New Japan will hold its forty-ninth anniversary show in the Nippon Budokan on March 5, then the New Japan Cup will begin on March 6.

The tournament will culminate on March 21 in the Xebio Arena Sendai in Miyagi, which will be the first time New Japan has held a show in the venue.

The winner of the New Japan Cup earns the right to challenge for any championship in the company. EVIL won last year’s tournament after defeating Kazuchika Okada in the final.

New Japan’s full statement on the tournament can be read here.

Elsewhere, Hiroshi Tanahashi has revealed Nobuhiko Takada’s HUSTLE promotion made him a lucrative three-year offer in 2008 as part of the Ace’s HIGH interview series.
