Hayato Tamura made his second defense of the World Heavyweight Championship against Yasu Kubota in the opening match.

It is incredibly rare to see a Japanese promotion put a title defense in the opening match on the card. Tamura originally wanted to face Takafumi, who defeated Tamura in quick fashion on the opening night of the Fire Festival tournament, but he has a shoulder injury.

Kubota was selected as a replacement after he made headlines in Japan for confronting a man taking photos under a lady’s skirt at a train station. Yahoo published an article about the incident, which can be read here.

After the match, Hartley Jackson officially challenged Tamura to a World Heavyweight Championship match.

Tamura accepted the challenge, although no date was given for the match.

The second match on the card was contested by Dojo Chakuriki fighters under MMA rules. It went to a time limit draw after two rounds of three minutes.

RAICHO and SUGI both did flips off a building during the third match.

Quiet Storm and Yuji Hino won the Intercontinental Tag Team Championships in the main event.

• SANADA and Tetsuya Naito def. EVIL and Yujiro Takahashi

Kota Ibushi made an interesting comment about SANADA in his latest interview on New Japan’s website.

Ibushi suggested SANADA should leave Los Ingobernables de Japón and join New Japan’s main unit as just Seiya Sanada: “There are a lot of ways where we’ll similar, but with him I’m not sure which guy I’ll be facing. In my mind, this guy isn’t SANADA, he’s Seiya Sanada.

“I think that’s the guy we saw in the finals. The all caps SANADA was the one that made the entrance, but he went away when the bell rang. I still think he’d be a better fit in hontai.”

This is the not first time Ibushi has made this suggestion. He first mentioned it last year, and reaffirmed he still feels the same in the interview.

The full interview can be read here.

New Japan has also confirmed Toru Yano’s first KOPW 2020 defense against Zack Sabre Jr. at Power Struggle on November 7 will be a No Corner Pad match.
