Several years ago, Kurt Angle said there was going to be a documentary on his career. Whatever happened to it?
WWE acquired the rights and it's now on the WWE Network and Peacock under the title ANGLE. It's a great film, especially if you love amateur wrestling.
I read that FOX's expectation of SmackDown! was 5 million viewers. The last time SD! was anywhere near that was in 2005 when the show was doing low-to-mid 3s in households (low 5s in viewers). WWE's TV viewership has followed the trend of general erosion of TV viewership. Even with heavy marketing and promotion, how did either side - WWE and FOX - think 5 million viewers was feasible?
Obviously, FOX expected that they would be able to make it happen. It didn't happen. As to why they believed they could hit that number, I don't know as I don't have insight into what data and strategies they had in-house.
I’m really looking forward to The Iron Claw next month. I’m hearing a lot of good buzz and I’m hoping this will inspire a lot of interest in pro wrestling history in the mainstream sphere. What other real life wrestling stories do you think would make for a great, Oscar-friendly film without any sugarcoating? I’d think that Terry Funk or the Herb Abrams story would make for amazing movies.
iI'd never argue against Terry Funk but I think Kurt Angle's life story would make for a hell of a story as well. I don't see Herb Abrams being such a contender in the light you are thinking of.
MJF’s contract ends in less than two months. Based on what you know, do you think he’ll stay with AEW? He’s quickly become their flag-bearer and I have my doubts as to whether or not WWE would water down his character if he signed with them.
I expect MJF to be where he gets the most money. The end.
