World Series Wrestling: Phoenix Rising Day 1 Recap 

- Matt Cardone and Chelsea Green make their way to the ring to start the show, Green tells everybody “hail the deathmatch king.” Cardona says a bunch of stuff to the crowd, but the audio on the show is so low that I can’t hear it too well. Cardona says he and Green came to Australia for the money and big paydays, Green and Cardona make out in the middle of the ring. Green promises to win the WSW Women’s Championship and then never come back to Australia, Cardona promises to win the WSW World Championship in the future. 

Trey Miguel vs. Mick Moretti

The match begins with Miguel and Moretti working over each other’s arms, Moretti drops Miguel before rolling him up. Miguel gets up and Moretti goes to work on his arm, Moretti and Miguel exchange arm drags before a stand off takes place. Miguel drops Moretti with an arm drag before kicking him in the upper body, Miguel knocks Moretti out of the ring after landing a basement drop kick. Moretti gets back in the ring and he does a handstand before dropping Miguel with a head scissors takedown, Moretti throws Miguel out of the ring before faking a suicide dive. Miguel returns to the ring to knock Moretti out of the ring and he follows up with a suicide dive, Miguel gets Moretti back in the ring to get a near fall on a pin attempt. Miguel then hits Moretti with multiple knee strikes to the midsection, Miguel catches Moretti in a roll up before working over his arms. Miguel drops a swinging Moretti again before landing a double stomp for a near fall, Miguel keeps Moretti down while working over his arm. 

Miguel gets Moretti seated on the top rope before meeting him up there, Moretti shoves Miguel off the ropes before falling to the arena floor after slipping off the top rope. Moretti eventually nails Miguel with a drop kick for a near fall, Moretti traps Miguel in the corner while landing some strikes. Moretti corners Miguel again before landing a running hip attack followed by a super kick for a near fall, Miguel fights back to land a striking combo followed by a double stomp. Miguel then hits Moretti with a Shades Of Page for a near fall, Moretti fights back and a striking exchange breaks out in the middle of the ring. Moretti catches a leaping Miguel with a German suplex followed by a dragon suplex for a near fall, Miguel recovers and he hits Moretti with a brain buster for another near fall. Miguel misses a top rope double stomp and Moretti nails him with a Fisherman’s Friend for a near fall, Moretti gets Miguel seated on the top rope before following him up there.

Miguel gets free hit Moretti with a super kick, Moretti recovers and he hits Miguel with a poison rana followed by a curb stomp for a three count.

Winner: Mick Moretti

Vacant WSW Women’s Championship: Tenille Dashwood vs. Chelsea Green w/Matt Cardona vs. Taya Valkyrie

The match begins with Green leaving the ring to let the other competitors battle themselves, Valkyrie and Dashwood double drop kick Green into Cardona. Dashwood knocks Valkyrie to the ring apron after landing a tilt-a-whirl head scissors, Dashwood then hits Valkyrie with a move in the ropes for a near fall. Cardona interferes alongside Green to trip up both competitors, Green gets in the ring and Valkyrie nails her with some strikes. Valkyrie then drops Green with a clothesline for a near fall, Valkyrie corners Green while landing some more strikes. Green falls down and Valkyrie nails her with a running butt smash followed by a running double knee strike for a near fall, Dashwood returns and she battles Valkyrie after trying to pin Green. Valkyrie and Dashwood have a striking exchange in the middle of the ring, Valkyrie quickly dumps Dashwood out of the ring. Valkyrie traps Green in the ropes before landing a sliding snap German suplex, Dashwood returns and she drops Valkyrie face first on the ring apron. Cardona argues with Green and Green sends her into the ring post, Green gets Valkyrie back in the ring to get a near fall on a pin attempt.

