A Block Tournament Matches:

2. Minoru Suzuki vs. Yujiro Takahashi.

El Desperado was at ringside doing commentary.   Suzuki takes the match to the floor immediately.  Takahashi snapmared Suzuki and hit a running dropkick to his face.   He threw Suzuki in the ring and began to slap him.  This set off Suzuki as he threw Takahashi out of the ring, whipped him into a guardrail and smashed him with a chair.  Suzuki choked out Takahashi with electrical wires.  Takahashi tried to fight back with slaps and elbows.  Suzuki dropped him with one measured elbow to his jaw.   Suzuki slaps on a sleeper and chokes out Takahashi.  Suzuki attempts a pin and gets a two count.  Takahashi blocks a punt kick and hits Suzuki in the head with another running dropkick. Takahashi was wobbly from the sleeperhold.  Suzuki hooks him in a front face lock, screaming as he clamped it tighter.  Takahashi reversed it into a Fisherman Buster.  Two count.  Suzuki came back with kicks to the face and back of the head.  Takahashi screamed and both men traded elbows strikes.  Takahashi attempted Miami Shine but Suzuki applied another sleeperhold. Takahashi rocked Suzuki with an elbow and a side kick to the head.   Takahashi went for Pimp Juice but Suzuki grabbed him in a head and arm takedown and transitioned back into a sleeperhold.  Suzuki hit a Gotch Piledriver and got the pin.  Good match!  Takahashi looked solid even in a loss.   He took it to Suzuki, but The King looked unstoppable.   Suzuki left the ring quickly with a wild look in his eye.  People at ringside scattered when he approached.  Suzuki looks to be on a roll in this G1 Tournament.

3.  Kota Ibushi vs. Jeff Cobb

A feeling out process at the beginning of the match.  Ibushi attempting leg strikes.  Cobb attempting to ground his opponent on the mat.  Cobb hits a chop in the chest.  Ibushi attacks with leg strikes and elbows.  The pace quickens with Ibushi's offense.  Cobb slows it down with a dropkick to Ibushi's face.  Cobb began using his power with an over-the-head belly to belly suplex.  Ibushi hits a Frankensteiner and Cobb rolls to the outside.   Ibushi hits a plancha.   Ibushi avoids a charging Cobb and nails a double stomp to the back of the head.  Cobb blocks an Ibushi kick and plants him with a back suplex.  Cobb hits a running European Uppercut in the corner.  Ibushi slumps down.  Cobb grabs his ankles.  He pulls Ibushi off the mat, catches him in an Athletic Plex.   Wow, Cobb has crazy strength!   The crowd gasped and applauded this move.  Cobb only gets a two count.  Both men start throwing kicks and strikes.   Cobb lays out Ibushi with a lariat.  Cobb hits the Bam-Bam's (Triple rolling gutwrench).  On the third rotation, he lifted Ibushi from his grip around his waist, to a powerbomb position, and onto his back in a fireman's carry position.  Cobb used his power to spin Ibushi into a modified F5.  Insane power by Cobb!  Ibushi is big muscular dude and Cobb was throwing him around like Junior.   Cobb only gets a two count.   Cobb calls for a Tour of the Islands.   Ibushi blocks it.  Cobb grabs him into another fireman's carry position.  Ibushi wiggles out and hits a wicked kick to Cobb's ear.  Cobb blocks a Kamagoye.  Ibushi slips out of a Tour of the Islands.  A knee strike by Ibushi allows him to hit a Kamagoye.   Ibushi pins Cobb earning 2 points.

Wow!   This match was great!   Neither man looked weak in this match.  Ibushi quietly thanked Cobb and shook his hand while they were lying on the mat.  Must-see match!

4. Kazuchika Okada vs. Taichi

Taichi attacks Okada when he was taking off his entrance gear.  Okada's lower back is taped up after his prior match with Jay White.   Match goes to the floor.  Taichi attacks with chairs and the guardrail.   El Desperado attempts to leave the commentary area to help his stablemate, but the referee stops him which allows Taichi to break a chair on Okada's back.  Taichi continues a methodical attack on Okada's lower back.  Okada fights back with a DDT and goes quickly for the Money Clip.   Taichi blocks it and Okada dropkicks him out of the ring.  Okada follows and Taichi attacks his lower back with the guardrail.  Okada hits a DDT on the ringside mat.  The back in the ring and Okada attempts a missle dropkick from the top rope, but Taichi sidesteps it.  Taichi hits a spinning backbreaker on Okada and locks in a single leg Boston Crab.  Taichi stomps on the back of Okada's head while he attempts to reach the ropes.  Taichi tries for a Last Ride but Okada blocks it and turns it into a neckbreaker.  Taichi counters with kicks to Okada's head.  Okada hits another dropkick and applies the Money Clip.  Taichi quickly reverses it into a back suplex right on Okada's neck.  Okada is stunned.  Taichi attempts another Last Ride but Okada turns it into a tombstone.  Okada applies the Money Clip.  Taichi fights out of the Money Clip and Okada hits a lariat.  The camera zooms in on Okada's hand grasping Taichi's wrist, teasing the return of the Rainmaker.  Okada is about to hit it, when Taichi pulls the referee and Okada stops.  Taichi kicks Okada below the belt and spins him into the Gedo Clutch.  Close two count.  Taichi hits a jumping high kick.  After a bunch of reversals of moves, Taichi nails an Axe Bomber.   Taichi goes for Black Mephisto but Okada reverses out and applies the Money Clip.  Taichi quickly rolls out of the move.  Okada reapplies the Money Clip.   Taichi was reaching for the ropes.  Okada hit a neckbreaker and slapped on the Money Clip again.   Taichi went limp.  The referee checked on Taichi and he called for the match to stop.   Okada wins!

