Match 1: Sea Stars (Ashley Vox & Delmi Exo) vs AC Mack & Ashton Starr
Mack is clearly in a bad mood after losing his SUP title to AJ Gray last night. Delmi Exo gets in Ashton’s head by stealing and wearing his sparkly glasses. Starr with a hammerlock but Delmi rolls through to one of her own. Exo with a monkey flip and Vox tags in for the pin attempt. Mack and Vox square off and he’s off his game, getting rana’d and fish hooked. Exo with a shoulder block and Vox with a enziguri. Starr in against Exo but Mack immediately creates a distraction, allowing Starr to take control. Exo crawling for the tag and Starr mocking her struggle. Tandem flying knees and Mack get a two on Exo. Vox with the hot tag and she wipes out Starr on the apron and gets two on Mack off a flat liner. Sea Stars with a double stomp lungblower combo and Starr has to make the save. Fighting breaks out, Mack is tossed outside by Vox. Starr hits a backbreaker and bridging suplex for a near fall on Exo. Mack and Vox back in to hit some heavy stuff, Mack tossed again and the Sea Stars are just beating down Starr. Sea Stars with a tumbleweed senton on Ashtooon Starr and he stays down for three as Mack is forced to suffer the indignity of another loss.
Winners: Sea Stars
This was my first time seeing Ashton Starr. Mack and the Sea Stars are great. What a fun opening match!
Match 2: Dark Sheik vs Still Life with Apricots & Pears
West Coast vs East Coast right here. Still Life made their name in Chikara and other northeast indies. Dark Sheik is out of Hoodslam. Still Life wraps up Sheik in a dragon sleeper abdominal stretch. Sheik powers out and hits a spinning heel kick after a leapfrog split. Still Life with a missile drop kick to the gut for a two count. Still Life with an awesome looking bridging double arm lock but Dark Sheik untangles into a rocking wheelbarrow stretch and drop. Dark Sheik is done being technical and she is throwing strikes, stomps and knees. Inside out legdrop and tope. Vicious axe kick and Still Life is on the ropes. Still Life weathers the storm and they lock in a cloverleaf face lock. Sheik gets a version of a mutha lock and flips it into a high angle figure four. Still Life ain’t giving up. They dodge a yakuza kick and hit a spike bulldog for a near fall. Bridging leg lock but Sheik gets vicious again with a wheelbarrow cub stomp. Trading loud chops, Still Life’s chops are shaking Dark Sheik. Sheik with a head scissors drop and a spinning heel kick from the top. Two count. Dark Sheik is furious! Sheik is taunting and dropping bombs but Still Life won’t give up. Dark Sheik misses a leaping legdrop. Still Life fires up and hits a drop kick to the leg. Tree of woe! Senton to the knees in the tree. Indian death lock! Sheik wants to force it into a pin but she’s in deep. Dark Sheik can’t take it and taps out!
Winner: Still Life
I was impressed with Still Life when I saw them at Beyond a few weeks ago. This just solidified how much they’ve grown as a wrestler over the last couple of years. Dark Sheik was technically impressive and vicious when they needed to be. I really enjoyed this!
Match 3: Second Gear Crew (Manders, Levi Everett, Mance Warner & Matthew Justice) vs Billy Dixon, MV Young, Josh Wavra & O’Shay Edwards
Well this is gonna rule. Instantly this breaks out into a huge fight that spills right out into the crowd. Manders and Edwards battle in the ring, chops from the cowboy but a huge spinebuster from the Kaiju. This finally settles down into an actual tag match as Justice and Young trade shot, bar fight style. Wavra and Everett go toe to toe but Levi ends up just getting beat down but the entire opposing team. Battle to the outside, Warner is going for a dive? Nah, a bunch of eye pokes. Warner back in the ring gets speared through a door by Edwards. Everett with a dive as Justice isolates Dixon and hit an impales DDT for a near fall. Young takes Justice to suplex city and hits a shining wizard for two. Everett wipes out Yung with a headbutt spear. Wavra with a brainbuster and senton to Everett but the Amish warrior kicks out. Wavra pops up right into a lariat from Warner. Dixon with a stunner and a Lou Thez press from the second. Edwards looks to tag in against Manders....but he abandons Dixon and leaves the match. Second Gear Crew gang up on Dixon, hitting a flying headbutt and splash for the pin.
