The very beginning of gambling still remains unknown. However, it is more than sure that gambling existed in ancient societies. The first casino in the world
Italy was the first country to host a casino. In 1638, the first recorded real casino in the world opened its doors in Venice. The so-called Casino di Venezia still nowadays continues to welcome players from all over the world! In the same year, another known European casino was established in Venice, with the name Ridotto, which actually means private room. It remained open during the carnival for those who wanted to gamble and win.
History of the casinos in the USA
At the beginning of the 20th century, gambling was actually illegal in the US. Only in 1931, a new law made gambling lawful, and the first state where that law first was valid was Nevada. That’s how Las Vegas became the first city where casinos were established and since then became the capital of gambling and casinos. However, it is interesting to note that nowadays, Atlantic City is the city with the highest numbers of gambling in the US.

On the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, the English probably first created a “hazard” game, very similar to the modern game of dice. France was also among the pioneers of gambling as Napoleon was quite interested in a gambling game called “21”, which is no other than the famous and popular blackjack! France was also the homeland of roulette, which was popular among the people.

The word has Italian roots and means a building that has pleasure as its single purpose, used for any kind of fun activities, like dancing, music, and gambling. The word casino is also found in the German and the Spanish language, with the meaning of confusion.
Evolution of casinos
Following the ’90s and the quick development of the internet, the casino industry started growing, and it took advantage of the new technology. Therefore, nowadays, more and more people prefer online casinos to physical ones, as the first offer, first of all, the comfort of your place, bonus, offers and a wide variety of games.
