TONY KHAN ATTACKED, SHAD KHAN APPEARS: AEW DYNAMITE REPORT

By Cory Strode on 2024-04-24 22:13:00

It is Wednesday and AEW Dynamite is coming to us from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, FL. Our commentary team is Excalibur, Taz, and Tony Schiavone.

This week, the Bucks show up in a Ford with Kazuchika Okada and Jack Perry. Security tries to keep Perry out, but the Bucks say he is with them.

Orange Cassidy’s music hits and we see him tumble out of the entryway with a ripped shirt and Trent Beretta follows and keeps up the attack. Trent grabs a mic and tells Chuck it’s time and he needs to come to the ring. When Chuck comes out of the crowd, Trent says he is sorry, sorry he didn’t do it years ago. He says they brought in Cassidy to be their mascot and they became his lackeys. He then tells Chuck that Cassidy doesn’t deserve his friendship. Trent says he loves him and for Chuck to do the right thing and give the people what they want.

Chuck then attacks Trent and knocks him out of the ring. He says he’s not cleared for a match in the ring, and instead he wants to fight him in the parking lot. Trent leaves and Chuck stays with Cassidy.

In the back, Jon Moxley cuts a promo, where he says that Powerhouse Hobbs is a truck of a man. He says all that needs to happen if for him to make one mistake and he’ll lose the IWGP title. He says he knows what it takes to stay at the top, and tonight will be a walk through hell and no place he’d rather be.

Swerve Strickland (AEW World Champion) w/Prince Nana vs Kyle Fletcher  w/Don Callis in a eliminator match

Don joins commentary.

They start with waistlocks and arms bars. Fletcher gets a snap mare and Swerve gets a switch into an arm bar on the mat. Kyle gets to the ropes for the break.  They lock up and go into the ropes before going to mat work and trade holds and roll ups for two. Kyle gets a strike and whips Swerve to the corner, and Swerve is able to get out of the corner, gets a leaping kick and a sling blade.

Kyle is able to kick Swerve off the apron and to the floor and then joins him there. Swerve gets a back body drop on Kyle after Nana distracts Kyle. Swerve hits a boot to Kyle from the apron as we go to picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, Kyle gets in a series of kicks, but Swerve gets a back breaker and Swerve then works him over on the mat and goes for the arm breaker, but Kyle rolls into it to escape. Kyle gets a super kick and a scoop slam. Both men are down and we see the Bucks are going to Tony Khan’s office on an inset screen. Swerve and Kyle struggle on the apron and Swerve gets a neck breaker.

Swerve goers to the top and hiatus a stomp onto Kyle on the apron. Swerve acts as if his ankle is hurt. They both get in the ring and Kyle grabs a kick from Swerve and gets an ankle lock. Kyle then turns it into a heel hook and Swerve crawls to the rope for the break. Kyle starts a series of kicks to Swerve’s chest. Swerve is able to get up and then trade kicks. Swerve gets a hip toss and tries for a brain buster, but his ankle gives way. Swerve escapes with an upkick, a flat liner and a brain buster for two.

Swerve goes for a pile driver, but Kyle reverses, they reverse back and forth. Kyle is able to get the upper hand and covers for two. Don calls for Number 4. Kyle goes under the ring and then stops. Instead, Kyle gets a running kick and takes Swerve to the top. Swerve fights his way free, and hits the stomp with Kyle on the second rope for two. Swerve gets a running kick to the back of Kyle’s head for the pin and the win.

They each duck under each other’s lockup attempt, but Jay attacks Mina after her dodge and Mina hits a pair of drop kicks on Jay. MIna starts working over Jay’s knee. MIne then hits an insigiri from the top for two. Mine then escapes a slam and turns it into a Russian Leg sweep and goes back to work on the knee.

Mina grabs a figure four and Jay quickly gets to the ropes for the break. Jay is able to get a rake to the eyes and then a neck snap on the second rope for a two count as we go to picture in picture.

May grabs a bottle of champagne and glasses to celebrate, but Jay attacks them from behind and puts the Queenslayer on Mina. Toni Storm runs to the ring for the save and Jay bails from the ring. Serena Deeb comes from the back and sits down next to the women’s title belt and says the next time she touches it, it will be because she has won it.

