AEW DYNAMITE BLOG

By Cory Strode on 2023-04-05 20:52:00

It is Wednesday and AEW Dynamite is at the UBS Arena in Long Island, NY. Our commentary team is Excalbur, Taz, and Tony Schiavone.

Ricky Starks comes to the ring to face Juice Robinson, but is met instead by BOTH Juice Robinson and Jay White who beat down Starks. They announce the match was a no contest, but it was a introduction for Jay White to come into the company.

We then go to the back with Tony Schiavone who is with Christ Jericho who is asked why he came to the ring to help Daniel Garcia. He says he doesn’t want to take anything away from Adam Cole, but that Cole punked Garcia.

This brings out Keith Lee saying that Jericho knows all about disrespecting someone and next week, he will teach Jericho something about respect in the ring.

House of Black (AEW Trios Champions) vs Orange Cassidy and the Best Friends

The Best Friends show up in Trent Beretta’’s Mom’s Minivan, which is a nice touch.

Trent and Malakai Black start out with mat wrestling and it’s a solid sequence with near falls. They tag Chuck Taylor and Brokdy King into the ring. And then when Buddy Matthews tags in, it’s him vs Cassidy. Cassidy then plays the babyface in peril as House of Black keep him in the ring as they tag in and out.

This is also when the tag team bell goes off and all six men are fighting in and out of the ring. As Cassidy and then Trent dive, they get caught by House of Black and beaten down outside the ring. Cassidy is still unable to tag out through the commercial break. The Best Friends and Cassidy take over when they come back, and we get the “each person gets a takedown followed by someone doing the same thing” moves.

Rush and his team come out to watch the match and Trent gets to give everyone a pile driver until Brody King cuts him off. Cassidy hits an Orange Punch of King and Trent is finally able to get a pile driver. In the end, Buddy gets a curb stomp for the pin and the win.

Winners and still Trios Champions: The House of Black

We then go immediately to a video from Christian Cage and Luchasaurus who has new gear

Jamie Hayter (AEW Women’s Championship) vs Riho

Looks to be a super fast paced show as they roll right into this match.

The match is also fast based, with both of them moving from move to move with breakneck speed. They keep this speed up until Hayter is able to take control of the match, and she slows things down. She goes for more power moves until we get the picture in picture. When we return to full screen, Riho starts hitting finishers for two counts.

As the match goes on, Riho gets in a lot of offense which sows some seeds of doubt. I also like that as the match goes on, Hayter doesn’t use any heel tactics, since the AEW homegrown stars are the heroes in the current storylines. She shows a lot of frustration in being able to beat Riho until she gets the Haterade for the pin and the win.

Winner and still AEW Women’s Champion: Jamie Hayter

In the back, Renee Paquette is with the Outcasts who give Hayter sarcastic applause, and they say they will make sure that Hayter will lose the championship.

Angelo Parker, Matt Menard, Jake Hager, and his hat call out the Acclaimed, who rap that they will not be joining the Jericho Appreciation Society. Instead, they will be fighting on Rampage.

Super fast paced show, with not a lot of time for things to sink in.

We then get a video about MJF getting the key to the city in Oyster Bay. We then have live musicians who play MJF to the stage. He says they are here to celebrate MJF Day. He sings Pennies From Heaven.

He then finishes the song in the ring, set up with a podium and tables to display the title. The Town Supervisor starts to make a speech and MJF tells the fans not to ruin this moment for him. He gives MJF the key to Long Island.

MJF then gives a speech running down Sammy Guevara, Jungle Boy, and Darby Allin. He says when he was a kid, he had ADD. And the crowd chants ADD. He says he had a teacher who used to humiliate him. He says the teacher asked him where does your brain go when you aren’t paying attention. He says it would go to Pro Wrestling and she said he would never be a star. And that teacher was wrong!

He asks if the crowd wants to hear an encore. The cymbal player messes up and he yells at him. We find out the cymbal player is Jungle Boy and they brawl on the stage. Security pulls them apart and Sammy Guevara comes to the stage where the title belt is laying. He holds it up and then shoves it into MJF as he goes to the ring for his match.

Sammy Guevara vs Kommander

This is a huge spotfest, with both men moving spot to spot to spot to pop the crowd. There is someone in the section right across from the hard camera with a sign that reads “That’s Shmart - Taz”.

Kommander gets to show his signature moves including a few times walking the ropes into a leaping attack. We also see Darby Allin in the rafters, watching the match. Sammy si able to get the GTH for the win.

Winner: Sammy Guevara

Sammy is stacking up wins as they build him up in the title picture. Tony comes to the ring and Sammy grabs the mic and says he just did something MJF doesn’t do and that’s wrestle. He then talks about how he had MJF beat when they wrestled in Jacksonville until Shawn Spears hit him with a chair. He says MJF was built by the people he used to get to the top.

He talks about how MJF turned his back on any group he’s been in, and he won’t do the same. He put his heart and his soul into AEW. Sammy gives a bit of babyface promo until he says he won’t let some rich bitch from crappy Long Island beat him. Hopefully they don’t try to turn him babyface, because it didn’t work the last time they tried it.

Hook (AEW Champion) vs Ethan Page

It’s a shame that all of the build up for this match since the build Page and Matt Hardy have been doing was hilarious.

The match goes quickly, and as Isiah Kassidy gets on the apron, Ethan Page grabs the FTW belt, but Matt Hardy stops him. Matt then pulls the belt away from Page and pops him with it, and Hook gets the Redrum and the win.

Winner: Hook

Hook, Matt Hardy and Isiah Kassidy go up the ramp together.

Next up, and it’s Nigel McGuinness with Tony Khan, whose big announcement is a PPV in Wembley Stadium for the August PPV All In.

The Black Pool Combat Club is on their way to the ring as we go to commercial.

Blackpool Combat Club vs 3 Guys they don’t introduce

Squash time.

Winners: Blackpool Combat Club

The beat down continues after the match. Bryan Danielson then talks about how much he loves the members of the BCC when they attack people. He says the people they beat look like someone the EVPs would have hired and they are the only Professional Wrestlers in the building tonight.

Adam Page storms to the ring. He gets in the ring and goes after Mox, but he gets swarmed. Danielson says he is an amateur, and the BCC members are professionals, and he loves them. He says no one loves Page because no one is coming to help him. He then pulls out a screwdriver and drives it into Page’s face talking about how he did some home repairs and now they are going to repair AEW.

The Gunns (AEW Tag Team Champions) vs FTR - Titles vs Careers

The announcers remind us that FTR has lost their last 5 matches including three titles.

FTR works their old school style and the Gunns do a good job of going along with it. Colton is the ring for most of the opening, and the Gunns get control once the match goes outside the ring, and Cash is kept in their corner as they go into the picture in picture.

Dax actually tags in before they come back to full screen, and he is able to fight both of the Gunns. Dax blocking a step through for a sharpshooter which looks awesome. FTR then moves to a series of tag team moves, and it’s been a while since we’ve seen them do that. Dax gets a cover and then Colton pulls the ref on two.

Austin gets a near fall that the crowd popped for the kickout. We then get a series of near falls by Dax and Austin gets a blatant low blow and the ref decides not to throw out the match because it means the end of FTW’s career. Colton tries to slide the title into the ring and the ref grabs it, but a second title is tossed in when the ref isn’t looking and Dax comes off the top into the belt. Austin only gets a two count.

FTR is able to get double roll ups for the pin and the win.

Winners and new AEW Champions: FTR
