FORMER WCW STAR TO MAKE AEW DEBUT NEXT WEEK, ALL TIME GREAT AT DYNAMITE IN NC, CHICAGO TICKETS AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2021-07-28 22:02:00

AEW went off the air tonight with MJF announcing that former WCW and WWE star Juventud Guerrera would make his AEW debut next week, taking on Chris Jericho in the third "Labor of Jericho" challenge.  They noted it would be the first time in 15 years that Guerrera wrestled on TNT.  The idea is to play off of their old WCW rivalry.

Tickets for the 8/20 AEW debut at the United Center in Chicago will officially go on sale this Monday.    In regard to rumors that Tony Khan and the EVPS were at the United Center shooting promos over the weekend, there is absolutely nothing to that story.

As if AEW needed another CM Punk tease, the first line of MJF's show closing promo paraphrased the opening line of CM Punk's infamous Pipebomb promo.   While we have not heard Punk is 100% signed, the plan is to deliver on that tease, not swerve anyone, we are told.

Cash Wheeler suffered a legitimate arm injury during FTR vs. Santana and Ortiz tonight.  PWInsider.com is working to confirm the nature of the injury, which occurred when he struck the metal connecting the ring post to the turnbuckle while being knocked off the ropes.

Tonight's event in Charlotte, NC was sold out.

There is already talk that Nick Gage's appearance tonight was not a one-off.

All-time great David Crockett was backstage at tonight's Dynamite taping:

New Japan's Hiroshi Tanahashi popped up on Dynamite tonight:

Jon Moxley's promo later in the show made it clear that the plan was Tanahashi vs. Moxley down the line.
