The 2020 Best Of's are behind us as ROH kicks off with the closing moments of 2 key matches from Final Battle: Jonathan Gresham's victory over Flip Gordon to retain the ROH Pure Title and Dragon Lee's TV Title retention over Tony Deppen.
Quinn McKay welcomes us to tonight's show and reveals the top 5 contenders to the ROH TV Title
1. Rey Horus
2. Tony Deppen
3. Dak Draper
4. Kenny King
5. LSG
Quinn tells us that the ROH Board of Directors will be mandating a raking system in each division of ROH. Currently the top 5 contenders to the Pure title are:
1. Tracey Williams
2. Flip Gordon
3. Josh Woods
4. Rhett Titus
5. Fred Yehi
Anyone in the top 3 is in line for a title shot at their respective title at any time at the board's discretion.
Quinn tells us that Matt Taven and Vincent are banned from being in the same building with each other for the time being. Excellent intro by Ms. McKay to really set the tone for 2021. Maria Bennett plugs #CHOOSEYOURHONOR. The Experience returns this January.
We get pre match comments from Rhett Titus and Flip Gordon ahead of their Pure Match. Since joining up with the Foundation, Titus appears so comfortable as a personality. Gordon does explain away his failure to adhere to the Code of Honor at Final Battle as he saw no honor in a referee stoppage.
Ian Riccaboni and Caprice Coleman have the call tonight.
Flip Gordon vs. Rhett Titus (Pure Rules Match)
Code of Honor not adhered to as they lockup. Hammerlock by Titus and Gordon turns it into a headlock into a double chicken wing. Titus escapes and applies a headscissors. He cranks down hard. Gordon pops out. Test of strength, Titus takes him down for a 1 count and then a 2 count. Gordon throws him off. Titus with an abdominal stretch. Gordon with a hiptoss escape and a single leg trap. Crucifix reversal by Titus and Gordon uses his first rope break.
Gordon rolls out and Titus lures him back in and slaps on a bearhug. Gordon elbows out but Titus with a back elbow and a kneedrop for 2. Leglock surfboard by Titus, Gordon is blocking the full extension. Single leg into a half crab and Gordon uses rope break number two.
Five minutes have elapsed.
They exchange chops off of a lockup. Gordon gets thrown into the corner and Titus lands a flying forearm. Gordon with a hangman on the tope rope for a 1 count. Hard forearms by Gordon. Big superkick by Gordon, he stomps the hamstring. Gordon applies the figure fout for a 2 count a Titus uses his first rope break. Gordon with a neck vice and drops a knee for 1 as we go to commercial.
We're back and Titus with a dropkick and a HUGE boot to the face in the corner. Titus with a half crab and rocks all the way back.
Ten minutes have elapsed.
German suplex for 2 by Titus. Titus goes to work on the hamstring but Gordon with a kick to the jaw. Superkick by Gordon whilst balancing on the top rope. Suplex on the floor by Gordon. Gordon breaks the count and chops Titus across the face on the outside and throws him back in. Gordon mocks him and Titus with a surprise half crab out of nowhere. Gordon uses his final rope break. Titus with kicks to the hamstrings at the 13:00 mark. Flip escapes a German hits 2 superkicks for 2. Backslide for 2 by Titus. They exchange rollups. Punch to the face by Gordon for a warning. Curb stomp by Gordon. Gordon with a Flip 5 for the pin with under 30 seconds to go.
WINNER: Flip Gordon
Flip grabs Titus' hand and mocks the code of honor. GREAT match!
We get pre match comments from Rey Horus and Dragon Lee. Both men show amazing personality here. These packages are a huge highlight for me in terms of getting to know these guys.
ROH World TV Title: Dragon Lee (ROH World TV Title) vs Rey Horus (1/3 of the ROH World Six Man Tag Team Championship)
Lee is without Amy Rose or any member of La Faccion Ingobernoble. Horus with a tope con hillo off the bat into a high cross body and a DDT for 2. Lee rolls out and Horus follows. Chop by Horus and he sends the champion into the barricade. He throws Lee back in and Lee immediately hits a hurancanrana to the outside. Both men are down on the floor. Horus' back is already severely bruised. They exchange forearms on the floor and roll back in at 19 as we go commercial.
We're back and a leg sweep into a pendulum by Lee. Forearms by Lee in the corner, he moves to stomps. Bulls Horn for 2 by the champion. We're reminded by Ian that the match will move to Honor Club if this goes past TV time. Horus with a big dropkick. Le with a spin kick in the corner. Horus meets him on the top rope for a C4 for 2. Horus with a Gullotine, Lee tries a suplex. Horus lands behind Lee and Lee with a back elbow. Horus with a pump kick. Lee with a powerbomb for 2. Knee lift by Lee, Horus with a Destroyer for 2. Horus with chops and tries a top rope victory roll. Lee blocks and hits a double stomp for 2. Running Knee by Lee. He pulls down the kneepad and hits another incineration for the pin.
WINNER: Dragon Lee (retains championship)
Lee mocks Horus with the 6 man belt as we go to credits.
