Professional wrestling shows are often marred with acts that might seem a little out of the ordinary. Mock combats performed in the ring normally seem brutal, some displaying fatal maneuvers. Here, emotional intelligence is a prerequisite, both to the wrestlers and fans, to discern its reality and appreciate the game.

According to a recent study, over 36% of wrestlers with high ability to regulate their emotions suffered mild injuries. “Emotional intelligence is a skill that is important not only for identifying choreographed wrestling but also for daily life endeavors. Some employers can’t give job seekers with no emotional intelligence opportunities,” says Gitnux’s head of HR.

Professional wrestling has been in the market for almost 70 years. Over the years, we have witnessed some amazing moments, compelling narratives, and exhilarating action in wrestling. It has produced famous people like The Rock, The Undertaker, and John Cena. Professional wrestling fans develop strong emotional bonds with their favorite fighters and never want to see them lose a match.

This emotional involvement could be a component that causes people to watch blindly, which is perhaps why many people think professional wrestling cannot possibly be choreographed. Hollywood films and television shows are more fake in comparison to professional wrestling. But it is also staged and produced like them.

It is true that most professional wrestling shows like WWE are choreographed, but the action you witness is usually real. The jumping, punching, kicking, and other fighting techniques are all authentic. It’s why you will see fighters with bruises and black eyes after a fight. However, who wins a match and what moves to make are scripted.

To execute the scripts smoothly, the fighters need to be emotionally intelligent. Perhaps this is why fans cannot differentiate between real and choreographed moves in the show. Some fans who are too invested in mock combats can get into an emotional rollercoaster, not realizing that it is a game like any other. But again, an emotionally intelligent fan can easily tell the two apart.

Professional wrestling has always been choreographed, and for many years people did not think it was. When the news about the show being fake broke out, wrestling companies were worried that the industry would no longer be profitable. Things turned out differently. Despite many knowing the show was choreographed, thousands turned up to watch live and millions on their screens. As reported by Pwinsider, some to date don’t believe it is choreographed because their emotional intelligence is low. Having emotional intelligence is important for both wrestlers and fans.
