What is the internal reaction in WWE Jade Cargill signing?
The company is happy to have her. If you mean the talent, I haven’t heard anything one way or the other, which is how it should be.
When casual fans or WWE fans see super scrawny guys like Orange Cassidy, Hook, Adam Cole, Nick Wayne, Darby Allin and a cadre of luchadors being pushed to the moon, doesn’t it really push the suspension of disbelief a little too far? Most regular people I know could easily take them in a fight, much less someone like Brian Cage, who has lost to some of the above. Could these unbelievably small guys consistently beating guys twice or three times their size be a cause of AEW’s current stagnation? How would you address this?
There are fans that look at the business the way that you and I do. I have a hard time believing a little guy can beat up a big guy because it almost never happens in real life. For instance, I can’t watch The Young Bucks acting like The Road Warriors and do anything but laugh at how absurd it is. With that said, there are fans that watch wrestling for the moves and the action that don’t care at all if it’s believable as long as they get the spots that they want to see. Those fans are AEW’s hardcore base. But marketing to those fans also limits AEW’s chance at growing their audience because when people like you turn on the show, they don’t like what they see.
So let me get all this down. Since All Out 2021, the three major stars Tony Khan had signed to AEW have been severely injured AT LEAST 2 times in the past 2 years. Adam Cole got a year sidelining concussion and a broken foot. Brian Danielson got a broken arm, a concussion and a broken orbital bone. And CM Punk got a broken foot, a torn tricep and not to mention his reputation tarnished from all the drama backstage. Is there anything else? Did I get it all down?
If you look at AEW and WWE, AEW has so many more injuries. Part of it, like with Punk, is due at least in part to ring rust. With the other two, and a lot of other guys on the roster (like Mox for instance) it’s due to the fact that Tony Khan lets those guys do a lot of unsafe and unnecessary things. Cole did not need to jump off the ramp way. Fenix did need to fly to the floor and concuss Mox, etc. Plus, when you have refs that let a concussed guy wrestle for over 10 minutes and make him take two finishes, well if I were a wrestler I would take WWE over AEW any day. I would want to work in the safer place.
Did I miss something and if I did please let me know but was Tony Khan's gift to Sting actually Ric Flair? That seems like a weird gift to me.
With all of the money Tony has, I would have expected a high end car if it were me.
One of your competitors responded to a dig at him on Twitter by saying he is a Hall Of Fame sportswriter. Do you view yourself that way?
I view Mike Johnson as a Hall Of Fame wrestling reporter. No one is better that Mike at wrestling news reporting. No one. I saw that tweet you mentioned and I just wondered why a guy who is almost eligible for Medicare goes to the effort to find someone with almost no followers put out troll bait, and he reacts to it. To me, it’s a huge waste of time and tells me that the person doing it has some issues. As for me, I am only a few years younger than the guy you mentioned and honestly I don’t care what anyone thinks about my legacy. If you like it, great. If you think I am a clown, fine by me. To me, confidence is about knowing how good you are. When you need to tell others, well…. well, like I said above, you have some issues.
