WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN SATURDAY: THE WWE KING & QUEEN OF THE RING TIP SHEET

By Dave Scherer, Mike Johnson & Richard Trionfo on 2024-05-24 19:50:00

WWE will present King and Queen of the Ring this Saturday 5/25 on Peacock and the WWE Network from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.  Here is our take on what will happen on Saturday.

Cody Rhodes versus Logan Paul for the Undisputed WWE Championship.

Dave: Once they did the stip where Paul's Title was not on the line, it took the drama out of it for me (in a good way).  Cody needs to retain and Saudi Arabia gets a megastar taking him on.  Works for me.

Mike: No way there is a title change here, but I expect there will be a hell of a match here.  The entire finish looks to be built around the brass knuckles based on Smackdown.

Richard:  Imagine a world where Logan Paul is the most important champion in WWE (sorry for giving you that image).  Logan is a great athlete, but unlike Cody Rhodes, when Logan Paul speaks, I don't want to listen to the message.   Is there something in the contract that will be revealed on Smackdown or on Saturday because for some illogical reason, Cody signed it without reviewing the changes that Logan and LITIGATOR made.  This could be the toughest match of Logan's WWE career and I don't see Cody losing the title at this point.

Becky Lynch versus Liv Morgan for the Women's World Championship.

Dave: I talked myself into Liv winning on No Name with Mike.  Becky made a point to say that Liv has never beaten her.  Becky was a stop gap champion, who may not have signed a new deal yet.  Liv is the one who put Rhea out.  I say they flip the belt.  The Saudi crowd gets a Title change and Rhea gets to return against the woman who took her out.

Mike: I don't have any issue with Dave's scenario.  It feels like Liv's on the cusp of a title win for some time.

Richard:  The person who injured the best champion in WWE and the person who took advantage of the injury to win the title face off.  Liv has been very smart in the way that she doesn't come out to help Becky when she is in peril, but will that defiance lead to the Wrath of Becky on Saturday?  Liv needed the change in character, but it won't be enough to beat Becky.

Lyra Valkyria versus Nia Jax for Queen of the Ring.

Dave: This will be Lyra vs. Goliath.  I would have picked Lyra had HHH not announced that the winner gets a Title match at SummerSlam so now I will go with Lyra delivering a great performance but then loses to the bigger Nia (who has been doing great work by the way). It's way too soon to put her in a Title match.

Mike: My gut is Nia winning, since they are already teasing Bayley vs. Nia for Summerslam.  There will be another time for Lyra.

Richard:  Some might say Lyra's victory over Iyo was an upset, but the decline of Damage CTRL appears to be gaining speed.  Nia used deception to beat Jade Cargill in the second round, but will she be able to beat her second current tag champion in a row?  I think Lyra is the underdog going into the match on Saturday and I think the Cinderella run ends regardless of her opponent.  She will put up a valiant fight on Saturday but she will not get the crown.

Gunther versus Randy Orton for King of the Ring.

Dave: WWE hasn't brought in older legends so they get a current legend in Orton.  Gunther has to win here.  The Ring General becomes The King General.

Mike: I REALLY love the idea of Orton vs. Cody at Wrestlemania.  I am going with Randy here.

Richard:  I think the quality of this match has been sacrificed for the story that we could have gotten if Main Yeet had won on Monday night.  Since this is being written before Smackdown airs, we don't know if it will be Randy or Tama who faces Gunther, but Jey had a story with both men while Gunther doesn't.  Gunther/Orton seems like the likely match since that is what the Saudis would probably prefer to see due to Orton's history.  If Tama faces Gunther, I hope we don't get the usual House of Bloodline distractiference.  Gunther wins and Ludwig Kaiser gets to realize his dream of being Bib Fortuna.

Sami Zayn versus Chad Gable versus Bronson Reed for the Intercontinental Championship.

Dave: I never want to see the champ lose in a three way match.  I definitely don't see it happening here, for obvious reasons.

Mike: I don't see Sami losing here.

Richard: While Chad and Bronson are both facing Sami on Saturday, the have different motivations for the match.  Chad thinks he should have been the one to beat Gunther at Wrestlemania while Bronson just wants to win the title and he doesn't care how or why he gets it.  This should be a good match and I think could steal the show.  The crowd will definitely be behind Sami for this match and that should motivate him.  I don't see Sami losing in Saudi Arabia, but I can see him come close to losing on a few occasions.  Sami hits Helluva kicks on both opponents and he chooses to pin Chad to send the message to him.
