We begin with a look back at last week's New Year's Evil.
We are at the Capitol Wrestling Centre and your announcers are Wade Barrett, Vic Joseph, and Beth Phoenix.
Match Number One: Shotzi Blackheart versus Candice LeRae (with Indi Hartwell)
Candice poses on the turnbuckles before the match and throws Shotzi's helmet to the floor.
Candice pie faces Shotzi and Shotzi with a double leg take down and punches. Shotzi misses a splash in the ropes and she holds on to the ropes to block a neck breaker from Candice. Shotzi with a kick and she goes up top and hits a cross body for a near fall. Shotzi with an arm bar and she rolls Candice around the ring and turns it into a Fujiwara arm bar. Candice gets a near fall. Shotzi holds on to the arm bar submission and Candice gets to the ropes to force a break.
Shotzi runs into a boot and Candice goes to the turnbuckles but Shotzi pulls Candice off the turnbuckles and Candice hits the turnbuckles. Shotzi gets a near fall. Shotzi with a head lock and bridge. Candice gets a near fall. Shotzi with a hammer lock and Candice backs Shotzi into the turnbuckles. Shotzi is sent to the apron by Candice and Candice with a forearm. Shotzi pulls Candice shoulder first into the turnbuckles. Shotzi with a drop kick off the apron. Indi gets between Shotzi and Candice. Candice gets back into the ring and hits a baseball slide followed by a moonsault off the apron. Candice kicks Shotzi when she returns to the ring. Shotzi with forearms to Candice.
Candice with a back elbow and she gets a near fall. Candice works on the neck. Candice with a forearm to the back. Candice with a running elbow into the corner followed by snap mare and leap frog neck snap for a near fall. Candice with shoulders in the corner. Candice sends Shotzi into the turnbuckles. Shotzi returns the favor and chops Candice. Candice with an inside cradle for a near fall. Candice with a clothesline for a near fall. Candice sends Shotzi into the turnbuckles and then connects with forearms in the corner. Candice misses a forearm in the corner and Shotzi goes for an enzuigiri. Candice with an elbow drop but Shotzi with an enzuigiri
Shotzi gets a near fall. Shotzi with an enzuigiri and back senton to the back against the ropes for a near fall. They go to the apron and Shotzi is almost sent into the ring post but bhocks it. Shotzi with a DDT onto the apron. Indi checks on Candice and Shotzi with a suicide dive onto Candice and Indi. Candice is sent back into the ring and Shotzi gets a near fall. Candice sends Shotzi into the turnbuckle and Candice with a drop kick to the back with Shotzi against the turnbuckles. Candice with a back heel kick for a near fall. Shotzi drops Candice on the top rope and Candice goes for the GargaNo Escape and locks it in. Shotzi with a rollup for a near fall.
Shotzi with a swinging facebuster and a running knee into the corner. Shotzi with a DDT out of the corner. Shotzi goes up top and Indi is stopped by Shotzi when she tries to interfere. Candice with a swinging neck breaker off the turnbuckles for the three count.
Winner: Candice LeRae
NXT Champion Finn Balor walks in the back.
The McMobile arrives and Oney Lorcan, Danny Burch, and Pete Dunne emerge and enter the building.
We go to commercial.
We are back and Finn Balor is in the ring.
Finn says on January 13, 2021, Finn Balor is still the NXT Champion. Let's talk about Kyle O'Reilly for a second. He says he will give Kyle credit. Kyle is great, but he is not on my level. Kyle stepped up and just like at Takeover 31, he got put down. This time, Kyle is the one eating his meals through a straw. I put this red X on my chest because I know I am THE target. Whoever wants to come after me needs to know that they stopped making the cloth I am cut from.
Pete Dunne's music plays and he makes his way to the stage with the NXT Tag Team Champions Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch.
Pete asks if you are going to stand there and ask what's next. You know what's next. I stood there and watched what you did to Kyle. I stood there knowiing that it would come down to me and you. You have been the poster boy for European wrestling because I haven't taken that title yet. Two weeks ago, you told me to get in line. I am not waiting any more.
Balor squares off with Dunne, Lorcan, and Burch. Dunne drops Balor's arm on the top rope and Balor kicks Lorcan and punches Burch. Balor kicks Burch and Dunne stops Balor and hits a double wrist lock divorce court. Dunne, Burch, and Lorcan attack Balor but Kyle O'Reilly comes out and goes after Burch, Lorcan, and Dunne. Strong and Cole come out as well.
Balor and the Undisputed Era stand in the ring and they stare each other down. Balor leaves the ring.
