What do you think about Triple H citing the chaos of The Rock showing up and the longer build to WrestleMania being reasons why some online fans are not excited about the build to WrestleMania?
Honestly? I think it’s a cop out. Sure, The Rock has a ton of influence and let’s just say it totally changed the arcs of Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. That does not explain what they did with Jey Uso, Rhea Ripley, etc. Yes, the longer build is a challenge but he knew that going in. He could have tread water for a few weeks in March and then really heated things up over the last two weeks but that didn’t happen.
With one Smackdown left before Wrestlemania, don’t you think the Rock should have shown up a few times by now?
100 percent. If he wasn’t going to be part of the angle he shouldn’t have been part of the angle, that simple. I also think it’s really telling that Rock has not been back on TV since the Cena heel turn. It seems to me that while he knew WWE was hot last year so he wanted to be a part of it, he saw the opposite with Cena’s heel turn and didn’t want to be a part of the fart in church.
So going back in time to the Elimination chamber and the entire "Cena sold his soul to the Rock". Wouldn't you agree that was the biggest dropped ball of a storyline in a long time? Cena turning heel, is completely over shadowed by the Rock. Wouldn't you agree that his turn would have been much more effective without the Rock element? Because now, it has left everyone wondering what will the Rock do next? How is this storyline going to play out with the Rock, as opposed to it being about Cena? I am less than zero excited when it comes to this storyline. Even if the Rock appears and there's another swerve Sunday, me as fan will look at this last 6 weeks as a total waste of my time.
If Rock wasn’t going to be a major part of the angle he shouldn’t have had anything to do with the Cena turn. You make a great point. His involvement has only confused things.
So, how did you feel on the closing segment of Smackdown last night? I thought it was flat as hell, and did nothing (for me) to put any juice onto an already "meh" program. And not for nothing, but are we getting a Vince special here, where the champ stands tall, so he's losing tomorrow?
When I saw they gave the segment more than 15 minutes, I hoped that they had something good planned. Given how dull the build for this has been to me, they needed it. As it turned out, man, it was bad. Cena is just so, so bad as a heel. I would think that a guy with decades in the business would have learned how to be a good heel but nope, he didn’t. And not for nothing, I laugh every time I see John “I hate you people and don’t want you to buy my merch” come out with new merch for the people to buy. To me, it’s a fitting example of how backward this program has been.
If Cody loses to Cena, will it kill his character?
Will it? I can’t say. But could it? For sure. The people at Smackdown booed his every word early on. Why? I think it’s because he has looked like a putz for most of this story. Cena turned on him and beat him down with his dad’s watch and Cody didn’t even put hands on him until Cena tried to sneak attack him. Ugh. They need to put Cody over tonight and move on from this mess immediately.
