Dave and Mike are very clearly 2 of the most respected and influential wrestling journalists on the planet. The main reason I follow your site is because 75/80 percent of what your view of is syncs up with mine. My question is, do you feel you have to be careful with what you say and/or type. Obviously you guys need to stay strong to your opinions but knowing if you say “AEW had a bad show tonight” and “Great PPV by WWE” is quickly turned in “PWInsider hate AEW and kiss McMahons ass” do you feel sometimes, you need to bite your lip and avoid the hassle?
First off, thank you. I have to make a bit of a correction here. At this point in my career, I am not really a journalist anymore, at least not when it comes to digging up news. When Mike Johnson is on the same staff, there is no real reason for me to chase stories anymore because he always gets to them first. I see myself now as informed analyst of the wrestling business. With that said, even when I was in the Mike Johnson role of reporting back in the day when I started this thing, I never worried about how my honest opinion would be received by anyone. I have always kept it real. For example, I would never give a match five stars just because my friends/sources were in the bout. The fact of the matter is, the people in the business that I really respect don’t want smoke blown up their ass. They want an honest take. That’s how I have always been and there’s no reason for me to change now. I can’t speak for Mike but I believe he feels the same way.
Tony Khan is dumb enough to believe they’re not the secondary promotion because they have a big crowd in London for a night? Can he not read the room?
If he really believes what he said, he’s delusional. Yes, they are doing a great house at Wembley. Guess what? If WWE had decided to run there, they would have done at least as big of a house. Let’s see what they do next time they are there. Past history has shown that they will do their biggest house the first time they go to a building. Look at Arthur Ashe in NY. They did over 20,000 in 2021. Last year? Much less. This year? They are currently scaled for less than half of what they drew in 2021. In my opinion, Tony should focus on his companies and realize that WWE is the industry leader. After all, in interviews he has even stated that! He should also grow some thicker skin.
Unless they use an agent, indies have to secure their own bookings and travel, with a big promotion all bookings are handled by the promotion. I know they handle most of their own travel but when does the promotion take care of travel and lodging?? All PLE's or just the major ones?
Tony Khan has stated he handles all of that for the talent. WE doesnt pay for hotels for anything but Mania week. International tours (including Saudi) are covered by whoever is buying the tours from WWE.
What would happen if, on one of the Saudi shows, a woman showed some skin when wrestling? What would happen?
The world would spontaneously combust and we would all be destroyed.
I think that Ilya Dragunov is the best wrestler/entertainer on NXT. I remember his feud with Gunther and their payoff match was one of the best that I have ever seen. Do you see him getting to the main roster and going after the big guy?
I love Dragunov, the guy is fantastic. If he doesn’t make it to the main roster it would be criminal. It’s just a matter of time. When he gets there, I can’t say who he will work with but I have confidence that HHH and his team will use him very, very well.
