Shane "Hurricane" Helms took to Twitter to respond to the Buff Bagwell episode of Dark Side of the Ring, taking umbrage with the fact that it was presented that fight he and Bagwell had was the reason Bagwell was quickly released by WWE in 2001 after they acquired World Championship Wrestling.
In the episode, it was presented as Bagwell confronted Helms during a WWE training session when the two had words with Helms allegedly calling Bagwell a drug addict. Bagwell's version was that he slapped Helms and turned his back to leave. Helms them allegedly smashed him with a frozen bottle of water, requiring Bagwell to later perform with 24 staples in his head during his Monday Night Raw debut.
Bagwell was released after that lone Raw appearance, which was a legendarily dreadful main event match againt Booker T that the audience live rejected. The bout's poor response was so massive that it lead to WWE dropping their entire WCW return plan and instead pivoted to adding ECW to the Alliance to feud with WWE as they headed into the Invasion 2001 PPV.
Bagwell was let go within a week of the match taking place. He blamed the release on the fact that he was blamed for striking Helms first during their confrontation.
In regard to Bagwell's claims on Dark Side, Helms responded to fan comments and questions:
I didn’t either. Buff is a lying POS. Always has been. There were witnesses there and NONE agree with Buff. https://t.co/H5psVtW4ut

He used to blame Jim Ross too. Blamed everyone except the man in the mirror. Nothing wrong with failing at something, but accountability is key. Everyone associated with that episode of Dork Side can suck ass. https://t.co/yAdaDUh221

When a fan noted that Bagwell seemed like a changed man after working with Diamond Dallas Page, Helms responded:
He literally just went on a show and told a bunch of lies. No more second chances from me.