Green sends Valkyrie in the corner before landing a running clothesline followed by a suplex for a near fall, Green keeps Valkyrie down while applying a chin lock to her. Valkyrie gets free and she nails Green with a cross body block, Green recovers and she hits Valkyrie with an enziguri for a few near falls. Dashwood returns and Green nails him with a ton of strikes, Green then hits Dashwood with a short arm clothesline for a near fall. Green sends Dashwood face first into the turnbuckle before pulling back on both of her arms, Dashwood gets free and she trades some strikes with Green. Dashwood gains control after dropping Green with a few clotheslines, Dashwood then gets Green in the tarantula hold. Green falls in the corner and Dashwood hits her with a Taste Of Tenille for a near fall, Green fights back and she climbs the ropes while eating strikes from Dashwood. Valkyrie returns and a tower of doom takes place, a three way striking exchange takes place in the middle of the ring.

Valkyrie ends the exchange before knocking Green out of the ring, Valkyrie goes after Green and Dashwood takes them both out with a dive from the top rope. Dashwood gets Green back in the ring for a near fall on a pin attempt, Dashwood then hits Green with a double underhook suplex before eating a spear from Valkyrie. Green takes out Valkyrie with a big boot before eating a Spotlight Kick for a near fall after Cardona interferes to help Green, Dashwood and Green exchange roll ups until Green rakes Dashwood’s eyes. Green then hits Dashwood with an Unprettier for a near fall, Cardona interferes and he attacks Valkyrie. Cardona then hands Green the title belt and she holds Valkyrie, Green accidentally hits Cardona with the belt before Valkyrie nails her with a Road To Valhalla for a three count.

Winner: Taya Valkyrie, your new WSW Women’s Champion

Alex Zayne vs. Buddy Matthews

The match begins with Zayne slapping Matthews in the face before eating a knee strike that knocks him out of the ring, Zayne gets back in the ring and Matthews stares him down. Matthews stomps on a downed Zayne before working over his arm, Zayne fights back and Matthews chases him around the ringside area. Matthews catches up to Zayne and he drops him back first on the ring apron, Zayne avoids a leaping Matthews before landing a few strikes. Matthews traps Zayne in the corner before landing some chops, Matthews misses a strike in the corner and Zayne sends him face first into the middle turnbuckle. Matthews leaves the ring and Zayne follows him out there to land a few strikes, Zayne briefly returns to the ring before taking out Matthews with a moonsault to the arena floor. Zayne remains outside the ring with Matthews while landing more strikes, Zayne accidentally chops the ring post and Matthews sends him into the barricade afterwards. Matthews looks to send Zayne into the ring steps and Zayne sends him into the barricade a few times, Zayne goes for a rana and Matthews counters with a power bomb onto the ring apron.

The wrestlers get back into the ring and a striking exchange breaks out in the middle of the ring, Zayne then nails a charging Matthews with a super kick. Matthews looks for a knee strike and Zayne counters with an enziguri followed by a standing moonsault and standing corkscrew splash for a near fall, Zayne goes for a springboard dive and Matthews counters with a double knee strike for a near fall. Matthews goes to the middle rope and Zayne takes him down with a rana, Zayne then hits Matthews with a knee strike followed by the Baha Blast for a near fall. Zayne goes to the top rope and he misses a double stomp attempt, Matthews then traps Zayne in the corner before landing a series of super kicks. Matthews then hits Zayne with a Liger Bomb for a near fall, Matthews sets up for Murphy’s Law and Zayne counters with a roll up followed by a knee strike. Matthews recovers to hit Zayne with a knee strike and Murphy’s Law for a three count.

Winner: Buddy Matthews

WSW Tag Team Championship: Flippin Machines (Flip Gordon & Brian Cage) (c) vs. The Parea (Eli Theseus & Gabriel Aeros)

The match begins with a shoving exchange between Gordon and Aeros, Gordon trips Aeros and he gets him in a headlock. Aeros fights back and he works over the arm of Gordon, Gordon gets free and Aeros knocks him to the ring apron. Gordon gets back in the ring and he nails Aeros with a head kick, Theseus hits the ring and Gordon knocks him out with a drop kick. Theseus tags in and Cage tags in a short time later, Cage sends Theseus into the corner before landing shoulder thrusts. Cage also traps Theseus in the corner to land chops and clothesline smashes, Cage follows up with a short arm clothesline on Theseus. Cage goes for a delayed vertical suplex on Theseus and Aeros breaks it up, Cage then attempts one on Aeros and he winds up getting hit with a double suplex from the opposition. Cage quickly recovers and he nails both foes with a double suplex, Gordon tags in and he double teams Theseus with Cage to clear the ring. The Parea return to the ring and then attack Gordon, Gordon tries fighting back and Aeros interferes to hit him with a clothesline.

