Beyond Wrestling “Signature Series: Episode 1”

12/25/21 - Streaming on IWTV.LIVE

Like the hashtag says: BEYOND IS BACK. Can’t lie: It fells really good to write the header for an article about new Beyond Wrestling content. Tonight kicks off the 6-part “Signature Series”. This will be a combination of two staple Beyond Wrestling traditions: The Greatest Rivals Round Robin and the Tournament For Tomorrow. The lineup for the GRRR consists of Chris Dickinson, Tony Deppen, Matt Makowski and Wheeler Yuta. This iteration of TFT features some awesome indy tandems in Milk Chocolate, The Rep, Shook Crew, The Bird & The Bee, The Nouveau Aesthetic, Mike Verna & Rex Lawless, 40 Acres, and Faith In Nothing. Other non-tournament matches will feature throughout the series. Beyond owner Denver Colorado (the man, not the place) is your host. Rich Palladino is your announcer. Paul Crockett and his #1 fan, Sidney Bakabella, are on commentary.

“Big Breakfast” Jordan Oliver vs “The Afropunk” Trish Adora

Oliver has his shoulder taped up, likely still worn down from that 2-hour Ironman match against Tony Deppen at Fight Forever. Adora works it IMMEDIATELY. Oliver trying to escape and work the legs. Oliver with a snap suplex for two and wrenching the neck and shoulder for Adora. Adora escapes several times but Oliver stays ahead. An up kick sends Adora to the buckle headfirst. Oliver is stalking with kicks and not going for the cover. He loosens the shoulder tape, which gives Adora the opportunity to land some shot. Flying knee to the back reversal from Oliver and he dropkicks her to the outside. Sidewalk slam for another two. Adora with a back elbow reversal, eats shots but hits a high crossbody for two. Adora with a running blockbuster and locks in a cattle mutilation but Oliver gets his limbs to the rope. Adora lifted to the ropes but she kicks off, driving his shoulder into the match. She butterflies his arms, Jordan is in pain but he fights up and locks in a Boston Crab....he can’t hold it! Adora kicks out! Trading forearms, Oliver with a superkick but walks into a Lariat Tubman for the pin!

Winner: Trish Adora

Awesome way to kick this series off. They told a great story around Oliver’s shoulder and Adora working her way back from the bottom.

Tournament For Tomorrow Quarterfinal: 40 Acres (Pretty Boy Smooth & Tre LaMar) vs The Rep (Nate Carter & Dave McCall)

Carter and Smooth just start decking each other, all aggression. Great energy. Tre in with McCall, out speeds the taller man to work the shoulder. McCall catches him with a spinning leg lariat and the ref is checking on him. Smooth with a cheap shot while the ref is occupied. 40 Acres working over McCall and keeping a frustrated Nate Carter stuck in his corner, shouting to his teammate. Tre with dropkick to the face for two. Carter with the hot tag, wipes out everyone. Lariat turns LaMar inside out. Smooth hit with a DVD blockbuster. They kill LaMar but he’s not the legal man. Carter dumped. McCall booted in the face, hit with a powerbomb/frog splash combo for the win!

Winner: 40 Acres

This is exactly what I wanted from this match. Two teams just looking to beat the hell out of each other. Great energy, super aggressive. 40 Acres comes off as the clever, more resourceful tandem here. The Rep still rules. Good s***.

Greatest Rivals Round Robin Match 1: “Dirty Daddy” Chris Dickinson vs Tony Deppen

Apparently, it’s cold in this venue. We have an Uncharted Territory rematch, Deppen looking to get one back against the Dirty Daddy. Deppen surprisingly outworking Dickinson on the mat in the opening minutes here. Dickinson using his strength to stay out of danger but Tony is all over him. Dickinson gets the ankle, forcing a stalemate. Dickinson fires up but Deppen is ready for the charge, sending Dickinson to the mat with arm drags and back into the arm lock. Deppen with kicks and ripping at the arm. Dickinson catches Deppen in a mistake with a pair of dragon screws, goes for the STF but Deppen immediately to the rope. That second wind of the Dirty Daddy kicks in and goes to work on Deppen. Tony slips the Pazuzu Bomb, hits an enziguri and a codebreaker but Dickinson is out. Deppen back to the arm but Dickinson slams out of it. He locks in the ankle lock. Deppen out and gets the armbar . Dickinson out. Deppen dodges the spinning back kick. Deppen with a running forearm to the back of the head. Kick out! Deppen back to destroying that arm. Dickinson tries the DVD but Deppen slips back to the arm bar. Dickinson out, hits a snap german into a deeeeeeep STF. Deppen is forced to tap!

Winner: Chris Dickinson

Well, THAT was fantastic. Deppen worked so hard to stay ahead of Dickinson throughout this contest. It was clear he had a game plan and knew his opponent. Dickinson’s explosiveness was the key here, finding that opening and finally getting the W here. Heck of a main event and hopefully a sign of 5 more great matches to come in the GRRR.

And that’s it for Episode 1 of Beyond’s “Signature Series”! Beyond has been on hiatus since the summer and clearly didn’t want to put out a lower quality product that they would have to blame on the quarantimes. They bided their time and this was a great return. The wrestlers were at the apron the whole show, like a normal Beyond crowd should be and ACTIVE. This had great energy match to match and I truly can’t want for the next 5 weeks of content, leading up to Beyond’s show at IWTV’s Showcase of the Independents in Tampa on Wrestlemania weekend. 3 matches over about 50 minutes. This was tight and had great flow. An easy recommend so if you want to watch this (or the other upcoming episodes....or like, ALL THE WRESTLING), sign up for IWTV.LIVE (Promo Code: BEYOND). Also, you can go to Shopiwtv.com for all your Beyond merch needs. Next week’s card is: Aaron Rourke vs Delmi Exo, The Nouveau Aesthetic vs Shook Crew & Wheeler Yuta vs Matt Makowski. Until then!
