IS PEACOCK WORTH IT, AEW GETTING THEIR OWN NETWORK, IS THEIR TOO MUCH WRESTLING TO CONSUME AND MORE

If this wasn’t you job, would you still have The WWE Network?

Yes, I would.  It’s worth $5 a month to me just to see NXT UK.  Seriously, it is.

Would AEW benefit from having their own network or a streaming partner like HBO Max? They don’t monetize their shows with DVD releases, but I think fans would pay a monthly fee to relive some of the earlier shows and PPV events.

It depends.  If they could have someone pay them for the content, like Peacock is doing for WWE, that makes sense.  I don’t think, with the limited amount of content that they have now, that it makes sense to take on the cost themselves right now, especially when they generate good revenues from their PPVs and they would have to make them a part of the Network.

Related to my previous question, do you think AEW misses the boat when it comes to documentaries for some of their talent? A lot of WWE fans know all about their stars, but AEW stars are still unknown to some wrestling fans and a documentary on Eddie Kingston, Darby Allin or Orange Cassidy could be a great way to boost their profiles.

There is only so much time and so many resources.  Documentaries are time and labor intensive.  With the TV time they have now, both on TNT and YouTube, they can do all of the character development that they need to in my opinion.

Is AEW’s new show two hours? And, the way AEW eats a lot of time with a lot of wrestling action, is it necessarily a bad thing to have an increased amount of time to put additional talent over since it looks like the shows will operate on an unofficial brand split based on Cody Rhodes’ comments. This means you won’t see duplicate stars on each show, right?

AEW Rampage is set to debut on Fridays at 10 p.m. in August.  It will be an hour long.  I will wait and see what the content will be before commenting.

Do only hardcore fans have a problem with deciding how to navigate so many hours of wrestling? When I was younger in NYC, we had three hours of syndicated WWE TV, AWA on WPIX, NWA twice a week on U68, World Class twice a week on U68, California Championship Wrestling on U68 and UWF on U68. Plus some Saturday Night’s Main Events. That’s a lot of wrestling. You watch what you want and skip what you don’t. I watch the inflated Dark and Elevations in 30 minutes, paying attention to some enhancement talent and ignoring others. Even on Dynamite, I will skip a tag-team match with Cody and Lee Johnson because they aren’t a real team and I will skip squash matches and ring introductions. You can find time for it all and have a better experience if you don’t watch it live and filter out the crap.

If so it’s only because casual fans watch way less wrestling than hardcore fans.  One thing you need to consider is when you were a kid, there were limited options to watch.  You had a much smaller amount of programming to choose from and depending on your age, like if you are as old as me, as a kid you had to watch things in real time.  VCRs weren’t even around yet.  Now?  It’s much different with both options to watch and ways to watch shows.