Theseus returns to the ring and he holds Gordon so Aeros can land a bunch of strikes on him for a near fall, The Parea double team Gordon while Cage argues with the referee. Aeros tags in and he stomps away on a downed Gordon for a near fall, Aeros holds Gordon down while applying a chin lock on him. Gordon fights back and he winds up eating a drop kick from Aeros, Theseus tags in and he nails Gordon with some strikes followed by a suplex. Theseus taunts Gordon and Gordon manages to drop him, Aeros prevents a tag so Theseus can choke Gordon with a flag. Gordon fights back against both opponents before tagging Cage in, Cage quickly starts cleaning house against the opposing team. Cage then hits The Parea with a double release German suplex, Cage follows up with a power slam on Theseus for a near fall. The Parea fight back and they hit Cage with a double team move, Aeros tags in and he nails Cage with a frog splash for a near fall. The Parea go for Hadies Curse and Cage breaks it up before Gordon takes them both out with a missile drop kick, The Parea leave the ring and they get taken out when Cage tosses Gordon onto them. 

Gordon tags in during the madness and he nails Aeros with a death valley driver into a super kick for a near fall, Theseus attacks Cage before tagging into the match. The Parea hits Gordon with a Magic Killer for a near fall, Theseus places Gordon on the top rope when Cage returns to hit him with a pump kick. Cage hits Aeros with a deadlift suplex and that leads to double frog splashes from both teams for a double near fall, Gordon and Theseus have a striking exchange in the middle of the ring. Theseus avoids a leaping Gordon and that leads to everybody taking turns taking each other out, Gordon nails Theseus with a cutter and Aeros takes out the referee to prevent a three count. Aeros distracts his opponents so Theseus can land a double low blow on them both, Aeros grabs a chain and he nails Gordon with it. Theseus then gets a near fall on Gordon when the referee is revived, Aeros tags in and Cage returns to prevent a double frog splash from happening. Cage takes out both opponents with a power bomb/power slam combination, Cage then hits Aeros with a buckle bomb. Gordon and Cage then hit Aeros with a spike Drill Claw for a three count.

Winners: Flippin Machines (Flip Gordon & Brian Cage), still your WSW Tag Team Champions

After the match, Brian Cage talks about not being able to compete in Australia due to the pandemic before he and Flip Gordon show respect to The Parea.

Chris Basso vs. Alexander Hammerstone

The match begins with some chain wrestling between Hammerstone and Basso, Hammerstone takes Basso down with a headlock takedown. Hammerstone messes with Basso’s hair and that angers everybody, Hammerstone and Basso exchange some holds until Basso kicks Hammerstone in the face. Basso messes with Hammerstone’s hair and Hammerstone gets angry, Basso gets Hammerstone in a headlock and Hammerstone gets free to land a shoulder tackle. Hammerstone traps Basso in the corner while stomping and choking him, Basso fights back and he takes Hammerstone down with a middle rope rana. Hammerstone leaves the ring and Basso takes him down with a moonsault, Basso follows Hammerstone around the ring while landing some strikes. Hammerstone fights back and he drops Basso on the ring apron, Basso recovers to send Hammerstone into the ring steps before getting him back in the ring. Hammerstone leaves the ring and he catches a leaping Basso before power bombing him on the ring apron, Hammerstone sends Basso into the ring apron before getting him back in the ring.

Hammerstone sends Basso into the ropes before landing some shots to his back, Hammerstone holds Basso in the abdominal stretch while also landing strikes to his midsection. Basso gets free and Hammerstone quickly nails him with a power slam, Basso fights back and Hammerstone nails him with an overhead belly to belly suplex for a near fall. Basso gets Hammerstone to the ring apron and Hammerstone nails him with an enziguri, Hammerstone goes to the top rope and Hammerstone meets him up there to land a one man Spanish fly. Basso gets up first and he drops Hammerstone a few times before landing a neck breaker, Basso then hits Hammerstone with a running knee strike for a near fall. Basso goes for a Sega Mega Driver and Hammerstone avoids it, Hammerstone regains control while nailing Basso with a few strikes. Hammerstone meets Basso on the middle rope and Basso manages to drop him on the top turnbuckle for a near fall, Hammerstone catches a charging Basso and he suplexes him into the corner.

