Dragon Gate USA/Pro Wrestling Revolution - The Gate of Revolution
4/18/25 – Las Vegas, NV
Pre-Show Match: Reese Maddox vs. Deigo Azteca vs. Kid Lynx
Azteca and Lynx treat Maddox like he doesn’t belong in this ring with them. He does look like a total weenie, being the odd man out on wearing sweet ring gear. Solid little lucha triple threat to kick things off. The crowd looks light (unsurprising considering what other show is happening RIGHT NOW), but the people there are keeping things energetic. I’m not 100% sure they know they are on the air, as there’s no commentary right now and someone is calling for a producer in the live stream mic. Maddox starches Lynx with a running knee, but Azteca grabs the kid and folds him up with a bomb and locks the legs up for the three count.
Yeah, this was clearly a teaser match and we’re on air… waiting for the show to go on the air?
Match 1: The Border Patrol (Dave Dutra & Colt Stevens) vs. Vary Morales & Ray Horus
Border Patrol sucks and prove they suck with a blindside hot shot to Morales, taking the advantage right away. Horus watches on while Vary just eats a lonnnnng beating. Morales with a dodge and lands a shotgun dropkick that stuns Dutra. Vary makes the tag finally! Triangle springboard arm drag to Colt! Border Patrol runs for cover but Vary flies out of the sky to drop them! Morales caught up in the numbers game again. Horus breaks up a pin after an axe kick/elbow drop combo! Horus sent flying into the chairs and Morales eats a Border Wall bomb for the three. Crowd hates this.
Match 2: Willie Mack & Mike Sydal vs. La Estrella & Viento vs. Oni el Bendito & El Cucuy
“If GWAR were Luchas” → That was my first thought when I saw Bendito & Cucuy. Willie Mack ain’t afraid of the Boogeyman and gets right there with El Cucuy… and turns it into a dance party. He’s gyrating and doing the worm and Cucuy ain’t having that. Estrella & Sydal represent the other side of the size spectrum and speed things up until Bendito pops in to murder people. Viento stays ahead of the monster with fast flips and counters. Cucuy stops that with a simple knee that takes Viento out of the air. Mack staggers Bendito with hard hands to the head. Flying leg lariat sends El Big Red Machine rolling for cover. Mack baited over the rope and Estrella torpedoes into Mack and Cucuy and about 4 rows of chairs! Sydal trying for the roll-up over and over till Viento cuts that off. Cucuy cleans house… and cannonballs to the floor! Estrella almost cradles Bendito for the three! Bendito with a flapjack, superkick, and a slingshot Jackhammer destroys Estrella for the emphatic three. Wild.
Match 3: Hyan & Karisma vs. Wing*Gori (Saya Iida & Hanan)
The Goddess of Stardom champions have a tough test tonight against Hyan and Karisma, giving up some size to their opponents. Karisma eats some tender offense, a double bulldog plants her hard into the mat. Iida runs interference while Hanan tries to break Karisma’s back. Hyan finally gets the tag and lights up Hanan with stiff chops. Back suplex for two. Iida gets in but runs into a huge boot. Hyan slams Karisma into Iida! Hanan with the blindside gets Iida back to her feet to trade chops with Hyan! Awesome sequence here as they double clothesline to a standstill. Karisma dukes it out with Hanan, landing harder shots, hitting an axe kick and curb stomp for two. Karisma whiffs a moonsault, Hyan sent flying. Wing*Gori with a double takedown and Hanan hits a bridging fallaway slam on Karisma for the win! This was a blast.
