11/27 NEW JAPAN PRO WRESTLING BEST OF SUPER JUNIORS 28 RESULTS FROM KANAGAWA, JAPAN

By James Kurokawa  on 2021-11-27 15:43:00

11-27-21 Results from New Japan’s Best of the Super Jr. 28 From Kanagawa Japan:

Yuto Nakashima vs. Ryohei Oiwa

Both men wrestled to a draw.

Most of these matches have come down to one man getting locked in a Boston crab or half crab and trying to get to the ropes.  The drama builds until the timekeeper rings the bell.  Between Oiwa, Nakashima and Fujita, no one has really stood out above the others, which is fine.  They are still learning so this all a part of the process.

Best of the Super Jr. 28 Matches:

Ryusuke Taguchi vs. Yoshinobu Kanemaru

Taguchi tried some comedy spots and Kanemaru was not having any of it.   Kanemaru attacked his left knee for the figure four.  Taguchi fought back with an ankle lock submission.  Kanemaru tried to grab the referee and kick Taguchi in the privates.   Taguchi grabbed him in a Tiger Suplex position and lifted him in the air.  Taguchi let go of Kanemaru and fell to the mat.   Kanemaru came down crotch first on Taguchi’s knees.   Taguchi kicked him into the ropes and rolled him up with a school boy.

Taguchi pins Kanemaru

Solid match.  They were competitive and told a good story in the ring.

DOUKI vs. SHO

Multiple referee  bumps.  Both men used their weapons that they brought to the ring.  SHO grabbed the referee and threw him into DOUKI.  SHO hits DOUKI with a low blow and smashes his head with the wrench.    SHO puts DOUKI in the Snake Bite.  Referee checks on DOUKI and awards the match to SHO.

SHO wins and in the lead in the BOSJ 28.

When SHO basically Irish whipped the referee into DOUKI, how is this not a disqualification?   There is rarely disqualification rulings in New Japan which is understandable, but then what is the point of referees enforcing rules?  Or does this mean all wrestlers should be able assault referees or ring attendants, without punishment?

This is a problem that applies primarily to the House of Torture.   No other heels take advantage of the referee as much as they do.  This inconsistency is ridiculous.

With that said, I liked SHO’s performance.  He sold the pain when DOUKI applied the Italian Stretch No. 32.  He sold his jaw after the match when DOUKI hit him with his pipe earlier in the match.  SHO is becoming a good heel.  The ref bumps are not necessary.

Master Wato vs. YOH

Fast paced match. Wato went for a spring board attack and ate a super kick from YOH.  YOH stuns Wato with a neck breaker.

YOH pins Wato after hitting a Direct Driver.

Good match.  Both men looked sharp and it was a toss up as to who may win.  YOH looks to getting on a roll after falling behind early in the tournament.

BUSHI vs. El Phantasmo

ELP did his backflip entrance into the ring.  He fell to the mat holding his ankle.  Both men were evenly matched in the early moments.  ELP was still bothered by his ankle.    Until BUSHI came off the ropes and ELP super kicked him in the gut.   BUSHI went down in severe pain.  BUSHI fought back but ELP stomped on his foot and hand.   Pace picks up.  ELP goes for Sudden Death but BUSHI counters with a Code Breaker and a DDT.  Two count.   ELP hits a Styles Clash.  Two count. ELP hits a V-Trigger and goes for a One Winged Angel.  BUSHI reverses out and hits a Back Cracker.   BUSHI rolls up ELP in Terrible (a move he adopted from El Terrible in Mexico)  Two count.   BUSHI hits an MX.

BUSHI pins El Phantasmo.

Another good match.  They told a good story teasing ELP’s “injury” and could BUSHI avoid Sudden Death.

Robbie Eagles vs. El Desperado

These two men know each other well as they battled for the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship  earlier in the year.  Eagles arm dragged Desperado, who fell to the floor.  Eagles came through the ropes with a tope con hilo, which hit Desperado and both men smashed the guardrails, which also hit the Japanese announcer table.   Poor Milano Collection AT took a bump.   Eagles got Desperado back in the ring and had the advantage.   Desperado fought back and applied Numero Dos.  Eagles got free and trapped Desperado in the Ron Miller Special.  Desperado with a rope break.   Both men reversed out of each other’s finishers.    Awesome stuff here.   Eagles hit a Sliced Bread No.2 and set up Desperado for the Turbo Backpack.   Desperado reversed out and trapped Eagles in El Es Culero.

Desperado pins Eagles.

Desperado points to his Title belt and tells Eagles “Anytime!”, essentially inviting him to challenge for the Championship.

Great match!  Both men knew the tricks of the other.  Both are so focused on their submission finishers that they knew how to counter or reverse out.  It came down to one taking advantage of a mistake and getting  a quick pinfall.  If you are able, please check out the Eagles vs. Desperado matches during 2021 on New Japan World.

Hiromu Takahashi vs. Taiji Ishimori

Quick start to this match with both men using their speed to get an advantage.   Ishimori get the advantage with an arm whip which hyper extended Hiromu’s left arm.   Ishimori smashed a chair into the arm.  Pace slowed as Ishimori went to work on the arm.  Hiromu fought back with one arm.  He used his legs to trap Ishimori in a triangle choke.   Ishimori gets out and gets Hiromu in a Yes Lock.   Hiromu gets the rope break.  They both start brawling.   Ishimori throws Hiromu shoulder  first into the ringpost.  He hits a shoulder breaker.   Ishimori goes for a La  Mistica but Hiromu reverses into a Dynamite Plunger.  They go through a series of crazy reversals till Ishimori gets a La Mistica and applies the Bone Lock.

Hiromu taps out to a the Bone Lock.

Wow!   Great match.  The speed of both men.  Chain wrestling.  The reversals.  Just awesome stuff.
