By Mike Johnson on 2022-05-12 22:00:00

Welcome to PWInsider.com's Impact Wrestling on AXS TV report!

Impact is in Newport, Kentucky, opening with Matt Rehwoldt and Tom Hanifan welcoming everyone to the show.  They announce that a new top contender to Josh Alexander's Impact Championship will be named tonight and will go on to challenge Josh at Slammiversary on 6/19.  In honor of the legacy of Impact Wrestling, they will do so by winning a Gauntlet for the Gold.  They air a video package on the Gauntlet.

Slammiversary Ultimate X Qualifying Match: Kenny King vs. Chris Bey.

Honor No More and Bullet Club are banned from ringside.  Yeah, let's see how long that stands.  Maria Kanellis is at ringside doing commentary.  She mocks Bey for being a Bullet Club fanboy.

Some nice back and forth wrestling early on.  Bey cinched King in a head scissors but he escaped and grabbed a side headlock.   They battled to the floor, where King drilled Bey with a big forearm and tossed him in, but Bey rebounded and hit a big tope con hilo to the floor.   Back in the ring, King regained control and nailed a double knee strike.  He went for a full nelson but Bey escaped and rolled through for a two count.  King nailed a back elbow and hit a big powerslam for a two count.  King locked in an armbar and worked over Bey, picking him up for a slam.  King missed a springboard legdrop off the ropes.   They battled back and forth.  King catches Bey in the corner and nailed the chinchecker and followed up with a Tiger Driver for a near fall.

King caught Bey on the ropes and rolled him up, using the ropes for leverage.  The referee caught him and stopped the count.  They battled back and forth.  Bey went for the Art of Finesse but instead executed Sliced Bread #2.  He went to the top but Maria Kanellis distracted him, allowing King to nail a leaping uppercut.  They battled over a superplex on top.  King was shoved into the ring but rolled through a jumped up with a kick to the head.  Kenny King nailed The Royal Flush and scored the pin.

Your winner, Kenny King.

Backstage, Alisha Edwards was knocking on Gisele Shaw's locker room, telling her their match is next.

Impact Wrestling Knockouts Tag Team Champions The Influence vs. Gisele Shaw & Alisha Edwards

Alisha and Madison locked up with Edwards being  backed into the corner.  Madison broke clean.  Edwards nailed a clothesline.

Edwards rolled her up for a two count and followed up with a sunset flip.  They battled over a backslide with Edwards finally nailing a clothesline for a two count.  Shaw tagged in and they attempted a double suplex, but Tenille Dashwood made the save.  Shaw and Edwards worked them over as the champs retreated.  After a commercial break, Dashwood was in control stomping away on Edwards in the corner.

The champions tagged in and out, controlling Edwards.  Madison worked over Edwards, trying to force a submission, then cinched in a rear chinlock.  Edwards fought her way out but was nailed with a neckbreaker for a two count.  Shaw finally got the hot tag and hit a nice series of kicks and hit a big DDT for a two count.  Shaw charged but was sent into the buckles.  Edwards made the and hit a Flatliner on Rayne but Dashwood made the save.  Shaw got into the ring and argued with the referee.  That allowed The Influence to double team Edwards.  They nailed Shaw then wiped out Edwards for the pin.

Your winners and still Impact Wrestling Tag Team Champions The Influence!

They aired another really damn good Violent by Design promo with Eric Young stating they would take the Impact Wrestling Tag Team titles next week from the Briscoes but this week, he's taking his spot at the top of the hill by winning the Gauntlet for the Gold and getting back what belongs to him.

Impact Executive Gail Kim came out to make a big announcement, revealing the first-ever Queens of the Mountain match will take place at Slammiversary.  Knockouts Champion Tasha Steelz and Savannah Evans came out.  She said Kim was obsessed with taking the title off her and asked if that was because she beat the last of her generation, Mickie James.  Steelz said that Evans would be in the match but Kim corrected her and said all the competitors are former Knockouts Champions - Jordynne Grace, Deonna Purrazzo, Mia Yim and Taya Valkyrie.  Steelz said that she thinks Kim is trying to get personal and said if that's what she wants, they can get person.  Out came Mia Yim, who began brawling with Savannah and Steelz.  Yim fought with them and got the better of them but all the other competitors hit the ring and brawled.

Gia Miller interviewed Rich Swann.  He was asked what it would mean to win Gauntlet the Gold.  As a former champion who never got his rematch, this is about opportunity, something he never received.  Everyone else wants to have that opportunity.  Guys want to be World Champ so bad, Matt Cardona claims to be the World Digital Media Champion.  He doesn't care what it takes or how long he has to go, he's willing to fight all night long.

