Some updates on the lawsuit filed before the U.S. District Court District of Maryland (Baltimore) against WWE, TKO, Vince McMahon and Linda McMahon in regard to alleged abuse of underage ring boys in the 1980s and 1990s.
On 12/2 WWE and TKO each filed a motion requesting a stay (pause) in the lawsuit until The Supreme Court of Maryland makes a ruling on the 2023 Child Victims Act, which would remove the statue of limitations for civil lawsuits involving the sexual abuse of a child. The Court is slated to make that ruling by August 2025. If the Court agrees, then the case could move forward. If it rules the statue of limitations stand, then the lawsuit against WWE, etc. would likely be ruled as time-barred, meaning it was brought too late to be heard before the court. The Court agreed to stay the case on 12/4, so it won't move forward until The Supreme Court decision comes in.
Linda McMahon filed a brief in support of the stay.
Vince McMahon has not yet responded to the lawsuit.
The lawsuit was brought by five former ring boys who worked for the company while underage in the 1980s and 1990s, alleging the company and the McMahon failed to protect them from being abused by the late Mel Phillips, who worked for the company as a ring announcer and oversaw the ring crew.
