If you grew up in the 1990s and enjoyed watching World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), we have some good news for you. WWE's popularity has only grown over time as people continue to enjoy the entertainment offered by the wrestlers in the ring. WWE has grown into one of the most lucrative entertainment and marketing companies in sports history.
WWE boasts wrestlers from various backgrounds and ethnicities, including those of Indian descent. Let's look closely at some of the best Indian wrestlers or wrestlers of Indian descent who dominated the ring.
The Great Khali, whose real name is Dalip Singh Rana, was the first Indian professional wrestler contracted by WWE in 2006, and he quickly became a fan favourite. Not only in the US, but plenty of betting websites in India, like those found on sportsbetting24.in, has featured the Great Khali matches
Rana moved to the United States to pursue a wrestling career before becoming known as The Great Khali. Before joining WWE, he worked for various major promotions across the world, including WCW, NJPW, CMLL, and AJPW.
Rana joined WWE in 2006 and began wrestling for SmackDown. During his stay on SmackDown, he defeated several renowned superstars, including The Undertaker, Kane, Rey Mysterio, Ric Flair, and Batista.
Khali had an unbeaten record that was halted by The Undertaker in a last-man-standing bout at SummerSlam. Khali spent the remainder of the year in ECW after the feud. They drafted Khali to RAW in 2007, where he began clashing with Kane. He defeated Kane at WrestleMania XXIII.
Following Mania, he challenged John Cena to a match for the WWE Championship. For the WWE Championship, he was defeated twice by John Cena. Khali was drafted to SmackDown at the draft. Khali defeated Kane and Batista in a 20-man SmackDown battle royal to win his first WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Khali lost the title to Batista at No Mercy in a Punjabi Prison match. Khali had several small feuds with Finaly and Big Show after losing the title, all of which he lost. Khali lost the WWE Championship to Triple H at SummerSlam.
Jinder Mahal, originally Yuvraj Singh Dhesi, is from Canada, but Punjab is in his blood, and he made his WWE debut in 2011.
Dhesi grew up in a wrestling family and has aspired to be a professional wrestler since childhood. Before joining WWE, he worked for several independent organizations in Canada. Dhesi returned to the independent promotions in Canada, where he began his career after being released by WWE. Before signing with WWE, he wrestled for a few American independent promotions.
Dhesi began working at FCW in 2010 after signing a developmental deal with the company. During FCW, he adopted the ring name Jinder Mahal. They drafted Dhesi to SmackDown in 2011, where he allied himself with The Great Khali. After a year on the main roster, Mahal was demoted to NXT.
Mahal competed in the Gold Rush competition while in NXT. Mahal advanced to the finals, where he was defeated by Seth Rollins. Following his time in NXT, Mahal returned to SmackDown and formed a partnership with Drew McIntyre and Heath Slater.
The trio created the stable 3MB and served as an enhancement group. 3MB competed in several trio tag team matches but did not win. When Mahal and McIntyre were let go from the company in 2014, they dismantled the team.
Sunil Singh and Samir Singh are siblings in the professional wrestling tag team The Singh Brothers (previously known as The Bollywood Boyz).
Under the aliases Gurv and Hurv, the Singh Brothers made their Cruiserweight Classic debut. However, they were not successful in their first forays into WWE.
After impressing higher-ups on numerous NXT tapings, the two were announced for the second annual Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. Even though they did not win the competition, they created an impression and were quickly called up to manage Jinder Mahal.
Working with Jinder Mahal thrust them into the spotlight, and they were widely featured on weekly television when Mahal won the WWE Championship. Sadly, they were relased from the franchise in 2021.
