On the recent episode of the AIW podcast, The Card is Going to Change, AIW owner John Thorne and host Steve Guy announced details for the upcoming AIW: Go for Broke.
John Thorne said that AIW was courted to run an event in Tampa during Mania Week, but decided that the AIW return would have to occur in the Cleveland area.
So instead of a live event from the Tampa area, wrestling fans will get the premiere episode of a new weekly, hour-long series, Go for Broke.
Debuting Thursday, April 8, on IWTV at 6pm, Go for Broke will feature AIW wrestlers attempting to earn Biggins Bucks to buy their way into the Chandler Biggins Cup tournament. The winner of the Biggins Cup will then receive a title shot at an AIW championship of their choice. The twist of the series is that the wrestlers will not know when the tournament will begin, so they will want to earn as many Biggins Bucks as quickly as possible, theoretically heightening the stakes for every match. Given Thorne’s affinity for MTV’s The Challenge, there also seems to have an aspect of reality competition shows in addition to wrestling.
Thorne would not announce the competitors, preferring to keep them a secret. Thorne mentioned, however, the wrestlers were volunteering to compete, but AIW would be advertising each wrestler’s Venmo/CashApp, allowing viewers to tip or sponsor the wrestlers directly throughout the series.
After the Thursday debut, Go for Broke will air on IWTV Tuesdays at 10pm. They have at least eight weeks of programming planned, with the hope that the show would create momentum for the eventual live return for AIW.
