IS PEACOCK A FAILURE FOR WWE?, THE ONE PERSON WHO COULD BRING THE ROCKY JOHNSON BOOK BACK TO PRINT, HOW AEW SHOULD HANDLE A STREAMING SERVICE AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2021-12-10 10:00:00

Do you think Peacock taking over the WWE Network was a failure?  Will they ever make the WWE search feature easier to use?

I don't think you can call something that pays WWE a LOT of money a failure for WWE, but I do feel your pain in that it's not as easy to utilize or enjoy vs. the former WWE Network here in the United States.  Don't expect to see the search feature or even how the shows are listed to change.  I think WWE was placed into Peacock's infrastructure and they aren't going to switch the search feature up just for WWE fans.  At least we can now pause and rewind live events!

Do you think AEW will launch their own OTT service?

No, I think if AEW is going to do anything, it should be working with a third party that pays them for the content.  That is a far easier route vs. building, running and maintaining their own service, but that's just my opinion.  Having an AEW hub on HBO Max, for example, is a nice piece of marketing and publicity for the company.

Whatever happened to Richie Steamboat?

Unfortunately, he retired following a back injury that required surgery.

I saw Danny Doring is still wrestling and did that big angle for the ISPW company.  Whatever happened to his partner, Roadkill?

Roadkill retired after his WWE run due to issues stemming from a neck injury.  He lives in the NYC area and still makes appearances at different conventions in the Northeast.  I always felt he was extremely underrated and it's a real shame he didn't get a bigger WWE run, as at one point, Vince McMahon was said to have been very high on his work.

Any good books on the old Memphis territory?

There are a ton of books on the subject, including several by Mark James that reprint classic results and programs that were sold during Memphis' run at MemphisWrestlingHistory.com.   There have been some really great autobiographies over the years including Jerry Lawler, Bill Dundee, Jimmy Valiant, Dutch Mantel and Jerry Jarrett.  I'm still waiting for a Jeff Jarrett book as I'm sure he'd have a great insight into the time period.

Any chance the Rocky Johnson book goes back into print?

Yeah, if the Rock  or someone on his team want to make it happen.  A major part of the issue was that Rocky reneged on his deal with author Scott Teal, who did all the work on the book.  There's a reason ECW Press pulled the book.   If The Rock wants to reach out to Teal and work something out, I can assure you that Scott, who is one of the truly great people in this world, would be happy to listen and make something happen.
