Toonstar Partners With Wrestlers + Lisa Ann To Launch Animated Series Across Social Media
“Big LG” Doc Gallows, “Machine Gun” Karl Anderson, Rocky Romero, nZo (fka Enzo Amore) and Lisa Ann partnered with nextgen animation studio Toonstar to produce a first of its kind multi-platform animated series that will be distributed across social media. The Gimmicks is a series that is best described as Southpark meets WWE. Three washed up wrestlers court a controversial rookie into their crew to regain relevance and make it back to the main event, all the while attempting to elude the overly-amped up CEO of Ultra-Unsafe Wrestling Entertainment.
Leveraging Toonstar’s ultra fast + low cost production tech capabilities, they will tie in current events and integrate timely cameos into the show. (Currently signed on for cameos are comedian Tony Hinchcliffe). “We’re parodying the world of wrestling, while also paying homage to the hard work that goes into this art form,” said Toonstar CEO, John Attanasio. “Direct to consumer combined with superior production capabilities, this is the future of entertainment.”
Gallows, Anderson and Romero host the incredibly successful #worstpodcastever, Talk’n Shop. In a joint statement, the guys said that they are “excited to join forces with the folks at Toonstar to launch The Gimmicks, and offer this unique, comedic and unfiltered inside-look at wrestling. It’s something you have never seen before.” The sequel to their pay-per-view event Talk’n Shop a-Mania 2 is coming this November and will feature part of The Gimmicks Season 1 finale.
The Gimmicks also features Lisa Ann, famed adult film star known for her satirical take on Sarah Palin. Lisa Ann is also the author of her 2015 book The Life and is currently busy conquering the world of fantasy sports on SiriusXM’s Fantasy Sports Radio as well as her own podcast The Lisa Ann Experience. nZo, too, is currently developing a podcast alongside friend and business partner, Christian Pascal of Hunt & Fish Club.
Backed by heavy-weight investors Founders Fund, Snapchat, GCVR (Greycroft seed fund) and Baron Davis Enterprises, Toonstar’s proprietary tech platform makes animation accessible by drastically cutting costs and turning around content at the speed of social.
