AUSCHWITZ MEMORIAL MUSEUM STATES WWE IS 'SHAMELESS' FOR USING IMAGERY WRESTLEMANIA WEEKEND

By Mike Johnson on 2023-04-06 10:25:00

National Public Radio in the United States reported this afternoon that The Auschwitz Memorial has issued a statement after WWE used imagery of the site as prison B-Roll in a promotional video over Wrestlemania weekend hyping Dominik Mysterio vs. Rey Mysterio at Wrestlemania 39.

"The fact that [an] Auschwitz image was used to promote a WWE match is hard to call 'an editing mistake,' " the museum wrote on Twitter. "Exploiting the site that became a symbol of enormous human tragedy is shameless and insults the memory of all victims of Auschwitz."

The Auschwitz concentration camp was a complex of over 40 concentration and extermination camps operated by Nazi Germany in occupied Poland during World War II and the Holocaust.

NPR notes that WWE has not responded to a request for comment.
