WHERE THE WWE THUNDERDOME IS HEADING....

By Mike Johnson on 2020-11-19 10:09:00

The WWE Thunderdome will move to Tampa's Tropicana Field starting with the Friday 12/11 episode of Friday Night Smackdown, the company officially announced today.

The baseball stadium is far larger than Orlando's Amyway Center, hosting a capacity of 42,735, so WWE will have even more leeway on a production level for Raw, Smackdown and PPV broadcasts.  One would also think that if they opt to do so, there is an opportunity with the venue to have socially distanced fans in attendance.  The venue's roof is non-retractable, so they could not utilize it as an open-air venue.

As PWInsider.com has reported, WWE looked at several potential sites outside of Florida, including Texas and Illinois, but Florida was easily the smartest location to stay in given the regulations locally and the proximity to where so many talents live.

The move should also strengthen rumors that Wrestlemania 37 will shift from Los Angeles to Tampa next year.
