WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN TONIGHT: THE 2022 WWE MONEY IN THE BANK TIP SHEET

By Dave Scherer, Mike Johnson & Richard Trionfo on 2022-07-01 14:01:00

WWE will be holding the 2022 WWE Money in the Bank PPV at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, NV on Saturday night.  Here's our take on what will go down in the greatest city on the planet (you know who started this tip sheet).

WWE Raw Women's Champion Bianca Belair vs. Carmella.

Dave: A lot of talents are underused and under-appreciated in WWE and Carmella is definitely one of them.  I remember back when she was the champion and as she got better and started having really good matches, they took the belt off of her.  Typical WWE.  That's a long way of saying Carmella is really good.  With that said, this match (as is often the case with WWE) came out of nowhere so unless they have no plans at all for Bianca at SummerSlam and they want to do a screw finish to set up the rematch where she gets her belt back, she retains.  But knowing WWE and their (lack of creative) preparation, the scenario I put out could absolutely happen.  But it won't.

Mike: This is a great chance for Carmella to step up and showcase herself and to me, that should be the goal here.  I don't believe anyone sees Carmella, given the way she's been portrayed, to take the title, but that doesn't mean she can't have a great showing here and mean more going forward.  Athletically, she can easily hang with Bianca, so they should have a great match.  I hope they are given the time to do so and if they are, this should be a lot of fun.

Richard: Of the many title matches on this show, the one I am most confident that the champ retains is this one.  It should be a good match, but you have pulled Carmella up from 'remember when I was a tag champion and I didn't get along with my tag team partner and then I left to get married' to number one contender due to Rhea's injury (get well soon).  Bianca gets the KOD, and depending on when this match is on the card, maybe we get the staredown with the briefcase holder.

WWE Smackdown Women's Champion Ronda Rousey vs. Natalya.

Dave: Natty is a loyal WWE soldier, for sure.  I have a lot of respect for her.  With that said, I don't see her winning here.  This is a "thrown together because we have a PPV" match.  The next "real" challenger for Ronda, in the WWE booking sphere of Vinny Mac, is Charlotte Flair.

Mike: Again, no chance Nataya wins here but they will have a nice match before Natalya taps to the armbar.

Richard: The positive about this match is that they probably won't be talking too much during the match.  Natalya will come close to winning but fall short as we prepare for the inevitable return of Charlotte Flair to get revenge on Ronda for losing the title.

Women's MITB Ladder Match: Asuka vs. Alexa Bliss vs. Lacey Evans vs. Liv Morgan vs. Raquel Rodriguez vs. Shotzi vs. Becky Lynch.

Dave: OK, so above I suggested a screwy finish leading to a rematch at SummerSlam.  The story has been Becky NEEDS to win and get her belt back so I see her at least winning here and headlining SummerSlam with Bianca.  The only other woman I would consider putting over here is Raquel, who is awesome and should be a future champion.  If I am guessing, we get Becky-Bianca and Ronda-Charlotte.  This company loves rematches.

Mike: There are a lot of good candidates to win here.  If it was me, I'd be going with Lacey Evans as after flipped and flipped on what brand and what type of character she was going to portray, she deserves a shot.  But, Liv, Raquel and Alexa could all do well with the briefcase.  I like the idea of Asuka and Becky taking each other out, given their history, in order to set someone else getting the case.  The odd woman out, in my mind, is Shotzi and I wonder if she's there to be taken out and replaced by Charlotte Flair if Flair is ready to return.  This should be very good.

Richard: Do you finally give Liv Morgan her moment in the sun since she has come close so many times without grabbing the brass ring (or metallic briefcase)?  Asuka and Shotzi are not going to win this match.  I think Alexa comes close but Liv stops her because we found out they really aren't friends.  Raquel would be a good option because it is something different, but she will have to wait to smile over a victory like this.  Lacey cannot punch her way into winning this match, but the military veteran winning the opportunity for a future title opportunity on the Fourth of July weekend is a good story.  That leaves Becky who will probably win because that is what WWE does.

Men's MITB Ladder Match: Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Sheamus vs. Omos vs. Sami Zayn vs. Riddle vs. TBA.

Dave: I would love to go with TBA but I will go with Rollins.  He has done good soldier jobs to Cody and they usually reward top talent that do that.

Mike: Obviouly, Kevin Owens was to be the final competitor but he wasn't able to compete at Raw.  In my mind, Riddle winning to force another title shot against Roman Reigns makes the most sense from a storyline perspective.  If not, then Drew should win and immediately announce he's cashing in at Clash at the Castle.

Richard: With Riddle added to the match, I want to see him win so they can get around the stipulation for their Smackdown title match where he cannot challenge Roman any more while Roman is champion.  There is no loophole that WWE has provided to give him the match (like MLW did with Alex Hammerstone to face Jacob Fatu).  Drew doesn't need the briefcase since he will probably get the title match in Wales.  Sami winning would make for some awkward moments if he tried to cash in on Roman.  Sheamus would be a good option but he shouldn't need a briefcase to earn a title match (but he has to clean up after Butch so that takes away from his title match obligations).  Omos shouldn't win, but I would love to see him able to touch the bottom of the briefcase without a ladder.   Rollins probably wins so he can 'dance' around and cackle with the briefcase for months.

Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos vs. The Street Profits.

Dave: I love the Profits but if they needed a pep talk from John Cena, like they got on Monday, to know they belong in this match?  Yeah, they aren’t winning here.  The Bloodline has to go into SummerSlam strong.

Mike: These teams always have great matches.  I don't see the titles changing.

Richard: When the Usos were feuding with the Wyatt Family, I always picked the wrong team to win their matches.  It feels like I have done the same for this feud.  For Roman's ego, it would be expected that the Usos retain.  The Street Profits have won some singles matches against the Usos leading into this match, but I think that is all they get and the Usos retain again.  It is a shame that there aren't any other credible opponents on the main roster at this time.

WWE United States Champion Theory vs. Bobby Lashley.

Dave: I love Lashley, he is a true pro's pro.  Nothing but respect.  After watching Raw and seeing John Cena give a TON to Theory before walking away from the selfie while Theory's back was turned, I am hoping that means they will finally get behind someone and push them to the top.  A win over Lashley will help him on that path.

Mike: I see Theory winning on some technicality, likely Lashley losing it and getting DQ'd.  No way Lashley is doing the clean job.

Richard: If they are suggesting Theory/Cena as a possibility for SummerSlam, is this the time you take the title off Theory or do you keep the title on Theory and let Theory get the win of his career over Cena at the end of the month?  Lashley deserves better than what he has gone through in this angle, but it isn't Omos.  Theory retains in a good match.
