WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN TOMORROW: THE WWE NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS TIP SHEET

By Dave Scherer, Mike Johnson & Richard Trionfo on 2023-05-26 09:31:00

WWE presents Night of Champions in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Saturday.  Here's our take on what will happen in the matches.

Brock Lesnar vs. Cody Rhodes

Dave: We have talked about how Cody hasn't overcome adversity in the storylines.  Well, that should change here.  Cody has to beat Brock here because he is the full time guy while it's probably time for Brock to take a break since he has been around for a while now.  Winning this feud will be really great for Cody's character.  If he loses here?  Well, it would be the exact opposite of that.

Mike: They pretty much claimed that Cody's arm is broken and in the past, we've seen Brock break arms and take people out.  So, this is either going to be a quick, massive squash to give Cody some "hard times" or it's going to see Cody make the biggest Superman comeback ever.  This is the guy who fought with that insane injury inside Hell in A Cell against Seth Rollins, so I expect we'll see him get his ass kick and at least come close to making a massive win.  But, I don't see Brock losing twice in a row to the same guy, not when they can do a rubber match that extends Cody's chase for the title even longer.

Richard:  I guess we found out the best way to not be medically disqualified from a match is not to see the doctor.  Will Cody be able to fight through the injury he suffered to his arm on Monday night to defeat the big bad Brock?  Probably, but let's talk about why.  Brock will wrestle the Brock Lesnar formula match of suplex, F5, Kimura, rinse, repeat but he will get too overconfident and Cody will find the opportunity to get the victory and move on to his quest for a World Title.

Seth Rollins vs. AJ Styles for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Dave: I have expected Seth to win the Title from the time that they announced the thing so I am not changing course now.  The match itself should be great.

Mike: Having AJ wins means the new belt is going to Smackdown or they are already moving him (and the O.C?) back to Raw, which is super stacked already.  I don't see it.  I think we will get a fantastic in-ring match here but Rollins wins, deservedly.

Richard:  In a world where logic reigns, Seth wins this easily because this is a RAW title and Seth is on Raw and AJ isn't.  This will be a very good match featuring two of the best in ring performers.  I think they have put too much focus on Seth's quest to not give him the title (just like with Cody going into Wrestlemania).  If Seth wins, it allows for a lot of SHIELD footage to be shown and the tease of champion vs champion at Survivor Series.

Raw Women's Champion Bianca Belair vs. Asuka

Dave: Bianca has to retain here.  She needed a match due to the stip of the show and it makes sense to end the Asuka chapter here.

Mike: I am in 100% agreement with Dave.  I figure Bianca ducks the mist and hits the KOD.  I am hoping they give them some time here.

Richard:  When I was running through the card for this Tip Sheet, I forgot that Asuka is wrestling Bianca.  This should be a good match, but I have a feeling it will be a 'typical' Bianca match where her opponent controls a lot of the match, but something happens and Bianca hits KOD to win the match.  I hope we are moving closer to Zoey Stark and Bianca.

Smackdown Women's Champion Rhea Ripley vs. Natalya

Dave: Natalya is here to do the job, that simple.

Mike: Rhea is the franchise here.  Love Natalya but don't see her winning.

Richard:  It seems like every time there is a gap in who should face the champion in WWE, Natalya slips in and takes the spot.  This should be a relatively easy win for Rhea, but Natalya will try to pull off the upset.

Intercontinental Champion Gunther vs. Mustafa Ali

Dave: Ali is here to do the job, that simple.  I do expect him to get some stuff in though.  Gunther is great and especially great when working with smaller guys.

Mike: This is all about the underdog getting some hope spots in before he gets swatted out of the air and pinned.

Richard:  This has total destruction written all over it, but so did the Bruins/Panthers series for many and look where the Bruins are in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.  I hope they let Ali get in some offense in this match, but it will be a showcase for the champ.  When Brock Lesnar challenged anyone to come out, I thought Ali was going to come out and get destroyed so they could do Gunther/Brock.

WWE Tag Team Champions Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn vs. Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa

Dave: Ah, the drama.  I expect KO and Sami to retain.  The question is how.  I could see The Usos showing up and interfering, and having it backfire.  That is a great way to keep the titles where they belong and escalate the drama in The Bloodline.

Mike: I can predict one thing: Roman isn't getting pinned!  I expect some sort of DQ finish here perhaps but the Tag Champions retain.

Richard:  I still don't know why the Usos weren't added to this match so there were two teams who could beat Kevin and Sami and almost guarantee the Bloodline flies out of Saudi Arabia as the champions.  Last week on Smackdown, Roman brushed into Solo and Solo gave him a look, so there might be some tension with the challengers.  With Kevin dedicating their win to the Usos, will that be enough to piss off Roman enough to make a mistake and cost the team the victory?  I want Roman to have all the titles, but for some reason, I think Kevin and Sami retain.

Becky Lynch vs. Trish Stratus

Dave: The outfit Trish wore on Raw will not be allowed in Saudi Arabia, that's for sure.  Much like what I said above with Cody, the same holds true for Becky here.  She is the full timer and Trish has gotten a nice extended post Mania run.  Becky should get the win here and Trish can go on hiatus.

Mike:  In asking around, I am told this show is not scheduled to be the end of Trish's current WWE run.  The heel usually wins the first match of a feud and I expect that here.

Richard:  I will get it out of the way first, thank you Trish.  I am a bit surprised this match is happening in Saudi Arabia, but Trish is a legend and probably someone the people of Saudi Arabia would be familiar with from the past.  If Becky wins, what is next for them?  Therefore, I think Trish wins by nefarious means and this continues the feud to maybe Summerslam, if they don't want to give us the next match at Money in the Bank.
