COMPLETE AEW DYNAMITE BLOG

By Anthony Pires on 2021-01-27 20:05:00

We are BACK at Dailey's Place. Jim Ross warns us that a slobber knocker is kicking us off and he's not kidding.  Eddie Kingston vs Lance Archer.  This should be a hell of a brawl but the logic here is flawed.  Eddie Kingston's argument is that he was never eliminated from the #1 contenders battle royal.  He has a point except HE GOT THE TITLE SHOT ANYWAYS, as did Archer.  Issue resolved.  For as much as I've praised the long term storytelling AEW had done in the past, I can't understand how this story didn't get tightened up.  Archer sent Jake Roberts to the back.  Week by week, Jake's presence is getting diminished.  Would not surprise me to see these two go their own ways sooner rather than later.

MAN those chops sound like they hurt. Speaking of hurt, Eddie just got chokeslammed on the edge of the apron.  That'll cost him a hip someday.  This is all Archer so far and Kingston is taking a beating.  Archer is definitely getting better at finding the camera.  Archer blocks a desperation backfist and Eddie knows he's in trouble.  I really like both these guys.  AEW has been very conservative throughout its existence with disqualifications.  Tonight, in my opinion, would be a good time to use.  Both these guys haven't gotten a big win in a while and a loss really puts loser behind the 8-ball in terms of credibility.  And here comes Butcher and Blade, with a beaten down Jake Roberts in tow.  Bunny hands Eddie an international object and the spinning backfist wins it for Kingston.

Of course, The Kingston Family beats down Archer, so one makes the save.  That I like.  Archer shouldn't be a position to be rescued.  We have a Young Bucks 8 man tag main event, that means YOU get bullet points.  Jon Moxley joins us from the parking lot and has some serious (as do I) suspicion about the intentions of the Young Bucks.  Moxley informs us of his enjoyment of morning sex.  Hey, he said it, I'm just commenting on it.  Moxley will replace Penta in 2 weeks to team with Fenix and Pac against Omega and the Good Brothers.

Darby Allin and Sting are in an alley with some words of warning for Team Taz.  The Crow version of Sting worked so so so so so so so great when he was silently brooding.  Sting and Darby declare themselves hoodlums and break some windows.  Yeah, the buildup for this has been abysmal at best, and I place zero blame on the wrestlers.  Team Taz has been booked horrifically up until this point.  This better be cinematic at Revolution.

MJF and Jericho vs the Varsity Blonds is next.  Anyone want to bet the Blonds are made to look equal against the Inner Circle's "official" tag team?  JR with the observation that MJF is so punchable.  I admit I appreciate Pillman and Griff Garrison starting to wear matching outfits. Gives them a little more oomph, a little more credibility as an up and coming team.  Pretty early on we go to picture in picture, which may be the very first time Tony Schiavone got the duty of calling it.  I'm real glad AEW doesn't have the announcers telegraph it anymore.  It forces me, as the viewer, to pay attention.

We're back. I want to slightly retract something from earlier when I sarcastically asked if the Blondes would look like equals here.  Jericho and MJF aren't presented as killers and Garrison and Pillman aren't presented as jobbers that can't ever hang, so I am actually somewhat pleased that the Blondes are getting that 198  And here 7 Jim Powers and Paul Roma push, the upstart babyfaces who get the occasional TV win but always fall short against the "stars".  To this day, I maintain the Young Stallions could have been huge.  Jericho pins Garrison off a Judas Effect and a Lionsault, no doubt thumbing his nose at the critics last week when he landed essentially on his head.

Inner Circle gather together.  MJF seems to want to "smooth" things over with Sammy but we get a middle finger salute instead.

Pac lets us know he wants Omega bad.

We see footage from earlier at the AEW awards when Shaq challenged and called out Cody.  And right on cue, here comes the Prince of Pro Wrestling to respond.  I've got a cool dollar that Jade will ruin this segment.  Schiavone has a heavier coat on the the wind is whipping. I never realized how cold Jacksonville gets in the winter.  Cody was planning on accepting for a Mixed tag but life got in the way.  I appreciate the "Baby Daddy" chant from the crowd. Cody defers to Arn Anderson, who admits he chewed Cody out last week.  Double A has the mic and this is always money, can't wait for Cargill to ruin this.  Arn tells a sentimental story about Dusty flying cross country to witness Cody's birth.

Arn calls for Red Velvet to come on down.  Arn puts her over as having fire.  She grabs the mic and cuts a hell of a promo.  Seriously, this is good.  She storms off.  Seems like she's accepted the mixed tag.  Cargill did not ruin it.  I owe you $1.

We get a preview of the Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford video hyping their wedding for Beach Break.  I, for one, am very curious as to how well AEW will pull this off.  Nuptuals in wrestling are usually bad at best.  I wish them luck.

