Airing on TrillerTV on 10/9/2024 but held on 9/29/24, House of Glory held "Believe in The Glory" in their home venue of the NYC Arena. They hosted a lot of debuts and all of them looked like they came to impress. A lot of longer matches and not always for the best.
JD from NY and HoG Commissioner Jason Solomon on commentary with heel manager Dr. Hillary P. Wisdom and Sam Leterna sitting in at different times. Solid group.
They open with Darren Richardson winning a strong Suicidal Six Way match to determine a top contender for the Cruiserweight title, over "Sweet Cheeks" Joey Silver, J. Boujji, Jay Armani of the Cold Blooded Killers, Jay Lyon of The Mane Event and the legendary Amazing Red, HoG co-founder and the trainer of most of the guys in this match in some way. This was different than the many high spot heavy multi person match. There was a heavy emphasis on Armani leading the other heels--Richardson and Boujji--against Red, trying to take him out of the match. Lyon and Silver come to Red's aid so it's not a six man tag but it had that kind of feel. Big comeback for Red, Lyon and Silver but Richardson pulls Silver off a pin on Armani for a roll up and surprise win. Very good opener.
In the first title match of the night, The Cold Blooded Killers team of Raheem Royal and the "Ghetto Samurai" Nolo Kitano beat back the challenge of the debuting Miracle Generation (Dustin Waller, Kylon King), frequent stars in Beyond Wrestling, making their HoG debut. Very good tag match but they did that TERRIBLE spot where the heel pulls the ref out to break up a count. How is that not a disqualification??? The CBK capitalize on Armani distracting the referee (Jay was working hard this first quarter of the show, filling in for CBK leader, Charles Mason, who was said to be arrested lol), allowing Kitano to blow a mist in Waller's eyes, setting him up for their double stomp double team finish (very impressive move).
Gringo Loco held off the debuting Fuego del Sol, retaining the Cruiserweight title in a very good match. Both guys were working as the "good guy" here so no shenanigans. Frankly, I thought this would be a good time for Fuego to work on some heel mannerisms but maybe down the road. Loco won, countering whatever Fuego wanted to do off the top with an inverted Samoan Drop. Amazing. The live crowd really enjoyed this one and chanted for Fuego to return.
With a World title main event on the horizon in TNA, Joe Hendry made his debut, beating "The Bad Boy" Joey Janela in a marquee match. I'm far from a Janela fan but this was pretty good. They worked a deliberate pace and Janela didn't try to do too much or some extra, unnecessary table spot or anything like that. Just good, solid work from both guys and it worked. Hendry wins with the Standing Ovation slam. Later he cuts a great promo with Laterna, putting over House of Glory.
Crown Jewel champion "The Main One" Zilla Fatu defeated "The Dark Star" Idris Jackson (with Dr. Hillary P. Wisdom), keeping the CJ title. A solid bout between two promising rookies that needed a more experienced ring general, though credit to Jackson for doing well in the role. This went long considering the lack of experience of both men but they put forth a great effort as two young, strong guys having a fight. After the ref took a rough bump, Jackson was able to counter Fatu's flying Spike attack with an uppercut with brass knuckles or some kind of foreign object. That looked good. It's not enough but before he can do anything else, and with the ref still groggy, former CJ champion "La Sombra" Carlos Ramirez hops the railing and bashes Jackson on the head from behind with a folding chair. I did not like that but it was a crunching blow. Jackson had taken credit for costing Ramirez the title and this was a receipt. Samoan Spike. And still Crown Jewel champion, Zilla Fatu.
Making her HoG debut, Lena Kross challenged "The Megasus" Megan Bayne for the House of Glory Women's title. A distaff version of a Hoss Fight with both women being 6 feet tall (Bayne is billed at 5'11 but same thing) and throwing big shots and slams. A tad long but one of the better Women's title matches in HoG in months. Bayne retains with a stiff looking Tombstone piledriver.
HoG champion Mike Santana had issued an Open Challenge for a title match on this show and it was answered by former Ring of Honor World champion and 6 time TNA X Division champion Jay Lethal of AEW. This started as a "friendly" but got intense after some action on the floor led to Santana grabbing at his knee and the referee possibly stopping the match. Lethal was very sympathetic and it seemed to anger Santana, who slapped the hell out of Lethal and the friendly match turned into a great fight. Santana hits his Spin the Block spinning lariat but the pin is broken up when the Cold Blooded Killers pulled the ref from the ring. THIS TIME the ref stops the match, I guess giving us a No Contest.
Commissioner Solomon comes out and at the insistence of Lethal makes an impromptu tag title match with Lethal and Santana facing Royal and Kitano, with Armani ringside (bruh was the heel MVP of the show). The heels beat down Santana, focusing on the compromised knee. He fires up a comeback, goes for a tag...and Lethal drops to the floor and walks out. WHAT??? He walks back, gets in the ring and smashes Santana with a title belt, getting CBK disqualified. Lethal says something on the house mic that sounds like he was doing dirty work for Mason but the sound didn't come across well on tv.
Red, Lyon, Miracle Generation, Fuego and other faces made the save and they close with a well received promo from Santana but again, it didn't come across well on tv. It did sound like he mentioned his title defense against Masato Tanaka on Oct 18.
Thoroughly enjoyable show from top to bottom No decisive winner for the main event but a big angle at the end.
The Real Uncle Dave grade: A (93 out of 100)
