LONGTIME AEW VP EXITING AT WORLDS END PPV AFTER AMAZING JOB OFFER

By Mike Johnson on 2023-12-23 16:00:00

A major piece of the behind the scenes of AEW will be exiting after the Worlds End.

Rafael Morfi, who has held the position of Vice President of Live Events/Touring since the formation of AEW and was responsible for setting up the live event tours, booking buildings, local marketing and other logistical responsibilities when it came to the actually booking and running of the live event aspect of AEW is departing the company.

We are told Morfi informed AEW during their recent Montreal events that he would be finishing up with the company as of the Worlds End PPV on 12/30 in Long Island, NY as he has accepted a senior executive position with the Barclays Center in New York City (where Morfi resides with his family) and will be splitting his duties between booking sports and entertainment events at the arena as well as working for the Brooklyn Nets' owners.   One of the reasons for the move was the ability for Morfi to remain closer to family in NYC and not be on the road constantly.  It was basically seen as such an amazing offer, there was no way he could pass on the opportunity.  Internally, he will be missed and was well liked and respected.

Prior to AEW, Morfi worked with TNA and House of Hardcore via his own company, Signature Move Productions.  He spent many years working for WWE in the live events side of the company as well as both the New York Cosmos soccer team and the New York Mets organization before forming his own company in 2016.

Morfi's sports connections led to him setting the stage for AEW to run their Grand Slam events at Arthut Ashe Stadium, an idea he brought to the company that has been very successful.  During his time with the company, Morfi was able to book the promotion into a number of NBA and NHL Arena, helped AEW navigate the pandemic with the presentation of the TV Tapings in Jacksonville and was a key internal team member involved in all aspects of All In: London's marketing and promotional efforts for the company's record-selling PPV in Wembley Stadium.
