Boxing is one of the most interesting and popular sports nowadays. Fans of the sport who enjoy MMA bet are countless.
Boxing was first recognized in England. And a little later - in 1888 - also in the United States and Canada. Already in 1904 boxing was part of the Summer Olympics.
Since the days of bare-knuckle fighting, boxing events have become more organized and the sport itself has become structured. In Canada, there are two of the oldest major organizations in the sport:
Canadian Boxing Federation (CBF);
Canadian Professional Boxing Council (CPBC).
Student wrestling in Canada is very different from student wrestling in the USA, it is more similar to European countries. First of all, there are no dual meets here and wrestling is freestyle.
Each university has its own tournament, and each college can enter as many wrestlers in different weight classes as they want. Almost anyone can join the club, and non-students can participate in university tournaments other than CIS.
This may come as a surprise to the public, but Canada does not provide students with sports scholarships, and boxing itself is poorly paid.
The best wrestlers in Canada are usually immigrants or come from immigrant families, some went to college, some not. Although wrestling has made great strides in Canada, the main system is shaped by immigrants coming to Canada, such as Cubans, Indians, Iranians etc.
There are a number of outstanding professional Canadian boxers. One such excellent example of Canadian wrestling progress is GSP. He trained at the Montreal Wrestling Club, which is affiliated to Concordia College. That said, he was never a Concordia student. MWC is run by Victor Zilberman, an immigrant from Ukraine, and Guivi "Gia" Sissaouri, an immigrant from Georgia.
Gia went to Canada and then competed for Canada and won world championships and many medals. Most of the GSP coaches were former Soviet or Cuban athletes.
Sam Langford is considered one of the greatest heavyweights in history. He fought 15 rounds at 71kg in the light-heavyweight division against Jack Johnson, who weighed 84kg.
George Chuvalo has never been knocked out, even against some of the best heavyweights of his generation. But perhaps the most famous of all Canadian boxers is Lenox Lewis, the British-Canadian boxer who had a brilliant career and won Olympic gold in 1988 with the Canadian amateur team.
Many Canadians like to watch boxing, but very few take up the sport. Many Canadians travel to Las Vegas to watch fights when possible, and study the odds on boxing betting on the way. Many competitions in Canada itself generate huge viewership and demand for tickets.
Since January 2017, there have been 195 professional boxing competitions in Canada under the auspices of more than 10 different regulatory commissions. Canada has several provincial and municipal commissions that regulate boxing as well as, in many cases, mixed martial arts, kickboxing and professional wrestling.
