The Miz pinned Drew McIntyre to win the WWE Championship after cashing in his Money In the Bank briefcase after McIntyre had survived and won an Elimination Chamber match.
Bobby Lashley, angered by the loss of his United States Title earlier in the evening, attacked McIntyre and destroyed him after the match, leaving McIntyre easy prey for The Miz.
Miz, who had claimed pre-pandemic that if he wasn't WWE Champion by Wrestlemania 37, he would retire (see below; he stated this when the show was going to be held in his current hometown of Los Angeles) kicks off his second reign. Miz previously held the title for 160 days in 2010-2011.
"Wrestlemania is going Hollywood next year. If I don’t Main Event...I quit."