Winner: Second Gear Crew
Lovely chaos. Edwards, the backbone of the team, left them high and dry when he realized he had all the power. The balance swung immediately and that closed it out for SGC. This was good stuff. ??We get a break in the wrestling action with a fun drag performances. People are ringside run up to give tips. This is great. Tony Deppen is here to break it up. Deppen hates fun. Deppen is trying to shut it down, but one of the performers throws a chair at him. It didn’t do enough so Effy ran out to throw another and put an exclamation on the segment.
Match 4: Allie Kat vs Jamie Senegal (w/ Saint St. Clair)
Allie Kat really wants belly petting from Auntie Jamie. Jaime steps on her stomach instead. Allie goes into combat mode and sends Senegal to the corner with a head scissors. Senegal says she’ll pet Allie’s belly again and slaps her instead. Back and forth shots. Allie with the lari-Kat but that doesn’t end it. Saint St.Clair gets involved but Kat send him into Jaime. Senegal with a rolling springboard German with a bridge pin but Kat kicks out. Senegal hits a facebuster as Saint St. Clair gets a chair into position to make the impact worse. Kat is done.
Winner: Jaime Senegal
They double team Allie Kat after the bell for good measure. This was a fun battle as Allie kept working through her feelings about belly rubs and getting her fight on.
Match 5: The Twink Gauntlet
It’s random participants. Jimmy Lloyd is out first. Dyln McKay is out next. Lloyd with a superkick for a quick two. Moonsault for another. McKay with a springboard ddt and crucifix slam for a pin attempt. Lloyd wants a facebuster but McKay slips out and hits a poisonrana, and a shooting star off a short rope walk. Another shooting star and Lloyd barely kicks out. Lloyd dodges another dive and hits a tombstone for two. Butterfly piledriver and a styles clash for another two. McKay with a destroyer but Lloyd shrugs it off with a punt kick. McKay goes for a sliced bread but Lloyd picks it up into a sit out tombstone for the pin.
Jared Evans is out next. Evans takes advantage of a tired Lloyd with a couple of close twos but Lloyd hits a modified GTS. Lloyd goes for a German but gets lowblowed and curb stomped for the pin.
Logan Stunt is out next. He takes Evans down and chases him to the outside and beats him all the way. Evans trash talking and cuts Stunt off on a springboard and hits a dive for a near fall. Superkick and a curb stomp to Logan Stunt for a definitive elimination.
Parrow is out next. Parrow is a big big man. Parrow slowly gets into the ring and checks on Logan Stunt, using him for a rana and then hits a sit out powerbomb to take out Jared Evans.
The Runway is here. This is Tyler Klein and Calvin Couture. This is a handicapped match now? They try to double team him but Parrow knocks them down with ease. He gets a double choke. They like it. Chokeslam. They are done.
Tony Deppen is out with a pair of mimosas. He’s not in the match though. Juicy Jimmy is next up in the gauntlet. Jimmy has a rainbow dildo that he waggles at Parrow. Parrow is feeling less fun. So we have two big bulls testing each other’s power. Parrow takes a crotch grind in the corner. Juicy gets a kiss in but Parrow powerbombs him for the pin.
Molly McCoy is out next and they are throwing shots at Parrow until getting hit with a giant big boot. McCoy throws a chair and starts swinging metal to put the big man on the defensive. Hockey stick shots and they go up into the stands. Parrow throws McCoy into the cinderblock wall at the top of the arena. McCoy smashed into the apron and dragged into the ring. Parrow with a Michanoku driver and Molly McCoy is out.
Effy says that Parrow will not dominate this gauntlet. Effy says he is going to throw unlimited twinks into the match. The ring is filling with twinks and Parrow is eliminating everyone. A frustrated Effy has ONE more twink left.
