man and that takes him down to size for the beating. Quentin endures and hits a snake eyes, Miles is bleeding from the mouth! Miles dodges a big boot and puts Wynters away with a world’s strongest slam! Great win for Miles but this was a good debut from Wynters!
Match 4: Anthony Greene vs Handyman Jake Gray
AG talks about how he was inspired by Bear Bronson’s test of Brando Lee last week. So he’s gonna offer a shot to Gray to prove that he can be a star at Open against one of the best in wrestling. I love this kind of method to raise the profiles for the younger members of the roster. Greene says “I picked you for a reason, good luck, you’re gonna need it”. Greene then spends a few minutes beating on Gray. Gray with the comeback, shotgunning AG to the corner. Sliced bread can’t get it done! Greene hits a delay superplence and a powerbomb……GRAY’S OUT AT ONE?!? “This is MY f***ing home!” shouts Jake! Gray with a VERY close call on an electric chair rollup….but AG hits a superkick and slingshot cross body for the win! Greene calls Jake a tough SOB (but requests he not swear in front of children ever again - despite the crowd chanting “AG F***S. ha). Gray gets the handshake in a short but competitive contest!
Match 5: Ryan Clancy vs Jariel Rivera
Clancy is warming up for Bryce Donovan’s challenge on Monday with a match against Donovan’s ally(?), Jariel Rivera. Bryce gave Rivera ONE directive: HURT RYAN CLANCY. If we compare this warmup to Bryce’s 14-second murder of Erik Chacha on Monday, this is nowhere near as impactful. Clancy is dominant but over a longer period of time and technical skill. But the longer the match goes, the more chance for error and Clancy’s ankle seems to give out mid-match, giving Jariel the edge he needs to do some permanent damage. Clancy gutting his way through the pain. Jariel takes the match into the final minute but the champ hits the KO dropkick to put the lights out and get the W….but he took a LOT of punishment. Clancy unlaces his boot to help get himself back to the locker room.
Match 6: Brooke Havok vs Tiara James
A first time matchup for Tiara and Brooke (who is making her Open debut)! I’m stoked for Tiara to have a different opponent tonight and it even seems like she has some fans in the audience? James tries to big sis Havok with a head pat….Brooke pays that arrogance back in kind. This is a very high energy contest, Havok is right on the attack as the crowd starts to sway for the “Emo Queen”. Tiara with a cheap shot to the eyes while the ref was trying to break them up. TIara stays on her until Brooke finds space with a jawjacker. Knee to the chin and a neck breaker! Flip senton doesn’t quite find its mark which keeps James in the contest. They get to trading forearms and chops, lighting each other up. James gets caught up mocking Brooke by doing squats which allows Havok to recover and escape but Tiara hits a double knee that puts Brooke on her back for the three. Enjoyed the work here, the crowd clearly appreciated the debut of Brooke Havok.
Main Event: DJ Powers vs Georgio Lawrence vs Big Business (Brad Hollister and TJ Crawford)
DJ and Lawrence do NOT like being called “Moist”. But he HAS pinned former champ Brad Hollister. This is his thing now. Hollister is just a “washed up dad”. At the start of things, Brad immediately chases DJ Powers out of the room and to the back! Did this just become a singles match between TJ and Georgio, who ARE legal? TJ is going through Gerogio..DJ back and tries to blindside him but TJ catches it and Bacon isn’t too far behind. We have a tag match again! Bacon is in and more than happy to let Georgio tag out if it means he gets to legally beat up DJ Powers. Powers….doesn’t want that and jumps off the apron, leaving Georgio to the wolves for a while. Powers finally tags in when it suits him better…you know, while Bacon is stuck on the apron. TJ takes a LOT of punishment while Bacon keeps trying to get in there…but the tag finally happens and DJ runs for his life again. A huge spear cuts Lawrence in half as the crowd is chanting “DJ Coward”. Bacon is happy to destroy Georgio in front of Powers though…..and when DJ tries to blindside him? Hollister no sells it and sends him running again. TJ posts DJ on the outside but Georgio drops Crawford from the inside. A Bacon bomb doesn’t put Lawrence away. Georgio lands some of those hard kickboxing strikes but it doesn’t put Brad away. Big Business with a 3D out of nowhere but DJ breaks up the pin! Finally DJ is doing something….like finally being caught by Brad Hollister. DJ slips the jackhammer! Frog splash! Bacon kicks out! TJ and Georgio squaring off again as we hit the 15 minute mark! TJ with the silver bullet could have finished Georgio but Big Business puts a cherry on it with Business is Booming while DJ watches from the outside, refusing to help his partner yet again. Georgio eats the pin as DJ says “you didn’t beat ME though. Really good clash here the crowd was clearly HERE for.