Another great match!   Okada and Taichi know each other so well that it makes for a smooth match.  El Desperado raced to help his fallen stablemate back to the dressing room.  The tease of the Rainmaker clothesline is cool.  When Okada finally hits it, the crowd will pop huge.

5. Will Ospreay vs. Jay White with Gedo.

White does his usual stalling at the start of the match.  They start brawling.  White suplexes Ospreay out of the ring.  Ospreay gets thrown into the guardrail.   White locks on a single leg crab and switches into a STF.  Ospreay gets to the ropes.  White grounds Ospreay with a chinlock.  Match picks up speed.  Too much to call here.  Gedo distracts Ospreay on the ring apron.  White takes advantage and hits a DDT.  Ospreay did a springboard of the top rope which White turned into a Facebuster.  White quickly followed up with a deadlift german suplex.  Ospreay made a comeback with is aerial moves.  White planted Ospreay with a uranagi.  White hit a Kiwi Krusher for a two count.  Ospreay got out of a Bladerunner and nailed a sit down power bomb.  Ospreay hit an Oscutter for a two count.   White looked out of it.  Ospreay went for Stormbreaker but White tripped up the referee.  Gedo entered the ring and caught an elbow from Ospreay.  Ospreay blocked a low blow from White and kicked him in the face.  After bunch of reversals, Ospreay hit the Hidden Blade and Stormbreaker for the pinfall win.

Good match.  i think it could have been better.

Quick commentary:  Ospreay was selling the injured leg at times during the match, but was able to hit a lot of his aerial moves.  This took me out of the match for a bit.  If he is selling a hurt leg, then he should not be able to do those aerial moves or at least Ospreay should have changed up his offense.  They made it a point to say Ospreay was moving from the Junior Division to Heavyweight.  If that is true, Ospreay should not be relying so much on Junior-based aerial moves.   Jay White is a dangerous wrestler, but Ospreay's lack of selling made White look weak.  In the Okada vs. Taichi match, Okada was selling his back and Taichi was selling his neck.   This made sense when Okada was avoided the Last Ride and Taichi was avoiding the Rainmaker.  If this match opened the show, I may not have noticed it as much.  Following Cobb/Ibushi and Okada/Taichi, the lacking of selling stands out to me and it hurt the match.

I am leaving my soap box now.

6.  Tomohiro Ishii vs. Shingo Takagi

Both men started brawling.  Lots of strikes, power moves, and trash talk.  Both men were dangerously close in crushing each other's throats with chops.  Takagi hit a Noshigami, a deadlift suplex and sliding lariat.  Ishii kicks out at two.  They trade lariats until both fall in the middle of the ring exhausted.  Ishii hit a super plex for a two count.  Takagi tried for Made in Japan, but Ishii reversed out.  Takagi hit a DDT, then got Made in Japan.  Ishii kicked out at two.  Takagi hit a lariat.  Two count.  Takagi hit a few lariats.  Ishii countered with two back suplexes.  More brawling.  Ishii hits a powerbomb for a two count.  Ishii with a lariat for a two count.  Ishii came off the ropes, Takagi caught him with a pop up into a Death Valley Driver.  Ishii with a Dragon Suplex and a lariat.  Takagi kicks out at one.  The crowd is applauding both men.  Ishii hits a Sliding Lariat and gets at two count.  Ishii attempts a brain buster.  Takagi kicks out.   Ishii misses a jumping high kick.  Takagi hits a Sliding Lariat to the back of Ishii's head.  Brutal!   Both men trade head butts and elbows.  Ishii gets hung between the ropes.  Takagi hits a draping GTR.  Takagi unloads a Pumping Bomber running at full speed.  Ishii kicks out at two.  Wow!   Takagi floors Ishii with a DDT.  After another lariat, Takagi goes for Last of the Dragon, but Ishii reverses into a DDT.  Ishii hits a jumping high kick and a lariat.  Takagi kicks out at two.  Ishii hits a Brainbuster.   Ishii gets the pinfall win and his first points in the G1!

Awesome match!   Both men wanted the fight to continue, still punching and headbutting each other.  Yet both were exhausted.  The young lions broke them up to get them to the locker room.
