In the world of pro wrestling, there are lots of stories and myths and sometimes, there are even some truth behind them. On September 7, 1982, Flair traveled to The Dominican Republic in what was supposed to be a standing NWA World Championship defense, but something unexpected happened - a title change! As legend has it, Flair realized how over Veneno was and that if they went with the planned finish, Flair was doomed to be trapped inside a riot or worse, so instead, the title changed. While the title change was never officially recognized by the NWA (ball is in your court, Billy Corgan!), the footage aired regularly on local TV for years and made Veneno a lifelong hero in his home country.
