AAW Pro Wrestling:  The Windy City Classic XVI Report

Friday November 26, 2021 - 115 Bourbon Street Merrionette Park, IL

1.  Contenders Match:  Christi Jaynes defeated Sierra, Charli Evans (AAW Debut) and Lady Frost when Jaynes pinned Evans to become the top contender for the Women's Championship (5:02)

2.  The Last Real Man Silas Young defeated Manders with a handful of tights.  Manders was able to go toe to toe with former AAW Heavyweight Champion Silas Young.  However, as Manders went for his Iowa Stampede power slam, Silas rolled through and held onto Manders' tights for a tainted victory. (8:52)

3.  AAW Women's Championship Match:  Skye Blue defeated Allysin Kay to become the seventh AAW Women’s Champion.  A lovely championship match which saw AK jump Blue during ring introductions.  Blue held her own with the veteran AK, however Sierra (who interrupted AK’s promo earlier in the night) came in and superkicked AK leading to Skye hitting the code blue to win the championship (Kay fails in her sixth defense - 7:16)  After the match Christi Jaynes, Blue’s normal tag team partner come out to celebrate Skye’s biggest win of her career.  Only to punch Skye in her face as Jaynes friend Mr. Ren Jones came out on the stage clapping as he had recently been telling Jaynes she was better than “this.”  Heather Reckless attempted to run in to stop Jaynes' assault but Jaynes took care of her.  Eventually Storm Grayson came in to run Jones & Jaynes off.

4.  LADDER Match - winner picks any AAW Championship match of his choosing:  SCHAFF defeated Jake Lander, Brayden Lee, Storm Grayson, Hartenbower, Jah-C, Gringo Loco and Mr. Ren Jones.  Total car crash show worth going out of your way to see.

Yup, scary times!  Other scary scenes included Jah-C powerbombing Brayden Lee off the top of the ladder, a piledriver by Storm Grayson to Jake Lander after the latter was put on the ring apron to the guard rail, Jake Lander climbing an upside down ladder and diving to the outside.  In this time of .gif wrestling clips - this was plentiful.   Finish came as SCHAFF went to the top and now has a contract to face any AAW Champion of his choosing   (22:52)

5.  Bourbon Street Fight:  Ace Austin & Myron Reed defeated  AAW Heritage Champion Hakim Zane & Karam when Austin pinned Karam after the fold.  As nuts as the last match was - this was equally nuts due to the hatred these four have for each other.  Zane and Karam pushed down Austin’s girlfriend Gia Miller two shows ago, and Myron and Zane have had a heated rivalry for some time over the AAW Heritage Championship.  This got wild with chairs, doors, traffic signs and various pieces of plunder.  In the end both Myron and Ace looked at the Heritage Belt and each other as they both have their sights on Zane’s Heritage gold. (16:18)

6.  Russ Jones (with Chuck Smooth) defeated Larry D.  Russ remains undefeated after this big man battle.  Larry D gave Russ a challenge but Russ used his big knee to the back to knock out Larry D for the victory. (11:25)

7.  AAW Tag Team Championship Match:  Hammerstone & Ace Perry defeated Jake Something & Dante Leon to win the AAW Tag Team Championship in a shocking upset.  The new team of Perry and Hammerstone shocked the #AAWFAMILY as Perry said the “third times the charm” (referring to old partners he’s had) as he’s found someone to truly watch his back.  A fine tag team contest with two beefy boys and two young upstarts.  Great stuff.  Ace Perry hit a flying cutter off the second rope to Dante Leon to win the championships.  (Something/Leon fail in their second defense - 13:37)

8. AAW Heavyweight Championship Contenders Match: Rich Swann defeated Davey Vega,  Josh Alexander and Brody King to become the number one contender when Swann pinned Vega after a cutter and twisting splash to become the number one contender to the AAW Heavyweight Championship.  Great match considering the talent in this match - and Davey Vega!  After the match Swann noted he would face whoever win the AAW Heavyweight Championship at AAW Unstoppable on Thursday Night December 30 at the Logan Square Auditorium (9:56)

9.  AAW Heavyweight Championship Match:  GvnSlinger Mat Fitchett defeated The Savageweight Fred Yehi to become the 31st AAW Heavyweight Champion.  Fitchett started in AAW ten years ago to the date (AAW Windy City Classic VII) and after winning the Jim Lynam Memorial Tournament in October <defeating Jake Something, ACH,SCHAFF (SCHAFF’s first loss), and Josh Alexander in the finals> was poised for this moment.  This was a brutal war of attrition, both men laid into each other and the scars on their chests will be there for some time.  Yehi was dominant, keeping Fitchett on the mat and hitting various submissions only to have Fitchett keep on making rope breaks.  The Savageweight showed why he is one of the top grapplers in the world here.  But Fitchett would keep on making comebacks on Yehi.  Fitchett hit his knee strike for a 2.95 count.  Both men were stumbling from the punishment, Fitchett went for a suplex, Yehi escaped and hit a backfist, and attempted a suplex of his own but got rolled up for an inside cradle for the win.    Yes, the GvnSlinger defeated the Savageweight with a wrestling move on the ground.  An amazing match and a great moment. (Yehi fails in his sixth defense - 21:16)  After the match, Fitchett’s longtime tag team partner Davey Vega came out to the stage and looked at his former “bestie.”  The crowd wasn’t sure what was going to happen.  Was Vega out there to congratulate him or to beat him down? We didn’t find out as SCHAFF hit Vega from behind and came into the ring. SCHAFF wants the AAW Championship and also a piece of Fitchett after the loss in the JLMT.  As SCHAFF and the new champ went nose to nose, a still shocked Fred Yehi got up and got into SCHAFF’s face.  SCHAFF decked Fitchett and then got decked by Yehi.  Vega came into the ring as Yehi-SCHAFF fought on the outside of the ring.  Then the former Besties In the World were alone in the ring.  Davey Vega and the new AAW Heavyweight Champion Mat Fitchett went nose to nose until #1 contender Rich Swann came in and gave Vega a cutter and got in Fitchett’s face saying he wanted the AAW Heavyweight Championship. AAW Returns to the Logan Square Auditorium and FITE TV for UNSTOPPABLE 2021 on Thursday Night December 30th. Talent and ticket information to be released shortly.