Impact Wrestling Champion Josh Alexander & Tomohiro Ishii vs. Jay White & El Phantasmo

Alexander and White went to start up but White played mind games by immediately tagging out to ELP.  They locked up and Alexander flung him off into the corner.  They locked up again with ELP going for a takedown but Josh reversed and rode him to the mat.  They had some nice back and forth wrestling and reversals before Alexander cinched in an armbar.  White and Ishii tagged in and drilled each other with hard shots.  Ishii massacred him with some forearms and then took out ELP as well.

Ishii went for a suplex but White landed on his feet.  Ishii went for another but again it was blocked and Ishii was spiked down with a DDT.  ELP worked over Ishii on the floor as White distracted him.  ELP had also nailed Josh Alexander on the outside.  Bullet Club worked over Ishii for some time.

Ishii finally had enough and stepped to White but ELP attacked him from behind.  Ishii finally made the hot tag and began throwing around German suplexes like he was a member of The Jurrasic League.  Alexander went for the anklelock on ELP but White attacked and went for the Blade Runner.  Alexander escaped and nailed the C4 Spike.  ELP rolled him up and hooked the tights but Alexander kicked out.  ELP nailed a bodypress and a quebrada but Alexander kept kicking out.  Ishii returned and battle ELP.

White went for a suplex but Ishii escaped and nailed a German suplex on ELP.  He went for a lariat but White tripped him.  Alexander tripped ELP and nailed White.  ELP chopped Ishii.  Bad idea.  Alexander nailed a Whirlybird.  Ishii nailed a basement lariat.  Ishii followed up with a brainbuster and scored the pin.

Your winners, Josh Alexander and Tomohiro Ishii!

Impact Wrestling Tag Team Champions The Briscoes boasted about winning the tag team titles.  They are going to celebrate 20 years of history at Slammiversay but next week they are going to fight Violent by Design.  They aren't scared of anyone and the titles aren't going anywhere.

Gauntlet for the Gold

Chris Sabin is #1.  #2 is Alex Shelley so it's the Motor City Machineguns against each other.

They had two minutes of nice back and forth wrestling and near falls.

#3 is Eddie Edwards.  The Gun double teamed him.

#4 is Vincent to even things up.

#5 is Steve Maclin.  He and Honor No More worked over The Guns.

#6 is the return of SHARK BOY.    He cleaned house and nailed a stunner on Maclin before being overwhelmed.  The Guns make the save and celebrate with Sharky.

Edwards tossed Shark Boy out.

#7 was Raj Singh.

#8was Trey  Miguel.

#9 is Gujjar.   He tossed Singh.

#10 was Shera.

Shera went right after Gujjar and worked him over.  Everyone battled.

Next out was W. Morrisey.  He started cleaning house and hit an insane Black Hole Slam on Vincent.  Shera grabbed him for a chokeslam but Morrisey broke free and clotheslined him over the top.  He then wiped out Vincent.

Everyone battled.

Next out was Eric Young.  He smashed his hockey mask on Morrisey and nailed him with a piledriver, which looked crazy.  Gujjar whipped him into the buckles.  Young did the Flair Flop but returned and tossed Gujjar.

Next out was Johnny Swinger, who was immediately tossed by Young.

Heath and Taurus joined the fray.

Rhino was out next, goring Edwards, who was then tossed.

Moose was next.

Moose backdropped Taurus over the top to the floor.  He then tossed Rhino.  Heath Miller tries to toss Moose but the former champ held on and kicked Heath away.  Miller nailed a big boot and several punches but was cut off with a big boot and dumped over the top to the floor.

Rich Swann was next and had some great back and forth exchanges with Moose.  He went for the Lethal Injection and nailed it.  Everyone battled.

Digital Media Champion Matt Cardona was next, but it wasn't him...Matt Rehwoldt hit the ring from the announcer's desk and grabbed and dumped Swann.   He said every man for himself.  The Drama King is back.

Rehwoldt tried to toss Sabin who landed on the apron and saved himself.  Everyone battled.

Next out was PCO.   He cleaned house.  Rehwoldt tried to attack him from behind and well, it didn't work out so well.  He was tossed.

PCO and Morrisey went nose to nose.   They slugged it out but was tackled by Maclin and sent over the top.

The final four are Moose, Sabin, Maclin and Young.

The lights went out and Sami Callihan was in the ring with a baseball bat.  He attacked Moose and sent him over the top to the floor.

Then, there were three.

Maclin began stomping on Sabin.  He and Young went nose to nose and then agreed to work over Sabin, stomping him together.  Sabin made a comeback with a double clothesline.  Maclin went over the top and battled with Sabin from outside the apron.  Sabin finally dropkicked him off to the floor.

It was down to Young vs. Sabin.

Young went to the top and nailed a flying elbowdrop for a two count.   He controlled Sabin and scored another two count after a big clothesline.   Sabin battled back but was hit with a piledriver for the pin.

Your winner, challenging Josh Alexander at Slammiversary, is Eric Young!
