WRESTLEMANIA SHOWDOWN FOR DREW MCINTYRE AND TYSON FURY?

By Kendall Jenkins on 2021-07-30 08:41:00

Drew McIntyre and Tyson Fury have teased wrestling fans that a showdown between the British pair could be possible in the near future. They were expected to meet earlier this year, but those plans could now be transferred across to 2022.

The two men have had some heated exchanges on social media, with McIntyre claiming Fury is “stalking him” online. The heavyweight boxer has also argued he can take down the former WWE champion with ease.

McIntyre has been a big hit with the WWE since winning Royal Rumble in 2020. His stock remains very high so a clash with the WBC heavyweight champion would be a storyline that would generate a lot of interest.

The Chosen One is without a major belt at this moment in time as he lost the WWE title to The Miz at Elimination Chamber back in February. He then failed to beat Bobby Lashley at WrestleMania 37.

Fury Has Trilogy with Wilder to Complete First

Before he can make a return to the WWE, Fury has a trilogy with Deontay Wilder to complete. He is contracted to face the American boxer in October where his WBC crown will be on the line.

In their first contest back in 2018, the two men drew following 12 pulsating rounds in Vegas. Fury was dropped to the canvas twice in that fight, including in the final round. He got off the floor to beat the referee’s count to avoid the first defeat of his professional career.

The Gypsy King was much more clinical in his second fight with Wilder. He dominated it from the opening bell and stopped his opponent in the seventh round of the fight to a world title for the second time in his career.

There was talk about Fury meeting Anthony Joshua in a unification contest for all four belts in the division, however, he was legally obligated to fight Wilder for a third time. He is the -334 favorite in the boxing betting for the third installment of the trilogy. Victory again would be enough to end that rivalry with the Dark Destroyer.

Fury Did Not Look Out of Place In WWE

One of the reasons Fury is so popular with boxing and wrestling fans is that he is a big character. As we have seen in press conferences prior to his fights, he is very comfortable in front of the camera and with a mic in his hand.

Fury has dressed up as Batman, treated the audience to a rendition of some of his favorite songs and has really got under his opponent’s skin. All these things fit perfectly with the WWE so he was able to make a seamless transition.

Inside the ring, Fury also impressed wrestling fans. His training prior to his match with Braun Strowman paid off. He did not look out of place and he seemed to really enjoy the experience at Crown Jewel in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Hopefully, we will see Fury back in the WWE in 2022. The chance to perform at WrestleMania may be too big to turn down for the wrestling fan. McIntyre would be a great opponent for him and it is a contest that would light up the greatest show in the sport.
