FORMER ROH CHAMPION CLOSE TO RETURNING TO RING FOR FIRST TIME IN YEARS

By Oliver Taylor on 2021-04-06 21:23:00

Former Impact Wrestling and Ring of Honor star Davey Richards is close to agreeing to a deal to make his long-awaited wrestling return with Global Syndicate Wrestling, according to a source involved in the negotiations.

GSW is set to hold its second ever show, Catalyst, in the Knight of Columbus venue in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, on May 22. If an agreement is reached, Richards would make his return at the show but the deal has not been finalised and no official announcement has been made.

Richards took a hiatus from wrestling in 2017 to become a doctor but never returned due to repeated knee surgeries. He chronicled his full experience on Twitter last November, which can be read about here.

Tickets for GSW Catalyst are available to purchase via Eventbrite here. Front row tickets cost $50 while general admission tickets are $25. Masks are required at all times and social distancing is enforced.

Matches set for the event include Alexander Hammerstone attempting his first defense of the GSW World Championship against Chris Dickinson, Jacob Fatu versus Michael Elgin and the start of GSW’s Global Cup women’s tournament. The show will air on FITE and is available to purchase for $14.99 here.

Richards is best known as a former ROH World Championship holder and for winning the Impact World Tag Team Championships, then known as the TNA World Tag Team Championships, six times with Eddie Edwards. His last wrestling appearance was at Coastal Zone Wrestling’s EVILution show on July 8, 2017, losing the CZW World Heavyweight Championship and DEFY World Championship to Shane Strickland in a four-way match.
