Coastal Championship Wrestling, which runs regularly in Florida and Nashville, TN have started pre-production for a planned re-creation of mythical professional wrestling promotion Championship Wrestling from Florida, PWInsider.com can exclusively confirm.

PWInsider.com can also confirm the promotion has appointed Kevin Sullivan, obviously well versed in all things CWF, to act as Executive Producer and Creative Director of the new project.

“The ownership at CCW, and the team we have here, are the spiritual successors to what we created here in Florida with Gordon Solie, Dusty Rhodes, and the countless others who made Championship Wrestling from Florida what I believe to be the greatest territory in professional wrestling history,” Sullivan told PWInsider.com.

Dave "Gangrel" Heath, has been tapped to work as the promotion's Head of Talent Relations and will work as a Producer as well.

“I’m a Florida boy, born and raised, and I’m just super stoked to be a part of something that I’ve watched and loved my whole life.” Heath stated.

Bill Alfonso, who can trace the roots of his career to CWF's original incarnation, where he was a referee will also be working as a Producer and will handle Media Relations.

The current plan is that filming for the CWF series will commence this May with CWF branded events kicking off in July.  This has been a long-gestating project for CCW and they are currently in discussions with numerous potential distribution partners with the idea of spotlighting the brand well beyond just the Sunshine State.  The promotion filed for a trademark on the Championship Wrestling from Florida name back in January.

When reached this afternoon by PWInsider, CCW owner and Executive Director Nelio Cuomo Costa noted that CCW itself was always meant to be a spiritual successor to the CWF legacy, noting, "The spirit of Championship Wrestling from Florida clearly inspired CCW: The Last Territory.  Dusty Rhodes was instrumental in our creation and early success, so working with Kevin Sullivan in the creation of this brand is a “full circle” moment for all of us.”

Costa and Sullivan will be sitting down with PWInsider.com next week for a longer discussion about this project.  We'll have more as it is confirmed.
