INDEPENDENT WRESTLING DOCUMENTARY 'FAKE IT SO REAL' TO RECEIVE BLU-RAY RELEASE THIS MONTH

By Mike Johnson on 2023-08-01 12:27:00

The 2011 Robert Greene documentary Fake It So Real, which looks at North Carolina independent wrestling promotion out of Lincolnton as they build to a big event, profiling a number of the local talents seeking to put on a show for their local fans, will receive a blu-ray release on 8/29.  The film had been previously available on DVD and for streaming.

Promotional material for the film's theatrical run noted:

"Filmed over a pivotal week leading up to Saturday's main event, FAKE IT SO REAL follows a ragtag group of wrestlers in North Carolina, exploring what happens when their over-the-top theatrics in the ring collide with the realities of the working-class South. Young rookie Gabriel aspires for the Big Time, and to gain acceptance within this close-knit family of tough guys. Troupe leader Jeff may miss his first show in a decade due to a debilitating injury. With elaborate backstories and flamboyant costumes, J-Prep, Zane, Pitt, Solar and the rest of the crew each face their own obstacles on their way to the top.  They aren't paid for their passion, but these weekend warriors treat wrestling like painters do canvas. Delivering all the grit, spit, sweat, dirt and blood inherent to its subject, FAKE IT SO REAL affectionately honors this brotherhood's physical feats, artistic triumphs, and unending dreams."

The Blu-Ray release will feature the following extras:

-A look at the NYC Rooftop Films NYC premiere

-MWF Mixtape -Wrestling promos by indie film luminaries including: Alex Ross Perry (The Color Wheel and Listen Up Philip), Michael Tully (Ping Pong Summer and Septien), Lawrence Michael Levine (Wild Canaries), The Ross Brothers (Western and Tchoupitoulas), Michael Bilandic (Hellaware), Jarred Alterman (Convento), Mark Elijah Rosenberg, Tom Hall, Daniel Metz, Aaron Hillis, Adam Shartoff and Craig Butta.
