WHAT SHOULD GO DOWN THIS SUNDAY: THE WWE CLASH OF CHAMPIONS: GOLD RUSH TIP SHEET

By Dave Scherer, Mike Johnson & Richard Trionfo on 2020-09-26 01:06:00

WWE presents Clash Of Champions on Sunday night.  Here is our take on what will go down at the show.

Drew McIntyre vs. Randy Orton for the WWE Championship.

Dave: This is the only thing I am really looking forward to on the show.  Randy is so good in his role and a loss won't hurt him at all.  This is a nothing PPV and the Title should not change here.  Drew Mac should retain here and continue being built up as the man.

Mike:  I feel like they have JUST finally started building around Drew.  He needs to retain here.  This will likely be the best thing on the show from an in-ring standpoint.

Richard:  This will probably be the Raw brand match for a Hell in a Cell match at Hell in a Cell.  I expect these men to beat the hell out of each other for 15 to 18 minutes.  I also think Drew will retain, but what if Randy wins the title and Drew needs to go to a 'dark place' to get the title back next month.  Will Keith be the ambulance driver?

Roman Reigns vs. Jey Uso for the Universal Title.

Dave: This is where Reigns should go savage heel and destroy his cousin.  I have liked the work Jey has put in as a single and I think they can build on it, but not here, not now.

Mike:  This needs to be the moment where we see Reigns will stop at nothing to keep his title, breaking his family's heart in the process.  This should be a lot of fun as a match but everyone knows who is winning here.

Richard:  Jey and Roman both had good promos on Smackdown and while I don't think Roman is going to lose on Sunday, I would rather see Jey get in a few chances before losing.  Do we see any family members come to the ring to stop Roman from destroying Jey?

Asuka vs. Zelina Vega for the Raw Women's Title.

Dave: I love Zelina.  She's awesome.  But you don't go from being a manager to beating the champion in a couple of weeks in Vince's world, especially a champ like Asuka.  Asuka retains.

Mike: The second this was shifted to the Kickoff Show, I knew that meant Asuka wipes out Vega in rapid-fire fashion.

Richard:  I agree with Dave about this match and if Asuka has trouble with Zelina, what does it say about the other women in the division?  When do we get Shayna vs Asuka or a Retributionette?

Bayley vs. Nikki Cross for the Smackdown Women's Title.

Dave: I would totally flip the Title here after Sasha comes down and costs Bayley the belt proving that she is "nothing without her".  Then Nikki and Sister Alexagail can fight over the Title.

Mike: I expect the opposite.  I suspect Banks gets involved but gets Nikki DQ'd.

Richard:  This match will be different than the other 5022 times they wrestled because Sasha isn't there.  I don't think so.  Bayley wins and this is where Sasha should have returned to set up their match at Hell in a Cell.

Jeff Hardy vs. AJ Styles vs. Sami Zayn for the Intercontinental Title.

Dave: Sami never lost the belt but I still wouldn't put it on him.  Jeff has been doing good work but something tells me it goes back to AJ.

Mike: I am with Dave here.  I expect Zayn is here to get pinned so AJ and Jeff can continue on.  Styles new champ.

Richard:  Since we saw these three wrestle on Smackdown TWO DAYS BEFORE THE PAY PER VIEW, why do we need this match (other than it was a standard Triple Threat Match).  I would have Jeff retain, but after doing the "Jeff Hardy WTF" moment where he had the match won but does something to pop the ThunderDome.

The Street Profits vs. Andrade & Angel Garza for the Raw Tag Team Titles.

Dave: Is this the 1000th time we have seen this match?  The challengers have had their shot and I get that they are trying to say that they are better without Vega but a win here would fall flat to me.  They had plenty of chances and failed.  I would have the champs retain.

Mike: I expect a title change here, since as we apparently learned on Raw, the problem all along was Zelina Vega!

Richard:  I thought Andrade and Angel hated each other?  What other teams are there on Raw and haven't we seen the 'Partners hate each other' thing done 500 times already this year?  Are the Hurt Business or Retribution going to challenge next?  I would keep the titles on the Street Profits.

Cesaro & Nakamura vs. Lucha House Party.

Dave: There is no world where Lucha House Party should win.  None.

Mike: This should be good in the ring.  Champs retain.

Richard:  I would have had Metalik get hurt before the match so Kalisto and Dorado have to be the team . . . and they hate each other (never seen that before).  Cesaro and Nakamura are a great team and that is why I think they might lose.

Bobby Lashley vs. Apollo Crews for United States Title.

Dave: Unless they have Slapnutz and T-Bag come out and attack Lashley, he should retain here.  The company is finally booking him like the monster that he is and the time is not right to change that now.

Mike: We have been given no reason to care about this feud continuing on.  Lashley should retain.

Richard:  Why didn't they set up a match between Lashley and a member of Retribution instead of rehashing Lashley/Crews again?  Lashley retains, but if Retribution shows up, maybe we get a new champ?

Shayna Bazler & Nia Jax vs. The Riott Squad for the Women's Tag Team Titles.

Dave: Much like many of the matches on this show, it's way too soon to take the Titles off of the champs.  Part of the problem with doing a PPV like this, with every belt on the line, is that we get matches where it would make no sense to do a Title change and that makes the matches less interesting.

Mike: I am with Dave here.  I suspect we'll see Riott and Morgan get some hope spots in but in the end, we'll see Baszler and Jax retain.

Richard:  I like that the Riott Squad gets this chance, but I need something to happen to let Nia give Lana a Samoan Drop through the announce table.  Shayna and Nia retain, and then they can face the Female Members of Retribution.
