WWE NXT will present No Mercy this Sunday on Peacock and the WWE Network from Denver, Colorado. Here is our take on what will happen on Saturday.
Ethan Page vs. Joe Hendry for the NXT Men’s Championship with Guest Referee Trick Williams
Dave: They wouldn't put the Title on Hendry would they? WOULD THEY? I am guessing no but they also have the debut on CW coming up in a month and it sure would build curiosity for the product if they did it. I could almost talk myself into it but I think Page has done such a great job that I can't get all the way there. Page retains.
Mike: What would be the most wacky thing they can do? Put the title on a TNA star. While I would normally argue against this, I say what the hell. Do the change and then having Page win the belt back at the next TNA tapings. It gives everyone a bit of a shock, sort of a "HOLY CRAP HE DID IT" and elevated Joie, who is obviously onto something special right now and then Page can get the belt back and mock to everyone he is still champ. Don't do the Dusty finish thing, go all the way with Joe and let everyone believe!
Richard: While most people are wondering what Trick Williams will do, there is another person who is not wrestling in this match who you have to worry about. Pete Dunne is feuding with Trick and he has said that Trick won’t make it to their match on Tuesday. I am one who does not believe in Joe Hendry but he is very over with the fans and he has done something that only a small number of people have done. He has a ‘pinfall’ over Ethan Page in a non-match situation. I don’t think this is it for Joe and Page and I feel that there is going to be some sort of chicanery in this match to set up a final match at Halloween Havoc where Hendry wins the title. Dunne attacks Hendry while Trick is busy trying to stop Page from cheating and then Page gets the three count. Then we can have Ava make the announcement of the rematch for Hershey.
Roxanne Perez vs. Jaida Parker for the NXT Women’s Championship
Dave: I see Parker putting in a solid performance and Perez retains.
Mike: This will be about making Jaida look strong in the hope spots and getting some close near falls, but Perez will pull something underhanded to retain.
Richard: I thought the first part of the Jaida Parker interview on Tuesday was a great way to build her character, but they kind of went away from the OTM gimmick to explain her past. Parker is a decent wrestler but I don’t think she is at the point where she should be on top of the women’s division at this time. Perez has been a decent champion but this title reign really doesn’t do anything for me. I don’t know who there is on the current NXT roster who should beat her for the title
Oba Femi vs. Tony D’Angelo for the NXT Men’s North American Championship
Dave: There is something to Femi that I think needs to be fleshed out. I think winning a match against a bigger guy like D'Angelo is the next step in seeing what that is.
Mike: This should be about giving Femi more reps. Perhaps we get some big Superman spots where he wipes out the entire family to show how insanely monstrous he is, but then there's a DQ? Not sure, but I don't see them going with D'Angelo winning the title, at least not yet.
Richard: The best thing about this match when it happens is that they won’t be doing any promos. The build for this match has been . . . I’m not really sure. Tony would walk and interrupt Oba Femi’s walking in the back segments and then Oba did the same to Tony and then showed up at RESTAURANT. It is like they have one wrestler doing Godfather and the other doing Godfather 3 and nothing putting them together. Is Femi a heel or not? You can’t tell because of the PC crowd. Tony is a good wrestler and that should mean this will be a decent match. Femi retains.
Kelani Jordan vs. Wendy Choo for the NXT Women's North American Championship
Dave: I don't see a Title change happening here. Jordan is still growing and Choo isn't the one I would have beat her for the Title.
Mike: I like Wendy Choo a TON but to me, this is Kelani's time and she's the one they will be building around. Unless there's some Insidious interferece from across the void from Hades, Jordan retains,
Richard: Wendy Choo is a character who I thought had a lot of potential and then fell off a cliff. The Chucky/Annabelle/Insert Random Evil Demon Doll character transformation has given her some life, but I don’t think she is back to where she was at her peak. Kelani has done fine as champion, but I don’t feel that she has grown into being champion. Will Wendy bring any other ‘friends’ with her to help her against Jordan? Choo has taken advantage of Jordan the last few times they have been face to face, but I don’t think it is time to take the title from Jordan, but if she does not have a standout performance, it might be time to reconsider.
Chase University (Ridge Holland and Andre Chase) vs. Axiom and Nathan Frazer for the NXT Tag Team Championship
Dave: I am partial to my NXT UK guys so if it's me, I would put the Title on them unless the plan is for them to have issues here which leads to a singles program between them.
Mike: Too soon for a title change here. Champs retain.
Richard: Are they going to give the titles back to Axiom and Frazer after they just lost them to Chase U? If Axiom and Frazer do not win this match, is it because one turns on the other or is the loss going to break up the team? I feel that Chase U has run its course but maybe the win can extend this until someone finally graduates. Each combination that Chase U has thrown at Frazer and Axiom have worked well together and I think this will be a good match. Axiom and Frazer have had some issues in prior matches and I think that costs them on Sunday night.
Wes Lee vs. Zachary Wentz
Dave: This should be a war, not a match, given what has gone down between them. Since Lee has been the tool here, I will go with Wentz scoring the win.
Mike: Interesting twist here with Zach having won the X-Division title at Emergence. I think that should mean Wentz wins, but Lee lays him out after and this continues on TNA.
Richard: I thought they did a decent job to build Wentz back up to be on a level with Lee, but Lee did everything possible to make us know that Wentz is not as good as him. This is the payoff for Lee’s betrayal after they lost the tag title match. This should be a brawl between these two men where Wentz tries to prove that he is as good as Lee. Lee will win this match and Wentz can go back to being a wrestler again, but Wentz will come close a few times.