Adam Page vs Ryan Ziggler...errrrrr...Nemeth is up next.  Everybody watching this knows who Nemeth is and who is brother is.  He's in there with Page.  By the time I finish writing this sentence, this should be over.  It's not.  I'm so afraid that they're going to give Nemeth 10-15 minutes here just to rub it in to WWE.  And here comes Matt Hardy to do some scouting.  He's applauding Nemeth, who is getting offense and 2 counts here.  Now he's applauding Page.  Nemeth kicks out of a lariat.  Not a Buckshot, mind you, but a lariat nonetheless.  Spike DDT by Nemeth.  This is doing zilch for Page.  Now we get the buckshot lariat for the pin.  Matt Hardy approves.  Tony Schiavone comes out again for some investigative journalism.  Big Money Matt wants to sign Page. Schiavone thinks it's a good fit.

Dax Harwood vs Jungle Boy is up next.  This, ladies and gentlemen, should be excellent.  Jack Perry is on the rise.  I think he has amazing upside.  I have ZERO issue with this being competitive.  Perry is going to be a star.  Cash Wheeler and Tully Blanchard will be handcuffed to Luchasaurus.  I was very lucky recently to sit under the Dax Harwood learning tree last Sunday as we watched a classic Takeover match between the Rivival and American Alpha.  Harwood is so smart and Perry is coming along very very nicely.  It's a pretty humorous visual of Tully and Cash trying to get closer but can't budge Luchasaurus.  Here's what I like about this: Both these guys are part of a full time tag team.  By virtue of this, a singles match between the two can go either way.  To be honest, this right here would be a perfect opportunity to Perry to get a nice signature win on National TV, wouldn't hurt FTR at all.

We're back from glorious picture in picture and we're going slow.  Our commentators are having a good showing here. I almost wish they stuck with the original plan where no one would be at ringside.  As they keep going to the handcuffed men at ringside, we know, at some point, this will come into play.  Jungle Boy comes oh so close to the win before Dax gets a 2 and 3/4 with a slingshot Doctor Bomb, which JR described a gruesomely beautiful.  A series of very smooth rollups and Perry hooks on the snare trap.  Great showing by both guys and a huge feather in Perry's cap.

Of course this would not be complete without the requisite FTR beatdown, including a spike piledriver on Luchasaurus.  FTR cuts the horns off of Luchasaurus' mask before SCU and Marko Stunt make the save.

Team Taz beats down the merchandise guys in the parking lot.  One of them even gets lawn darted into the TNT truck.

Dr. Britt Baker vs. Portugal's Perfect Athlete (from France), Shanna.  Reba is very quick to fix the good doctor's makeup.  In a perfect world, this should be pretty good.  Baker's not at that elite in-ring level yet.  I do enjoy her in the ring and Shanna has always looked impressive.  Reba pulls a nice distraction, allowing Dr. Baker to nail a sling blade on the outside.  Reba, or it is Rebel, the announcers keep going back and forth.  Nice touch with Reba fixing Shanna's makeup as she's getting beaten in the corner.  Nice aggression by Baker, she is really comfortable as the heel now.  She finishes this with the lockjaw.  A nice added touch was that she looked for the camera and mockingly put Shanna in a better position so it would look better on TV.  Thunder Rosa makes the post match save.

Sammy Guevara and MJF are backstage. Max tries his innocent bystander routine and Sammy is having none of it.  These 2 are clearly on a collision course.  We get a preview of Beach Break, which honestly doesn't have the oomph of a Fight for the Fallen or Fyter Fest.  Kind of just looks like a normal themed episode of Dynamite.

Dasha's got the Good Brothers and the Young Bucks.  They're joined by Kenny Omega and Don Callis, who get into it with the Bucks over last weeks incident.  Our main event is the Good Brother and the Young Bucks against the Dark Order.  Unpopular opinion: I just don't see "it" in Gallows and Anderson.  They're talented, I get it, no issues with that and I know they were big deals in Japan.  WWE was long accused to misusing them.  However, I subscribe to New Japan World, I saw these guys at their best. I attended a ton of WWE house shows where they were featured.  I just don't see tippy top guys there.  He goes nose-to-navel with John Silver, who isn't backing down.  Safe to say at this point the Dark Order are now lovable babyfaces.

Obviously the story they need to tell here is another "will the Bucks turn heel or not", so the Dark Order is going to end up being the fodder, unless they steal one form the pairs of world tag team champions.  We make a VERY late commercial break.  We come back and things have.  Evil Uno blocks a superkick and HANDS the leg of Nick Jackson to the referee.  I hate that spot.  Kills referee credibility, not that Rick Knox has any.  A Magic Killer and a Meltzer Driver wins this one for the "Club"

Matt Jackson reminds us that the winner of next week's tag team battle royal gets a title shot at Revolution.  If the Bucks win, they get to pick their opponents.  Rey Fenix takes out the Bucks and Gallows and Anderson take care of it.  Jon Moxley takes out the Good Brothers.  Kenny Omega tries a sneak attack and gets Paradigm Shifted for his efforts.
