KUSHIDA, KENTA, TANAHASHI, ALEX ZAYNE & MORE: 7/3 NJPW ROAD REPORT FROM KORAKUEN HALL IN TOKYO, JAPAN

By James Kurokawa on 2022-07-03 18:16:00

7/3 New Japan Pro Wrestling Road results from Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan:

Tiger Mask and Ryohei Oiwa vs. Togi Makabe and Tomoaki Honma

Tiger Mask came to the ring with the All Japan Pro Wrestling  World Junior Heavyweight Title.  He defeated Hikaru Sato on June 19 for the title.

Honma forced Oiwa to submit to a Boston Crab.

Tiger Mask addresses the crowd saying he will defend this title with honor, putting over AJPW in his speech.

El Desperado, Yoshinobu Kanemaru and Minoru Suzuki vs. Master Wato, Kosei Fujita and Hiroyoshi Tenzan

Fujita attacked Suzuki at the bell, throwing elbows.  Suzuki absorbed them all and threw Fujita into his corner.  Tenzan tagged in.   Desperado tagged in.   Fujita rushed Suzuki and they battled to the floor.   Chaotic start.  But it settled into a normal tag match.

Suzuki knocked Fujita silly with a stiff elbow.  He hit a Gotch Piledriver on Fujita.

Suzuki pins Fujita.

Aaron Henare and Great O-Khan vs. BUSHI and Hiromu Takahashi

Henare traps BUSHI in a Full Nelson.  Hiromu tries to break it up but O-Khan applies a Sheep Killer.   Henare with a body scissors on BUSHI to take him to the mat.

BUSHI taps out.

They are getting Henare over as a monster with his Full Nelson finisher.  He looks ready for the G1 Climax.

Yuji Nagata, Clark Conners and The DKC vs. SANADA, Shingo Takagi and Tetsuya Naito

SANADA applied Skull End to DKC.   DKC taps out.

Conners and Nagata encouraged the crowd to applaud for DKC as they went back to the locker room.

DKC looked fine in his debut within a Japanese ring. He had a tough task facing LIJ, but he is getting good experience.

Toru Yano, YOSHI-HASHI and Hirooki Goto vs. EVIL, Yujiro Takahashi and Dick Togo

Yujiro hits Big Juice on YOSHI-HASHI and gets the pin.

After the match, Togo throws Yano into a dog cage at ring side.   Dick Togo will face Toru Yano in a Dog Cage match later in the week.

House of Torture will defend the NEVER Openweight 6-man Championship against Hirooki Goto, YOSHI-HASHI and YOH on July 5.

Tomohiro Ishii and Kazuchika Okada vs. Taichi and TAKA Michinoku

Okada applies the Money Clip on TAKA who taps out.

Alex Zayne, KUSHIDA and Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. KENTA, Taiji Ishimori and Gedo

KUSHIDA applies a Hammerlock Suplex with a bridge on Gedo.  KUSHIDA pins Gedo.

Everyone looked good in the match.   Zayne loves being in Japan.  KUSHIDA got a pop from the crowd.  KENTA looks refreshed and ready for the G1.

KUSHIDA addresses the Korakuen crowd after his first match.  He thanks them and his partners.  He said he did not achieve everything he wanted in WWE, but he now has new goals in New Japan.   Zayne, Tanahashi and KUSHIDA pose in the ring for the crowd as the show ends.

Note:  There have been a bunch of changes to New Japan Road cards due to injuries and illness.   G1 Climax begins on July 16.  This was my concern for New Japan as everything opens up and travel increases.  Wrestlers are traveling to perform across the world, which puts them at risk.  Last year, Tetsuya Naito was injured in his first G1 match.   Kota Ibushi was injured in the Finals and has yet to return.   While I am happy to see Alex Zayne, Clark Conners and The DKC performing in Japan, I would like all the wrestlers to be healthy and safe so the fans can enjoy their work in the ring.