Devon Monroe is the final twink in the gauntlet. Parrow throws a lariat and drops Devon. Devon is thrown from the ring into the twink brigade. Tong Deppen enters the gauntlet and hits a superkick. Devon Monroe firing shots and hits a modified ddt and a springboard jaw breaker but it’s NOT ENOUGH. Parrow goes for a chokeslam but Monroe flips it into a roll up for the three count.
Winner: Devon Monroe
Post match, all the twinks run him out of the ring. Devon Monroee is raised up as a hero of the twinks. This was a ridiculous amount of fun.
Match 6: Effy vs....Original opponent Priscilla Kelly had to bow out of the show yesterday and no one knows who the replacement will be. J-Rose says the replacement will be the ULTIMATE TWINK.
IT’S MARKO STUNT!
Stunt starts quick but Effy cuts him off with chair shots and stomps him out. Effy grabs a torch and candles. Stunt bites Effy’s dick. Effy laid out and Stunt grabs the torch and drips hot wax on his back. Marko pulls out a ball gag from the ref’s pocket and wraps it around Effy’s head with a spank. Stunt searching for plunder and pulls out a dildo on a cookie sheet. Effy tries to choke Stunt with it but Stunt makes it spray in Effy’s eyes. A living sex doll comes out to help Marko. Effy stomps out sex doll man while Marko throws chair and doors in the ring. Effy is still blinded and thinks the sex doll is Marko. Effy sets up the sex doll on a doortable but Marko gets back in to throw Effy from the top through the structure for the pin. You can also have such fun with the customized Doll Wives.
Winner: Marko Stunt
Hahahahahahahahahahahaha! My brain might have snapped a little during this. Like, this was just wonderfully dumb and connected huge with this crowd. Marko Stunt eats a TWINKie as part of his celebration. Yep, this was great.
Main Event: Cassandro vs Sonny Kiss
AEW is representing again as Sonny Kiss is taking on Mexico’s exotico legend, Cassandro, who arrives in a giant purple robe with confetti cannons. Collar and elbow tie up goes around the ring and to the floor. Springboard wrist lock reversal from Kiss and a drop kick to send Cassandro to the floor. Cassandro back in with a running arm drag and a rope walk rana. Cassandro with a dive to the concrete. He wants another but Kiss with a kick and a dive of her own. Cassandro with a body scissors but Kiss gets him into the tree of woe and hits a handspring elbow to the knees. Cassandro powders, Kiss gives chase but Cassandro trips Kiss face first into a chair. Cassandro prepping a chair shot but Kiss kicks and hits one of her own. Kiss with a straight jacket hold, Cassandro reverses into a pin attempt. Cassandro gets hung up in the corner and Sonny hits a rolling cartwheel kick to the midsection for a near fall. Kiss misses a split and Cassandro fires back with a top rope drop kick. Cassandro calls for the finish, a jumping sunset flip powerbomb pin. Sonny is down and out.
Winner: Cassandro
By its place on the card, this felt very similar to last night’s For the Culture main event. It was old guard vs new guard but this match was on point the whole time. Cassandro had his working boots on and Sonny Kiss made for a excellent dance partner. Good stuff. Effy puts over Cassandro’s hard work in helping make the LGBTQ+ wrestling community as vibrant as it clearly is today. Also, Effy reveals that brunch with return next year! What a good feeling end!
And that’s it for “Effy’s Big Gay Brunch”! This was a lot of fun on a Saturday morning. And to make comparisons again to For the Culture, this was another great example of why representation matters and why it’s important for the wrestling stage to be as inclusive as it can be. The best matches for my taste was Dark Sheik/Still Life and the 8-man but the main event was super hot, Effy/Marko was crazy and the everything around it was pretty enjoyable as well. If your sensibilities are okay with seeing a feww adult novelty toys (you know, just like....there), this was a fun watch and I look forward to next year’s edition.
Next up is Glory Pro’s “Are Ya Wrestling, Son?” at 3pm. Until then...