In the ring, Stokely Hathaway and Kris Standlander are in the ring to celebrate Willow Nightingale winning the TBS championship. The ring has balloons at the turnbuckles and there is someone rapping to her entrance music.

Stokely says at first he didn’t like Willow but look at her now. Willow talks about how she kept coming to Daily’s Place to catch a break, but now she’s the face of TBS. This brings out Mercedes Mone and the commentary team reminds us that Money stole the spotlight after Willow won the title at Dynasty.

Willow says this is the 4th time she has interrupted her so if she has something to say, she needs to say it. Mone says she came out to congratulate her and in 32 days SHE will be the TBS champion. Mone and the others argue about who attacked Mone last week. Willow then asks if Mone thinks she injured her on purpose.

Mone then lays into Willow and says she does not want to know what she thinks. Willow says that she felt horrible that Mone was hurt and she is still wondering if she can beat Mone at 100%. And that’s why she wants to show Mone she can beat her at Double or Nothing. They go face to face and the Money slaps Willow after Statlander grabs Mone.  They are separated and Mone goes to the back.

In the back, Alex Marvez asks Jack Perry if he’s reinstated in AEW and everyone ignores him until Matt says Tony Khan has agreed to meet with Jack Perry in the ring tonight.

So….I guess Tony has finally dropped the last shred fo hsi “I won’t be a character on TV” promise.

Lots of near falls and finishing moves. Ospreay starts for the Tiger Driver 91, but because he’d swore never to use it, he stops. Ospreay hits the hidden blade on Komander for the pin.

Winner: Will Ospreay

Roderick Strong and the Undisputed Kingdom come to the ring. Strong holds the belt up in front of Ospreay and they have words.

When we get back from commercial, Chris Jericho comes to the ring with a new entrance where he is called The Learning Tree. We are told that Hook is not cleared to travel after the baseball bat strike from Jericho at Dynasty. We also see that Jericho has put a sticker on the FTW belt that says “The Learning Tree, Chris Jericho”

Jericho is getting Don Callis level boos. Jericho says that FTW now means For The World because he won the title for all of the fans. He says Terry Funk told him to teach the next generation. He then thanks Hook and says he was a great champion. He says Hook;s flaw is that he needs to get rid of the dead weight around him and to listen to his advice. Jericho then talks about how he has helped so many people become bigger stars because of their time with him.

Big Bill comes out. He says he has been listening to Jericho and has one thing to say:  He needs Jericho’s guidance. He puts Jericho over and says he is the best fit for the Learning Tree.

Jericho says he’s had his eye on Bill for years and will keep his eye on him to see if what he says is true.

Renee is with Will Ospreay and Don Callis and Kyle Fletcher are with him and Callis tells him he should have used the Tiger Driver. Ospreay says he won’t use it, and Kyle says it shouldn’t matter because he won. Callus shuts him down and says he has to go manage Hobbs.

Winner and still IWGP Champion: Jon Moxley

Through commentary, Tony and Taz are all over Callis for not seeming to care about Hobbs’s injury or to help him.

Konosuke Takeshita shows up on the ramp and calls Mox out.

In the back, Renee is with Katsuyori Shibata. Shibata says he will face Jericho for the FTW championship next week.

Tony Schiavone is the ring and he calls out Jack Perry. The crowd chants “Oh, cry me a river.”

Perry says he’s had some of the best nights of his life in Jacksonville but tonight there is business to handle. He calls out Tony Khan. Tony comes to the ring and Parry says that AEW has changed the world. He says he has had his ups and down with Tony. Perry the only thing he has ever wanted is what’s best for AEW.  He asks Tony to shake his hand and reinstate him.

Tony shakes his hand and they hug. Perry then punches Khan in the stomach. The Bucks and Okada come to the rign to stop him from doing anything else and they check on Khan. The Bucks then hit an EVP driver on Khan and leave him laying. Referees and the doctor hit the ring as The Elite faces the crowd.

The Elite go to the back and Nich says “This is how we change ther world.”

The locker room empties as everyone hits the ring to check on Tony, inducing Tony’s father Shad Khan and we are out of time.
