YOUNG DEWEY'S FIRST LADDER MATCH, ROCKY JOHNSON & TONY ATLAS ISSUES & MORE: YOUNG ROCK SEASON 2, EPISODE 3 RECAP

By Eric Denton on 2022-03-30 08:18:00

Young Rock Season 2, Episode 3 - In Your Blood

Rock, Randall, Sandy and Casey are watching the video posted to the St.Paul News by Dr. Julian Echo (Sean Astin) explaining how Dwayne Johnson is a bad guy who tried to kill him and he shouldn’t be President.

Randall asks if he knows this guy. He said he met him at school.

 Hawaii,1984

Rocky and Tony Atlas had just won the WWF tag team titles and they were riding high making more money than ever. We see an attaché case full of jewelry. When wrestlers started making good money they called up Classy Freddie Blassie (whoever is playing him looks and sounds spot on). Freddie shows them  “the finest diamonds in Hawaii.

We see Dewey leaving “Toys R Us” with giant Shogun robots. He says Vince McMahon had made his Dad a star and had his grandmother’s back as she dealt with the FBI case against her.    We see her talking with Vince McMahom (this actor is not as con..uh… vincing). He allowed his WWF stars to still work her territory. We see Jake Roberts, George Steele, Mr. Fuji, Capt. Lou, Iron Sheik, Rocky and Tony at the television tapings.

Ata and Dewey are enjoying life. Name brand snacks, a nice apartment and the best clothes. Dewey is a big man on campus because of all of this. We meet little Julian (wearing a Hulkamania shirt) and he introduces himself “New kid here, I’m Julian, how do we know Rocky Johnson is really your Dad.”  He undermines Dewey’s life story.

Lia is doing local radio promoting the next show, again violating her house arrest continuing the gag with the FBI agent.

Dwayne tells Randall about Ata’s court case but transitions into a story about Tony and Rocky enjoying the perks of their success.

Tony, Rocky, Sgt. Slaughter and Macho Man enter a restaurant and we hear Savage telling them about the plot of “Gremlins.”  Tony and Rocky compare notes about how much money they’re spending as Andre and Pat Patterson join them. We get a quick graphic bio of Pat. We get the classic Pat joke of, “Hey Rocky, guess who was just talking about you?” Who? “Nobody!”

Dwayne talks about how his grandfather supported Pat when the other wrestlers were wary of having a gay man in the locker room. We see Peter Maivia come up to Pat, give him a hug and kiss and the other wrestlers chill out as they know not to cross the High Chief.

The wrestlers are at the table and listen to a tape recording of Lia giving the boys instructions and telling them she can’t conduct wrestling business with them. A waitress brings a plate of half eaten pancakes to the table sent to them by Lia’s nemesis Greg Yao (Ronny Chieng) mocking them. He’s been up three straight days celebrating their demise.

Rocky, Ata and Dewey are checking out waterbeds and Dewey tells Rocky about Julian. The salesman comes over but is clearly a bigger fan of Atlas.

Next day at school Dewey brings a signed photo of him and Rocky to school to show Julian. Julian says, “Did you get that at a meet and greet because I have one also, I also have a photo with Johnny Carson (he shows both). Neither are my Dad”. Students Ooooh at the burn.

Randall says, “Oh he’s that kind of kid, he sounds like the worst, no wonder you tried to kill him.”  Rock again declares he didn’t try to kill him.

Lia and Ata are watching Days of Our Lives.  It goes to break and Lia tells Ata she needs her to take over the business, according to Lia’s lawyer.   They talk during each commercial then stop to watch again. Lia says she will do great because she grew up watching her and Peter run the business.

Ata holds her first booking meeting with the wrestlers. Sika, George, Haku and Tony try to pitch new ideas. Ata does as Lia told her. She just smiles and says, “I’ll think about it."

At the taping, she realizes she doesn’t like how Lia books the show and starts thinking about ways to change things up.

Pat walks up to Dewey and asks if he is going to be a wrestler.  He tells Dewey it’s “in his blood”.

At home,  Ata decides to go over creative suggestions the crew has made and Rocky discourages it. She says they’re not great but they should be doing something different. Rocky’s jealousy shows again as he complains about how he sells the entire match, but Tony gets to make the comeback. As Rocky is talking he realizes his WWF Tag Team Championship belt is missing from the mantle.

Dewey is walking through the school, up to Julian and says, “If my Dad isn’t Rocky Johnson how do I have this?”

Julian looks at the title and says, “Well he may be your Dad, but that’s not your belt because you aren’t a wrestler.”

The students oooh again.

Dewey says he will be.

Julian says, "Pprove it.”

Dewey says, “Let’s take this to the yard.”

Lia and Ata go over the booking sheet. Ata looks over and is upset. It's the same as the last two weeks. Ata questions the backstories of the wrestlers and compares wrestling to Days of our Lives. Lia gets upset and says “I’ll think about it” and turns on the TV ending the conversation.

Dewey sets up a ladder match for Rocky’s belt in the school yard. Dewey knocks Julian off the ladder and grabs the belt. Julian gets up, tips over the ladder and leaves Dewey hanging.

Rock tells Randall, “I beat him in a school yard match and that’s what he means by I tried to kill him.”  Randall says he pushed over the ladder. The Rock says Julian was just jealous. He got in trouble for stealing the janitor's ladder.

Rocky and Tony do a radio show and we see Tony get all the praise. They ask what will the fans see this Saturday and Rocky says, “They’ll see him do 99% of the work and then Tony will pick someone up at the end."

Tony asks if there is something wrong and continues to plug the show. Rocky continues to go off breaking kayfabe. Lia is listening and gets mad. What she doesn’t know is Ata had Rocky and Tony work the radio show hosts, generating buzz for the show.

Sandy and Casey come into the room telling Rock that Julian is a real piece of work and that he’s a 2 star chiropractor who’s divorced and banned from the local Olive Garden. He’s been tweeting about Rock every day since he announced he was running for President. Rock, clearly upset, excuses himself saying he has to prepare for an interview.

He leaves the room, gets on his phone and sends off a message to Julian.

 “I see after 30 years, you’re still a jabroni."
