STING RETURNS TO TBS, CODY RETURNS, MOXLEY RETURNS & MORE: AEW DYNAMITE REPORT

By Anthony Pires on 2022-01-19 20:27:00

It's Wednesday Night! And you know what that means!  It really means that my accidental friend and hetero life mate Cory Strode has the night off.  Dude works his tail off and deserves a restful night.  Anyway, we are LIVE with tonight's AEW Dynamite! Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone and Excalibur have the call of the action.  This should be a heck of a night!

Welcome back Jon Moxley!  I can't begin to tell you how much I admire this guy for getting himself the help he believed he needed.  Washington DC is excited to see him.  Moxley goes through the crowd in typical Purveyor of Violence mode.  He's got the mic and takes in the cheers.  He seems really emotional here and honestly looks great.  Someone mocks him and he drops the F-Bomb to the guy, unedited by TBS.  He talks about his demons.  Nobody get through life unscathed.  You can tell he didn't rehearse this.  He's proud of his scars, they've made him what he is.  He's not ever running from those demons, he acknowledges them and thanks everyone for supporting him.  He warns us all to buckle up because he's truly free.  He says he's been to hell and nothing in an AEW in an AEW can put him through worse.  He's thirsty for blood now.  Mox grabs his jacket and leaves Washington DC the same way he entered, through the crowd.

MJF w/Wardlow are in the back.  He's not happy with CM Punk's tainted win last week.  He apologizes to Wardlow and wishes him a happy birthday.  However, he's not happy with Wardlow putting his hands on him last week.  He's docking Wardlow's pay until he wins the Face of the Revolution Ladder Match.

Orange Cassidy and Kris Statlander vs. Dr. Bitt Baker DMD and Adam Cole

Statlander and Baker kick us off. Baker immediately tags out.  Cole tags Baker.  Baker dares Cassidy to hit her but he uses his vicious kicks.  Baker stomps Cassidy's foot.  Statlander comes in, house of fire.  Baker tags out.  Cassidy with a cross body but Cole with a pump kick.  Cassidy turns a backbreaker into a DDT.  Baker attacks him but Statlander with the save and a looooong vertical suplex.  Statlander with a pendulum moonsault to Baker and Cassidy with a simply body drop.  They hug and Cole and Baker with tandem superkicks.  Big kiss between the happy couple as we go to commercial.

We're back and Orange is slumped in the corner.  He evades a charge and he and Cole nail each other with a double clothesline.  They each tag out.  Statlander with the power advantage. She mocks farting on Cole.  Blue Thunder bomb for 2 by Statlander.  Baker misses an armdrag and the 2 roll about until Baker scores a 2 with a backslide.  Neckbreaker by Baker, she gets the tag to Cole.  Cole and Cassidy trade right hands.  Cole with a kivk to the quad and an enziguiri.  Cassidy with a slumdog millionaire.  Baker with a blind tag, she nails Cassidy with a curb stomp. Statlander with a backbreaker.  She goes to the top but Cole covers Baker up.  She nails a 450 anyway.  Cassidy with a beach break on Cole for 2.  Cole rolls out and nails a superkick as Cassidy attempts a tope con hillo. Statlander saves Cassidy from a Panama Sunrise.  Superkick and Canadian Destroyer by Baker as Cole hits a Sunrise on Cassidy for 2.  Cole and Baker set up the timekeepers table.  Cassidy accidentally knocks Baker through the table.  Low blow by Cole and lowers the boom with a running knee for the pin.

WINNERS: ADAM COLE AND DR BRITT BAKER DMD

Alex Marvez is with Chris Jericho, Ortiz and Santana.  Jericho doesn't care about Kingston's injury.  Proud and powerful don't like Jericho disrespecting Kingston.  Ortiz and Santana think there's some merit into what Eddie has been saying about Jericho.  Is the Inner Circle unraveling?

Alex is back from commercial with Adam Cole, he is not happy and throws Marvez.  He says Cassidy has been a thorn in his side too long.  Next week is Beach Break.  He challenges Cassidy to an anything goes, lights out match.

We are treated to a video package hyping the upcoming contest.

CM Punk vs. Shawn Spears

MJF joins the booth. Punk with an immediate GTS for the pin.

WINNER: CM PUNK

Punk and MJF stare each other down.

As Punk poses to the crowd, MJF runs into the ring but Punk was ready for him.  MJF bails but not before Punk yanks off his $4000 scarf.

Billy Gunn confronts Christian.  As the Gunn Club is in the top 5, they want a tag team title shot.  Austin and Colton attack him from behind and slam Christian into the wall.

Cody Rhodes is up next. He's playing up to the crowd.  Cody's looking under the ring and pulls out a ladder.  He asks DC what they want to talk about.  He references the Punk pipebomb form 2011 and how it began a revolution.  As destiny would have it, Punk wasn't able to do the things he referenced.  He puts over Punk's comeback.  Cody points out that HE, in fact, was the one who did all the things Punk said he'd do.  Cody credits himself with building the Forbidden Door.  He then says he's gone for 2 weeks and the Young Bucks start another Wednesday Night War by starting a fight with developmental talent like RedDragon.  Cody has a lot to say about the roster, in a positive way. He warns Brody King that it takes cajones to refer to himself as Brody in AEW, making a reference that -1 will be coming after him soon.  He challenges Sammy Guevara to a unification ladder match next week.

I hope Jim Ross is feeling OK, his voice is very hoarse.