Hammerstone then hits Basso with an enziguri followed by a missile drop kick, Hammerstone then hits Basso with a TKO for a near fall. Hammerstone goes for a Nightmare Pendulum and Basso blocks it from happening, Hammerstone and Basso have a striking exchange. Hammerstone ends the exchange by nailing Basso with a release German suplex followed by a power bomb, Hammerstone again goes for a Nightmare Pendulum and Basso counters with a roll up. Basso then nails Hammerstone with a gut buster for a near fall, Basso follows up with a top rope moonsault on Hammerstone for a near fall. Hammerstone recovers and he nails Basso with a burning hammer for a near fall, Hammerstone then hits Basso with a Nightmare Pendulum for a three count.

Winner: Alexander Hammerstone

Vacant WSW World Championship Match: Joey Janela vs. Johnny Downunder (John Morrison)

The match begins with Downunder mocking Janela with his dance moves, Janela goes after the arm of Downunder and Downunder rolls him up for a near fall. Downunder takes Janela down with a headlock, Janela gets up and he quickly drops Downunder with a back suplex. Janela follows up by dropping Downunder with a back elbow strike, Downunder gets up and Janela nails him with a few strikes. Janela misses a charge in the corner before eating a head kick from Downunder, Downunder then hits Janela with a corkscrew splash for a near fall. Downunder mounts Janela in the corner while landing more strikes, Janela leaves the ring and he avoids a possible dive from Downunder. Janela grabs Downunder and he sends him into the ring post, Janela removes the mats from the arena floor and he nails Downunder with a clothesline while riding a fan’s electric wheelchair. Janela gets Downunder in the ring to get a near fall on a pin attempt, Janela follows up by sending Downunder face first into the middle turnbuckle.

Janela quickly drops Downunder again to get a near fall on a pin attempt, Janela bends the arm of Downunder before stomping on it. Janela follows up by nailing Downunder with a neck breaker for a near fall, Janela holds Downunder down while applying a chin lock to him. Downunder gets up and he trades a few strikes with Janela, Downunder recovers and he drops Janela with a springboard head kick. Downunder nails Janela with a leg lariat before landing a knee strike for a near fall, Downunder goes for Starship Pain and his knee gives out. Janela winds up nailing the injured Downunder with a clothesline before getting him to the ring apron, Downunder and Janela exchange strikes on the ring apron. Janela ends the exchange to hit Downunder with a death valley driver on the ring apron, Janela gets Downunder back in the ring before landing another death valley driver for a near fall. Janela grabs a door and some chairs and he brings them into the ring, Janela sets the door up on some chairs that he brought in the ring. 

Janela drags Downunder up the ropes and Downunder gets him on his shoulders, Downunder puts Janela through the door with a super Samoan drop for a near fall. Janela recovers and he nails Downunder with a release German suplex, Downunder responds by hitting Janela with a clothesline. Janela fights back and he nails Downunder with a brain buster, Janela follows up with a destroyer on Downunder and Downunder responds with one of his own. Downunder and Janela have a striking exchange in the middle of the ring, Janela ends the exchange by kicking Downunder in the head for a near fall. Janela leaves the ring and he returns with another door, Janela sets the door up on the chairs that were already in the ring. Janela looks for a power bomb and Downunder defends before landing a side Russian leg sweep, Janela fights back and he manages to get Downunder on the table before landing a top rope double stomp that pouts him through the door for a near fall. Janela follows up by hitting Downunder with a piledriver for a near fall, Downunder recovers and he throws a chair at a charging Janela.

Downunder then hits Janela with a spinning neck breaker onto a chair for a near fall, Downunder puts a broken door on top of Janela before landing Starship Pain for a three count.

Winner: Johnny Downunder, your new WSW World Champion