Match 4: Ultimo Dragon & Dragon Kid vs. Ho Ho Lun & Susumu Yokosuka
What a cool match this is! Susumu draws the ire of the crowd early by mocking Dragon Kid’s height and stomping his hand. Dragon Kid getting double-teamed, his eyes raked on the top rope, his head stomped, all while Ultimo Dragon is stuck on the apron and effectively neutralized. Ho Ho gets stunned, Dragon thinks better of a comeback and gets Ultimo right in there! The legend kicking his way to victory. Dragon screw to Susumu! Twisting into a reverse figure four! Dragon Kid wraps up Ho Ho Lun to keep the interference at bay! Ultimo is working over Ho Ho Lun while Dragon Kid launches himself into the ring with a hurricanrana and drops Susumu and locks him up for the pin! Ultimo seems annoyed at the sudden interjection and win, but they hug it out.
Dragon Kid brings out Matt Sydal! The Dragon Gate OG just puts over everyone in this match as they celebrate the Rebirth of Dragon Gate USA! Great moment of respect all around as the crowd cheers all five men.
Match 5: Lucha Solos (Arkangel Divino & Ultimo Maldito)(c) vs. The Panther Brothers (for the Pro Wrestling Revolution Tag Team Championship)
These two brotherly tandems go right at it and the fight spills to the outside. The Lucha Solos are larger men and definitely try to exploit that advantage on the Panthers. Very back-and-forth affair as both these teams have ridiculous chemistry. This is energy from bell to bell, the crowd has to get the f*** out of the way as the brothers take to the air. Divino eats an iconoclasm as a Panther hits a triangle 450 for a VERY close two! Divino with a Rana to Maldito and cannonballs his brother into the Panthers! Wild finish with a doomsday destroyer and another dive out of the ring gives the Lucha Solos a successful title defense after a BONKERS clash. This one is worth watching back.
Match 6: Rich Swann vs. YAMATO
YAMATO is Dragon Gate’s most prolific champion, but he doesn’t seem like he's down with Swann’s friendly demeanor and swagger. YAMATO is clearly frustrated as Swann dances and flips and flies and sends him to the floor to regroup. YAMATO with some stiff punches to the head lets Swann know he’s in a fight as the match switches gears. YAMATO wraps up the legs and tries to break Swann’s will… or at least his knee. Swann with a rolling clothesline sends YAMATO back to the floor and he flies off the apron! High-angle frogsplash for two! YAMATO pops up and rocks him with head kicks and a brainbuster for another close fall. Crowd firing up for this one. YAMATO disrespecting Rich with these light head kicks. Swann drops him and hits a 450 splash! YAMATO out again! Trading headbutts on the ground. Hard shots back and forth! Swann with a snap head scissors… YAMATO rebounds with a missile dropkick! Superplex! Swann pops up and hits his own suplex! Both are winded as the crowd is clapping hard for these warriors. YAMATO catches Swann with a pair of Ragnarok sit-out tombstones that put the lights out on Rich Swann and close out this fantastic matchup.
Main Event: Kzy, Ben-K & Hyo vs. Shun Skywalker, Kota Minoura & ISHIN
Man, this crowd haaaaaaaaates Skywalker, Kota & ISHIN, known as the Z-Brats. This is alllllll crowd work for the opening minutes. The Brats are just taking shortcut after shortcut and this quickly spills all over the arena. We got fans helping out here?!? We are very much in “referee’s discretion” territory as Skywalker guts Kzy with a chair. Hyo getting isolated by the Z-Brats and used as a billboard for their branding. Hyo is both an opponent and maybe a potential recruit. Z-Brats are keeping him alone in this ring. Hyo keeps kicking out as the crowd rallies behind him! Double stomp to Skywalker! Tag to Ben-K! Double spear to ISHIN and Kota! Forearms back and forth with Kzy and Shun! This rules, the crowd is on their feet! Minoura is left alone with the Dragon Gate team! Hyo with a top rope senton but that’s not enough! Shun back in with a series of suplexes! So many close calls and saves! Everyone is down and this crowd is chanting for Dragon Gate. HOT DAMN. ISHIN is left alone and Ben-K spears him solidly for the three! Overall, good show, but these last three matches could have been a show by themselves. They were realllllly good. WOW.