Tony Schiavone is with Anna Jay and Jade Cargill.  Mark Sterling happily accepts Anna's challenge for the TBS title

Malakai Black and Brody King vs. Griff Garrison and Brian Pillman Jr w/Julia Hart

King and Garrison kick us off, Black tags himself in as King musckes him into the corner.  King tags back in and mauls Garrison into his corner.  Pillman thinks twice about about trying an Air Pillman on King.  Frustrated on the outside, the Blondes argue.  Garrsion takes a clothesline, shoving Pillman out of the way.  The House of Black absolutely destroy Pillman in the ring.  Dante's inferno by King and he scores the pin on Pillman

WINNERS: MALAKAI BLACK AND BRODY KING

Pac appears on the screen.  He's seeking justice and vows to make a Martyr of them.

We see highlights from last week's return of Lance Archer.  Jake Roberts and Dan Lambert are with Archer.  Adam Page says he welcomes the challenge.

Roppongi Vice shows up to interrupt Brandon Cutler.  They remind us that they beat the Young Bucks for the IWGP Jr. Tag Team Title.  They issue a challenge for Friday.

Frankie Kazarian vs. Lance Archer w/Dan Lambert and Jake Roberts

Forearm by Archer, Kazarian returns the favor.  Dropkick by Kazarian but a clotheline by Archer.  Forearm drop by Archer, followed by a big chop in the corner, Kazarian fights back but Archer sends him to the canvas.  Archer stomps him.  Big kicks by Archer in the corner.  Huge elbow strike by Archer.  Kneelift and a suplex by Archer.  Archer is mauling him in the corner. Back elbow by Kazarian but Archer clotheslines him to the floor as we go to commercial.

We're back and Archer has a choke on Kaz and lays another huge chop on him. Kazarian gets sent face first into the opposite buckle.  Archer shoves his head into the mat.  Kazarian flips out of a chokeslam attempt and nails a flying forearm. Archer with a big elbow strike.  Kazarian fights off the Blockout and hits a missile dropkick. 1 count by Kazarian after a legdrop.  Archer with a forearm and a chokeslam.  Archer with a helicoaster.  Archer finally puts Kazarian out of his misery with a Blackout

WINNER: LANCE ARCHER

Tony Schiavone goes to the ring.  Lambert grabs the mic and tears apart Adam Page verbally, mocking his upbringing.  Archer grabs the mic and says that's enough of the Cowboy Bulls---.  He throws Kazarian to the ramp and goes for a chokeslam.  Adam Page emerges to make the save and goes face to face with Archer.  They trade forearms on the ramp.  Page gets the better of it. Action spills into the ring where Archer blocks a buckshot lariat.  Page with a clothesline sends Archer over the top.  Lambert and Archer leave.

Powerhouse Hobbs and Ricky Starks with a warning for Dante Martin.

Tony is in the back with Kris Statlander and Red Velvet. Leyla Hirsch immediately interrupts and blames Statlander for losing on Rampage.  Red Velvet is trying to keep the peace.  Hirsch nails Velvet and follows suit with Statlander, applying an armbar. Referees break it up.

Skye Blue vs. Serena Deeb

Lockup, headlock takedown by Deeb.  Standing switch into a shoulderblock by Deeb and she sends Blue to the apron.  Guillotine by Deeb into a Hang(wo)man Neckbreaker.  Slingshot across the bottom rope by Deeb. Uppercut by Deeb.  Deeb with a swinging neckbreaker.  Deebtox by Deeb and pounds the right knee of Blue before applying the Serenity Lock for the tap.

WINNER: SERENA DEEB

Ethan Page, Scorpio Sky and Dan Lambert are in the back. Ethan Page accepts Jon Moxley's challenge.  That has been confirmed for Rampage.

We get a video package on Hook, who'll meet Serpentico on Rampage.

Jade Cargill vs. Ana Jay for the TBS title is confirmed.

Cody vs. Sammy Guevara in a Unification Ladder Match is official for Beach Blast, as is Santana, Ortiz and Chris Jericho vs. Daniel Garcia and 2.0.

Matt Hardy has sold Andrade 51% of the HFO, but somehow Matt has controlling interest of the Board of Directors.  They are now known as AHFO.  Andrade wants to recruit Darby Allin.  This doesn't make a lot of sense.

The Acclaimed vs. Sting and Darby Allin

Do yourself a favor and check out the "Goth Phase" video the Acclaimed released.  The Acclaimed attack on the floor.  Bowens with achair to the guy of Allin (the bell hasn't rung). They send Allin into the post with a chair wrapped around his head.  Allin may be headed to the back. Sting opts to go it alone. Sting takes out the Acclaimed with right hands.  Bowens gets sent into the buckle and throws him to the floor.  Sting throws Bowens into the steps, followed by Caster.  Back in the ring, he nails Bowens with a Stinger Splash.  He goes to do it to Caster, but Caster pulled the padding off and Sting flew right into it. We go to commercial.

We're back and Bowens is hovering over Sting.  Caster tags in and Sting nails them with a souble clothesline.  Sting applies the Scorpion Leg lock to Caster but Bowens with 2 forearms to break it up.  On the outside Bowens nails Sting with the boom box as Caster distracted the referee.  As the Acclaimed set up a spike piledriver Darby Allin nearly commits suicide by launching himself at the Acclaimed.  Allin tags in and nails a coffin drop on the Acclaimed.  Coffin Splashes in the corner by Allin, he slaps a guillotine on Caster.  Caster gets the tag out.  Backbreaker and mic drop for 2..  Sting breaks it up and we've got a 4 way brawl.  Sting jumps off the apron and splashed Caster through a table.  That has to hurt.  Allin with a stunner to Bowens and a coffin drop for the pin.

WINNERS: STING AND DARBY ALLIN

That's all form DC.  Thanks for reading!