Johnny Gargano is in the back and he says what Candice did was beautiful. When I beat that freak Dexter Lumis, they are going to win the Dusty Classics. McKenzie asks about the Dusty Classic. Gargano says the match last week shouldn't have happened because he was wearing skinny jeans. Austin Theory shows up and gives Johnny an envelope from Dexter Lumis. We see a drawiing of Johnny crying and Austin laughs at it. Then Johnny shows Austin a drawing of Austin after getting hit in the Theories with the missile on Shotzi's tank and Austin tells Johnny to kick his ass.
We go to commercial.
We are back with Vic bringing up MSK and wondering who they are since they face Jake Atlas and Isaiah Scott tonight.
Zack Gibson says they made their debut in the Dusty Classic last year. They are looking for more than an invite to the final. They are sorry to the dweebs in the tournament who think they have a chance or the creatures in the crowd who are looking for an upset.
William Regal welcomes everyone to the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
Match Number Two: James Drake and Zack Gibson versus Matt Martel and Chase Parker in a First Round Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Match
Gibson and Martel start things off and Martel with a waist lock in the corner and a chop to the back. Martel gets into the ropes and has some words for Gibson. Parker tags in. Gibson with a kick to the midsection and Drake tags in. Drake with a side head lock and take down. Drake with a hip toss. Parker with a take down and he kicks Drake. Gibson pulls Drake to the floor. Gibson calms Drake down on the floor. Drake returns to the ring and tags Gibson in. They lock up and Gibson sends Parker to the mat and he punches Martel on the apron. Drake tags in and he kicks Parker and Gibson with a drop kick. Drake with a drop kick off Gibson's back to knock Martel to the floor.
Drake with a side head lock and punches. Drake with a bulldog. Drake with a punch and Parker goes to the floor. Gibson tags in and he hits a back breaker while Drake hits a pescado on Parker. Gibson sends Parker back into the ring and Gibson with a front face lock. Gibson with a single leg crab. Parker with a face wash to escape but Gibson with a kick. Drake tags in and hits an elbow in the corner. Gibson with a clothesline and Drake with a spinnig heel kick for a near fall. Gibson tags in and kicks Parker. Parker sends Gibson to the floor but Drake tags in and stops Parker from makiing the tag. Parker with a punch to Drake but he cannot get to Martel.
Martel tags in and he punches Drake. Martel punches Gibson on the apron and he continues the assault on Gibson and Drake. Martel with an Irish whip and overhead belly-to-belly suplex to Drake. Martel clotheslines Gibson off the apron. Drake with a punch but Martel with a clothesline. Parker tags in and they go for French Connection but Gibson protects Drake. Drake is sent into Gibson and Parker sends Drake into the air and Martel with a spear for a near fall.
Parker with a forearm to Gibson followed by a drop toe hold from Martel and an elbow to the back. Martel tags in and Gibson pulls Parker to the floor. Martel grabs Gibson and Drake with a drop kick to the back. Gibson tags in and they hit Ticket to Mayhem for the three count.
Winners: James Drake and Zack Gibson (advance to face winner of Johnny Gargano and Austin Theory versus KUSHIDA and Leon Ruff)
We take a look back at Rhea Ripley versus Raquel Gonzalez.
Raquel says what a difference a year makes. Rhea was on top of the world and then she ran into a brick wall. Rhea is just like 2020, a bad memory we are all trying to forget. I am looking ahead. I am looking at the NXT Women's Division. I am looking at Io Shirai. I am looking at the women's championship. There is a new baddest bitch in town and her name is Raquel Gonzalez.
We go to commercial.
We are back and Shotzi is asked about her loss. She says that is not the result she wanted but she has her focus on the Women's Dusty Classic. She knows Indi and Candice will be in it and she wants someone who will have her back. Ember Moon shows up and she says they are going to make history and they will go balls to the wall. Ember says she wants everyone to know that they are following Ember's Law and they will be putting their names on that trophy.
Match Number Three: Johnny Gargano (with Austin Theory) versus Dexter Lumis in a Non Title Match
Gargano shows Lumis the drawing and he asks Lumis if that is funny. Gargano rips the drawing and Lumis with a punch. Lumis with a Thesz Press and punches. Lumis misses a shoulder in the corner and Gargano rolls through ahd misses a kick. Lumis forces Gargano to the floor and Gargano misses a boot. Lumis with a back elbow and Gargano with a punch. Gargano with a kick and Lumis with an uppercut from the floor to send Gargano over the top rope into the ring. Gargano punches Lumis on the turnbuckles. Gargano goes for a superplex but Lumis blocks it.
Lumis with a head butt and Gargano struggles to stay on the turnbuckles. Lumis knocks Gargano to the mat. Lumis misses a swanton when Gargano moves.
