TOP MOBILE GAMES IN KENYA: REVIEWS AND RATINGS

By Kendall Jenkins on 2021-11-15 06:43:00

Mobile games are very popular in Kenya and continue to enjoy explosive growth. Experts in the industry say this can be attributed to the recent increase in the number of mobile phones used in the country. According to a digital report in the year 2020, mobile connections in the country reached about 52.06 million in January, just before the pandemic hit. The report further showed that this figure represented about 98% of the entire Kenyan population, currently making Kenya the leading African country when it comes to the mobile internet and telecommunications industry generally. Consequently, mobile games became popular amongst adults and the young with the demand increasing with lockdown during the pandemic.

The mobile games industry has grown over the years, talking of quality, style, features, and popularity since its emergence in the year 2000 on Nokia devices. It keeps attracting the attention of mobile games lovers in Kenya. Currently, way over the league of console games, the mobile gaming market has evolved to be one of the biggest revenue generators for the Kenyan government. The industry has also created millions of jobs and it serves as a form of tax revenue as well.

In the spirit of mobile games, one particular game that also came with mobile phones is the mobile online casinos games. Unlike other nations across the world, particularly in the African continent, every form of gambling has been legalized since 1966. Local casinos were built thereafter and the rise in the industry has also evolved since then. We can't overlook the fact that the invention of mobile phones gave room for the emergence of online mobile casino apps and online casinos at large.

Candy Crush

Candy Crush tops the chart. Statistics on the Google Play store show that the game has about 500 million downloads across the world and over 26 million reviews in Kenya. Seems pretty much like an old classic, but it is still very popular amongst Kenyans for so many reasons. First, it is pretty much to get started and get sucked in with all the attractive features, particularly the satisfying sensation that comes with sugary food. Second, Kenyans love that this game can be played on pretty much any mobile device, from the rage of the Sony Xperia brand to even old android models passed down from the older generation, as well as PC and even on the internet.

Candy Crush is also loved because it is socially cohesive. Players can play the game and compete alongside Facebook friends which makes it more fun and quite addictive.

Call of Duty

This particular game is most popular amongst the male population of Kenya, mostly because of the way it is designed. Call of Duty competes with PUBG in the mobile internet arena. The mobile version came out in 2019 and was recorded to have had 100 million downloads in just one week all over the world. In the game, a player drops to an unknown island with a parachute and works alongside other players to defeat the opponents in the game.

The game also allows for the use of weapons and ammunition in the several battle modes featured in the game. It is quite enjoyable and brain-tasking.

PUBG (Players Unknown Battle Ground)

The above abbreviation stands for Player’s Unknown Battle Ground, and it is very similar to Call of Duty. Just recently, a trend of Interactive Multiple Player games became popular in Kenya and The PUBG game is one of the most played in this category.

This game also requires players to team up with three other players in the game, get to an island via a parachute, and battle opponents. However, a unique feature of PUBG is that characters in the game can be personalized. A player can pick out items such as outfits just before starting the game or from defeated opponents while playing the game.

In Kenya, players of PUBG have an online community where new players interact via their social media handles.

Mobile Casino Games

Betting is legal in Kenya and casinos are licensed, plus, coupled with the advanced features including mobile phones a lot of gamblers have resorted to mobile casino gambling. Online casinos have also capitalized on this to register and make available mobile casino games for players to play and earn real money. These mobile casino games are gaining prominence in Kenya as they offer players means of making money while having fun.

Most of these online games are compatible with android and iOS devices and some of them have their apps as well. Some of the popular online casinos include Betway, Ruby, Jackpot City, Casino Cruise, Fortune, and Spin Palace.
